Watch the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show and just wish it had more action? Here’s your tip for the best free event in town this weekend. On Friday and Saturday at the Rio, the Purina Pro Plan Incredible Dog Challenge will feature 70 pooches jumping, diving and weaving and competing their hearts out. And, it’s free.

The barking athletes will compete in six categories to prove their worth as top dog. Competition challenges include “agility, frisbee, diving dock dogs, Jack Russell hurdle racing, flyball and dual weave course racing.” We’d really wish they include the amazing art of sheep herding, but that’s us. Most of the dogs have been invited to show off their explicit skills and, with only two other national events this year, it all sounds prestigious.

If you think your dog has what it takes, they’ll be allowing locals to compete in the frisbee and diving dog category. And, since they’ll be taping this show for TV, it’s just like American Idol for canines. Here's some official video from last year's finals. Phoebe, the celebrity world record holder diving dog, is a formidable opponent. Be warned, Las Vegas.

The competition takes place on the east side parking lot of The Rio on Friday, March 1 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, March 2 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. And, we feel as if we should mention the price for witnessing the finest in frisbee retrieving one more time -- free.
