NASCAR and Las Vegas have a deeper relationship than most realize. One of the first few races of the season is held at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LVMS) every year. When there's not an event, visitors can even drive around LVMS at the Richard Petty Experience. While the last race of the season may take place in Homestead, Florida, it really draws to a close in Las Vegas. The NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion’s Week takes place around the valley December 2-5.
An annual celebration, NASCAR Champion’s Week is a chance for racing fans to see and (maybe) meet their favorite drivers. There’s also a very candid event that’s open to the public called After The Lap. The event is a tell-all conversation with the top 16 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers. In previous years, this off-the-cuff discussion has gone from interesting chatter and laughter to WTH when Tony Stewart dropped down to do push-ups or when Jeff Gordon decided that he’d break dance.

Everyone in Vegas, from the hotels to the restaurants, shows and nightclubs, loves to brag about awards they've received, no matter how ambiguous or unknown these awards may be. Our own guest Chatter'er Rick Lax sounded off on the "Best in Vegas" bragging nearly two years ago.
Recently, both the Bellagio, which just finished a recent room renovation, and The Cosmopolitan sent out press releases stating they each were voted a "best hotel" in the world. The Bellagio's top honor comes from Fodor's Travel Guides which deemed the hotel a Global Icon in their 2012 100 Hotel Awards. The hotel list was put together by the editorial team of Fodor's.

Oh, those anxious moments before the announcers take to the podium. The James Beard Foundation announced the 2012 finalists yesterday in the food equivalent of receiving an Academy Award nomination. And, this year, all the tension was bottled into a room at the Palazzo. But, despite Las Vegas hosting the event, the city was offered little love on the voting forms. Categories ranged from Outstanding Chef and Restaurant to best food blogger and humorous food writing. (Our review of the city's fried Twinkies is mysteriously absent.)
Over 550 judges tabulate the results derived from over 59,000 entries which sounds like a statistical nightmare. But, the Beard Foundation Awards are the apex of respectability within the food community and enormously prestigious for peer recognition and helping build an audience of informed and appreciative diners. The Venetian and the Palazzo's own collection of restaurants includes more James Beard award recipients than any other hotel in the Vegas. And, even more impressively, the world.

We love sports and we enjoy going to the sportsbook and watching nothing but sports. The ability to bet is only an enhancement. It's one of the thing that we've always found special about Vegas. Ever since our first trip to Vegas we wanted to have a TV room that looks like a sportsbook. We've wanted a wall of TVs that show nothing but sports all the time. It's kind of a respite from the rest of the world.

There's yet another awards show happening in Vegas and we wish we could get it up for the O Music Awards but we just can't. (Yes, we're too old, we know this.)
Apparently, MTV has created a new awards show to celebrate "art, creativity, personality, technology and migration of music into the digital space." The inaugural edition of the awards will be happening in Vegas on April 28 at 8pm and it will be streaming online as well as airing on MTV, VH1 and LogoTVbut the whereabouts of the show is still a secret. Yet MTV promises a flash mob (weren't those so 2008?) at a "surprise iconic Las Vegas location."

This time of year in Las Vegas is always busty…err..busy as CES tech porn meets porn porn. The Oscars for adult video, a.k.a. the AVN Awards, were handed out at The Palms Saturday. Many of the industry’s stars came for the event, or at least faked it.
Nominated categories range from the classy Retail and Distribution where Best Adult Distributor and Best Boutique get their hardware, to Video where Best Actress, Best Amateur Series, and Best Anal Series get recognition for their hard work. This week, we've got a very special guest series from Rick Lax who will be dropping off some helpful hints of how to avoid some of the more popular scams in Vegas. Want to read more of Rick's stuff? You're in luck! His book, Fool Me Once: Hustlers, Hookers, Headliners and How Not to Get Screwed in Vegas is now on sale.
The last time my parents visited Las Vegas they took me to Onda Ristorante at Mirage. Easily one of the worst meals I’ve had in Vegas. (Factoring in the price, it was the #1 worst meal I’ve ever had in Vegas.)
My mother defended her restaurant choice by saying, “I read that it had been voted ‘Best in Vegas.’”
Oh, that might be true, but it’s also meaningless. Every club, restaurant, and show on the strip has been voted ‘Best in Vegas’ at one point or another.

Fighters, celebrities, Vegas notables, and MMA fans came together at the Pearl at the Palms last night for the third annual World MMA Awards. It was a great vibe with a long red carpet, since after all who doesn't want to be honored at an awards show in Las Vegas?
The recurring theme for the night for us was Ron Jeremy. He was like a pimple on prom night; he kept popping up around us everytime we turned around. The night started off with Ron walking the Red Carpet without a belt.
Even at his age, he has no trouble keeping things up. The night ended spying a pajama clad Ron Jeremy in red (possibly pinkish) crocs staring wistfully into the Playboy store. To have been a fly on the wall with those thoughts...

While we're tried and true boxing fans, we can't deny that MMA--Mixed Martial Arts--has taken over Las Vegas in the past few years. That hasn't hampered our love for boxing, but it does sparks some interesting discussion.
However, come Wednesday, December 1st, the town will belong to the martial arts folks. That's when the third annual MMA Awards will take place at The Pearl Concert Theater inside Palms Casino.
While voting is now closed, fans were able to vote for their favorite fighters (male and female), KO's, Referees (?!), ugly brands of clothing and more at World MMA Awards. The fan results will be revealed at the event on Wednesday.
This is not what the top dog in the USA looks like
Here’s a surprise for this morning – the great Norm Clarke tweeted this morning that Pink’s Hot Dogs had made it into the top 20 cult eateries in the US, as judged by the magazine Poor Taste. Now, they’re specifically talking about the LA branch, but still. A coup for the Strip, no? The criteria were that the customer base should be as much local as tourist, the food must be stellar, the wait long, and the food cheap. Pink’s LA outpost made number three. As in, the third best cult eatery in the States. According to Poor Taste:
A fine chili dog on its own, once topped with bacon or pastrami, it becomes something otherworldly. The brave at heart may try the Three Dog Night, a multi-dog burrito creation that somewhat resembles a dirty diaper. If you can’t finish it, don’t worry — that’s probably a good thing.
