Gunfire, a crash and an explosion on The Strip early this morning leaves three dead.

Multiple new sources are reporting that occupants of a Range Rover shot at a Maserati around 4:30 a.m. this morning. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that "the Maserati then crashed into a taxi, which exploded." Three died including "two people in the taxi and the driver of the Maserati." Another occupant of the Maserati was injured. The gunman is at large.

The incident was described, originally, as a "rolling gun battle," but authorities now report that gunfire only came from the Range Rover. This all happened at Flamingo and Las Vegas Boulevard. As of this writing, that intersection and a nearby stretch of the Strip was still blocked to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic. @BruceNV on Twitter tells us that the closure runs all the way up to Harmon.

The Las Vegas Sun reports that authorities are now looking for a black Range Rover with "dark tinted windows and black rims" and "paper dealer plates." The newspaper reports that the taxi was "affiliated with the Desert Cab company."

We'll update this story as more details come to light.

10:07 a.m. PST: KLAS-TV, the local CBS affiliate, is reporting that the shooting and explosion caused a chain reaction collision involving six vehicles that injured an additional two three people.

12.52 p.m. PST: The Strip between Flamingo and Harmon is still closed. Planet Hollywood has cancelled a special arrival event marking the start of CeeLo Green's residency that had been scheduled for its front steps tonight. We're also told by KLAS that Paris has closed its main Las Vegas Boulevard entrance, the drive and the doors. Enter via the sportsbook or the rear if you're headed that way.

1 p.m. PST: The RJ reports that the victims inside the cab were "burned beyond recognition." Newspaper states that the identities of dead likely not to be released until Friday.

2:32 p.m. PST: At a just concluded press conference, Las Vegas police say the incident started as a verbal altercation in Aria's valet. They are still looking for the black Range Rover and are calling occupants "armed and dangerous."

4:21 p.m. PST: KLAS-TV reports that the driver of the Maserati was Kenny Clutch, an "aspiring rapper."

5:06 p.m. PST: KTNV-TV is identifying the deceased cab driver as 62-year-old Michael Bolden.

2/22, 11:49 a.m. PST: Authorities still search for the missing black Range Rover and its occupants at this hour. The Strip has since reopened to vehicle and foot traffic.

2.25, 11:10 a.m. PST: Las Vegas police have identified the suspect in this deadly shooting and tracked down his Range Rover, however the man himself remains on the run at this hour.

Closure

Reports expect that area to be closed until sundown.

The dealer plates are reportedly out of state.

Long day...

Take a wild guess where I am right now...  Utter craziness...

Horrible

This is just awful. Those poor people in the taxi...

Pedestrian volume down.

Was working at our casino concierge booth today. Pedestrian traffic way down until about noon.

To go north from the Planet Hollywood, per an officer on the street, one had to go through Paris, into Bally's, exit the  north door, turn east on Flamingo, go north on Audrey, and then go through the  Flamingo.

Hell's kitchen

Doesn't Gordon Ramsay drive a black Range Rover...?

Seriously though, it sounds like a black-on-black drug related 'dissing' incident.

Sterotypical? Yes, but that's because it has a solid basis in reality.

I feel sorry for the poor innocents caught up in this 'Boyz n the Hood' bollocks.

Big Pimpin'

So...  I am hearing through the underworld grapevine that Cherry was a HORRIBLE rapper, and that it wasn't his day job that allowed him to cruise around in a Maserati... It was the ladies of the night that he had working for him.  Basically the pimps take their earnings and turn it into drug money to increase their profits... Figure the rest out.
