Mike Loses on 'Top Chef' But Gets The Girl?

Another Wednesday night brought us another episode of our beloved Top Chef Las Vegas. This week’s episode was dubbed, “Meat Natalie,” but we’ll get to why later.

As we’ve grown to loathe, the 60-minute segment was chock full of product whoring, including Seattle’s Best Coffee, Swanson Stock, TV Guide, Glad Cling Wrap, GE Monogram, Schwan’s, San Pellegrino and Alexia Crunchy Snacks. We’re sure we glazed over a few other strategic placements – the whole schtick is getting old.

When Dining at Bartolotta, Consider This Journey Your Fish Entree Had to Take

Bartolotta at The Wynn is one of the best seafood restaurants on the Strip, with Chef Paul Bartolotta having recently won his second James Beard award for best chef in a specific region.

We dined here last month for a special anniversary and while the entree prices are high (about $50 to $60), the fish is unbelievably fresh. A waiter will explain to you the day's fresh specialties and ours even went into a bit of the process of getting the Mediterranean fish to the desert of Las Vegas. But we had no idea the whole process looked like this.

Wired.com put together a Bartolotta fish timeline, detailing pretty much everything that happens from the moment a fish gets caught to when it arrives on your plate (in your choice of sauce too.) So the next time you eat at Bartolotta, you'll know just what your paying for.

The Wynn's Paul Bartolotta Wins James Beard Award

Chef Paul Bartolotta of Bartolotta Ristorante di Mare at the Wynn was announced as the winner of the James Beard Award for best chef in the southwest region for 2009 yesterday. Having had the opportunity to enjoy a meal at Bartolotta recently, we have only one thing to say: congrats on a well-deserved honor, Chef!

The award, announced by the James Beard Foundation at a ceremony in New York City's Lincoln Center, marks the second such honor chef Bartolotta has won; he received his first James Beard Award in 1994 for the midwest region for his work at his Chicago restaurant, Spiaggia.
