Is McD's Next For A Do-Over at the D?

Where: 301 Fremont Street [map], 89101

For the general public, there's one part of the D's transformation that still screams WTF (standing for, in this case, what the Fitz). It's that shabby vintage McD's off its main Fremont Street Experience entrance. (For guests, there's also those halls and that pool, at least for now.)

In downtown Vegas, (just about) everything old is new again at our choice for best new reopening of 2012. But, we've wondered -- will the D's McD's be a part of its expansive remodel? Perhaps, at least a revamp into a Metro McDonald's?

We finally asked the D what was up with that and, sadly, were informed that "there are no plans to renovate" McD's. Here's to hoping they'll eventually switch it out with something else, though, as the hotel-casino has now done with every other D-ining option on-site.

Be Gone, Evil Presence!

Having witnessed the riff-raff that staggers in the McDonalds at Plaza's food court (most likely from the adjacent bus station) and the fistfights, cussing and thrown food that ensues, I can't imagine that having a McD right at the entrance is doing anything to improve The D's image or client base.  Too bad it can't move out altogether and be replaced with a casino-owned operation like the cafe of Binion's.  You know, one that serves authentic edible fast food.....

Can I just eat my McMuffin??

Yeah, the McD's at the D can be a little tough to take.

I stopped in for a quick breakfast one morning last year (staying at the GNug) and it was a challenge to get my order.  The employees on duty did not seem to be very, shall we say, motivated.

I sat in a corner booth to enjoy my Egg McMuffin and Review-Journal, and it wasn't TWO minutes before some bum stumbled over, attempting to show me his hospital ID bracelet and mumbling like a fool.

I stood up and told him, in no uncertain terms, that I was enjoying my breakfast and to leave me the hell alone.  I had to repeat myself, but he finally shuffled away.

That being said, I very much enjoy Fremont Street.  One just has to keep an eye open and be careful.

Maybe A Side Door?

They could always shut the Casino Entrance to McD and have an outside door only.

I have to admit there have been a few times after losing a few hundred bucks at VP and only gaining 30 or 40 bucks in drinks and more player points...

I have headed to McDs for a sack of food from the cheap menu and headed for my room.
Not sure I care to eat there...

I tend to get up real early and the crowd there is very interesting at 5am also...

McD's at the Plaza is downright scary !!!
