There's a lot of sh*t that happens in Vegas and not all of it can make it on our site. So, every Friday, we take note of some of the smaller announcements and happenings around town that may be of interest, too. Here's the rundown for the week of January 19:
○Dirk Arthur will bring even more Wild Illusions to Riviera beginning February 21. That's when matinee performances of his magically cheesetastic production will be added. Look for 4 p.m. shows to take place Saturday and Sunday. Tickets begin at $40. Children must be at least five years old to attend and anyone under 15 will need to be with an adult. Call 800.634.3420 to purchase. The show also runs at 7 p.m. Saturday through Thursday.

An empty poker room, a soon to be closing poker room, and an electronic poker room highlight this look at what's currently going on in the Las Vegas poker landscape. Shuffle up and deal!
The poker situation at Silverton has pretty much been in limbo for the past two years. The off-Strip property's room closed back in early 2012 only to pop back up near the end of 2012 as part of Cantor Gaming's new sports book. Word was the cards would start flying once the sports book opened, but that day came and went and the poker room has yet to see any action. A recent visit to Silverton confirmed that, yes, the five-table poker room is still there in all of its painfully bright red glory, but it still is not open for business.

Get your motor running, because NASCAR rolls back into the Las Vegas Motor Speedway March 6-9 for a weekend full of racing, parties, giveaways, and, of course, drink specials. Tickets for the main event, the Kobalt 400, start at $49 and will also get you a few perks around town (see below).
But, ticket or no ticket, there will definitely be enough happening to keep you busy. We've compiled a list of special events. Be sure to check back, though, as we will update it as more are announced.
South Point will host the NASCAR Sprint Cup haulers in advance of the NASCAR Parade which will leave the resort at 5:30 p.m. this Wednesday, March 5 before making its way down Las Vegas Boulevard. The parade is free and open to the public. In addition, Brendan Gaughan, driver of the South Point Chevy #62 for Richard Childress Racing, and fellow NASCAR drivers Ryan Newman, Brian Scott and Ty Dillon will take over South Point for a special autograph signing March 6 from 5 to 6 p.m. A $80,000 Virtual NASCAR Racing giveaway will also take place at the resort March 6-9. Sign up for a players club card in order to take part.

Large it's not, but unexpected it is.
Aliante's new spa, Re:lax, may not be a destination (ok, it's definitely not a destination), but it shouldn't be discounted, either. A weekend tour had this writer trading ho hum expectations for pleasantly surprised sentiments.
While small in size, it was apparent that care was taken with the spa's overall feel. Culled from a portion of the hotel tower, it doesn't seem as if you're in a space that used to be part of a hotel tower. A feeling that this writer has, unfortunately, experienced in other Vegas spas where the aesthetic is so
cheap poor that it's hard to get past it.

In January, the way, way off Strip Aliante Hotel and Casino shared with us the strong possibility that a spa was on the way. Now, eight months later, it's official. Guests will be able to Re:lax at Aliante this fall.
The full-service spa will offer all the rejuvenating treatments that some of us know well and enjoy often. Services will range from massages and facials to nail care and couples treatments. There will also be a steam room and sauna, too.
Look to Re:lax at Aliante beginning mid-October. It will be located on the second floor and will be open to guests and non-guests alike.
As previously detailed, the separation brought a few changes to the casino including a new bingo hall, new restaurants and a new players club. The Aliante Casino website says that the players club would be online this month. Well, it's November 15 and the site isn't up-to-date yet. We're told that the site will be up and running before the month is over, though.

The off, off Strip property got its Boarding Pass in 2008 when it opened in North Las Vegas but, last November, Aliante Gaming became its new owners. Station Casinos has still been running the joint, though. But, starting Thursday, Aliante Gaming will take off the training wheels and take over completely.
