Get Your Vitamin D Fix This Weekend at The Rio's Pools

Where: 3700 W. Flamingo Road [map], 89103
June 26, 2009 at 8:02 PM | by globetrotting gourmet | 0 Comments

Although its location isn’t in the thick of the Strip action, we’ve always had a soft spot for Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino. Especially this summer, when the waterfront scene – both beach and pool – has been hopping.

Sun worshippers have two options for getting wet and wild. Hotel guests and locals can get horizontal at VooDoo Beach, a faux sandy beach that surrounds a lagoon with waterfalls and Jacuzzis. It’s open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and access is free. There’s also a deck with lounge chairs, poolside cabanas for rent and a snack bar.

Once a month, VooDoo Beach hosts a free poolside concert for its 18+ guests. Upcoming acts include Nine Days, The Ataris, Presidents of the United States and Marcy’s Playground. The vibe is more relaxed (read: more family-oriented) than some of the Strip pool scenes and pretentiousness is kept to a minimum.

If you simply want sun and a fun afternoon scene, but don’t want to throw down a lot of green, we recommend VooDoo Beach.

Jeremy Shockey Gets Knocked Out by Rehab at the Hard Rock

May 26, 2009 at 1:55 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Rehab at the Hard Rock, the hotel's seasonal Sunday pool party, has a tongue-in-cheek name but the truth is, many folks partying here might actually be in need of the real rehab.

New Orleans Saints football star Jeremy Shockey collapsed at the pool yesterday, due to "dehydration." He was taken out of the area on a stretcher and then to the hospital. His reps say he will be "fine." Even more embarrassing than a big man falling down in public, the entire thing was caught on tape. Hit up TMZ for all the photos and video. And you'll notice that not even Jeremy Shockey going down can stop the party from partying on.

Meanwhile, over at Encore an audience member at Whoopi Goldberg's show inside the Danny Gans Theater collapsed due to a seizure, forcing Whoopi to shut the show down early so the man could be properly assisted. What happens in Vegas during a holiday weekend, might be too much for some to take.

The Azure Pool at the Palazzo Now Open for Cocktails and SPF Applications

Where: 3327 Las Vegas Boulevard South [map], 89109
May 18, 2009 at 7:31 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

The Venetian's Tao Beach is one of Vegas' ultimate party pools but not everyone want their adult pool to be such a scene. Fortunately, the Venetian's neighboring tower The Palazzo, now has its own sexy adult pool to call its own. The hotel just opened its Azure Pool this past weekend.

Bringing the radiance of a Mediterranean resort to The Palazzo, Azure is a little bit of Capri in Las Vegas. While relaxing on daybeds enveloped by verdant surroundings, guests enjoy Champagne, frozen grapes, ice towels, poolside cabana massages, and Evian water mistings. Magnum bottle service, fresh fruit purees, Bellini's, and frozen beverages will also be available.

And sunning by the pool can be sexy and healthy at the same time because Azure will offer guests complimentary SPF applications upon request. Further spa treatments will be offered by the hotel's Canyon Ranch Spa and Wolfgang Puck's restaurant will provide a small bites menu for guests.

However, the pool area won't be a zone-out zen spot all the time. On Saturdays, the pool will host Absolut Vodka Saturdays, serving cocktails made with the vodka brand. Also, fashion shows featuring the latest trends from stores inside The Shoppes at the Palazzo will be held twice a day on Saturdays. It's actually quite brilliant--serve guests vodka and convince them of how pretty they will look in the latest fashions which can be bought just a few feet away from the pool.

Azure is open from 11am to 6pm for folks over the age of 21 and the "membership fee" is a daily fee of $20.

Caesars Garden of the Gods Pool Area Now Half-Open

Where: 3570 Las Vegas Blvd S [map], 89109

Major renovations have been afoot at Caesars since last fall. The big question is how on track are those renovations and how does the current state of construction effect your ability to bask in the sun at the Caesar's pool?

The Octavius Tower looks complete from the outside, however the project has been put on hold due to the "soft economy." But those in the know claim that the tower's interior can be made fully operational in "under three months", thus once tourists return to Vegas en mass the tower should open quickly.

The Sapphire Pool at The Rio is Stripper-Friendly

Where: 3700 W. Flamingo Rd [map], 89109
May 5, 2009 at 6:03 PM | by Stephanie Sims | 0 Comments

It’s not hard to catch a stripper outside her natural habitat in Vegas. After all, it’s a legitimate and fruitful career in Sin City, so the place is chock-full of them. Catching them outside the strip club, topless, that’s another ballgame.

But The Rio has made that easier for everyone. The Sapphire Pool, a Brazilian-style adult pool experience, was created in partnership with the new gentlemen's club in town, Sapphire club. So essentially, the Rio has combined a strip club with a pool. And Sapphire strippers drink for free here.

Caesars to Open Additions to Its 'Pool Oasis' This Summer

Where: 3570 Las Vegas Boulevard South [map], 89109
April 23, 2009 at 6:07 PM | by jaymi | 0 Comments

When Harrah’s Entertainment, parent company of Caesars Palace, announced the hotel’s newest expansion almost two years ago, the plan was to enlarge and renovate the hotel to the tune of $1 billion, the centerpiece of which was to be the new, 665-room Octavius Tower.

Of course, this was back when $1 billion represented a somewhat reasonable figure for a stalwart Las Vegas hotel looking to capture an even greater portion of the enormous Vegas tourism cache—and not the symbolic figure for bank bailouts and scandalous Wall Street ponzi schemes.

Needless to say given the current economic climate, expansion plans have been scaled waaaay back (hope to see you soon, Octavius Tower). But lest we forget those savvy folks at Harrah’s know a thing or two about where there bread is buttered, they went ahead with the expansion of their Garden of the Gods Pool Oasis.

The 411 on MGM's Wet Republic Pool Party

Where: 3799 Las Vegas Boulevard South [map], 89109

With nouvelle-Vegas institutions like Ditch Fridays at Palms and Rehab at the Hard Rock coming on the scene in the last couple of years, it’s no surprise that someone set out to own the poolside party scene with a dedicated, “daylife” atmosphere. After all, what nightclub-hopping Vegas vacationer doesn’t want to sleep off their hangover by baking in the hot, desert sun while dehydrating further courtesy of a frosty pitcher of watermelon mojitos? It’s an obvious win-win for all.

The Flamingo's GO Pool is for Adults Only

Where: 3555 Las Vegas Blvd. S. [map], 89109
April 9, 2009 at 1:17 PM | by Stephanie Sims | 0 Comments

We already gave you a look inside the renovated high-tech GO Rooms inside The Flamingo Las Vegas. And now let us guide you along the Flamingo's pool scene.

Lots of Vegas pools advertise their pools as "exotic experiences". But if you’re sharing the pool with actual exotic animals, that takes your poolside experience up a notch. At the Flamingo’s 15-acre GO Pool, you might see flamingos and silver pheasants frolicking about the picturesque habitat. The waterfalls, fountains and palm trees that make up the landscape around the pool are pretty. But so are the people.
