Celine Dion's Heart to Go On - And On - At Caesars. Again
Caesars really are rolling out the names right now. Good old Norm Clarke’s been murmuring about a return to Caesars for Celine Dion over the weekend, and last night, we heard the goss straight from the horse’s mouth (which, btw, is in no way a reference to Celine, or other Caesars hottie Matt Goss).
As we were waiting to file out of the Colosseum after Bette Midler’s final farewell concert, we got talking to an usher who told us that Bette might be gone for good, but Celine was set to return, most likely at the end of the year, or, if not, at the beginning of 2011. Not for a full-scale, permanent residency, but “for a couple of years, on a regular basis, like Cher.”

Bette Midler Is Leaving Las Vegas Because of The Slot Machines

Bette Midler announced that her resident show at Caesars Palace, "The Showgirl Must Go On" will indeed go off at the end of January. Her final performance will be held on January 31st. In the press release, Bette gives one of the most ridiculous statements ever and wethinks she even took a dig at Vegas:
"What a fabulous two years this has been, and I thank AEG and Caesars Palace for the best partnership a showgirl could imagine. Who knows? These legs have had such a great run in the desert---it may be time to haul them to places with more humidity and fewer slot machines. But first I need to finish recording my album of the sexiest new love songs that only a showgirl could sing," stated Midler.
If you're still interested in seeing Bette before she leaves, she is performing November 7 -15 and December 30 - January 31, 2010. The show is dark Monday, Thursday and occasional Fridays, you know, because she just doesn't feel like it.
Here's what else is on in Vegas:

· 'Viva Elvis' is Official[LA Times]
· BB King's Blue Bar will open at The Mirage on Friday [Daily Fiasco]

Bette Midler Gets Her Own Sundae at Serendipity 3

Serendipity 3 is the sweetest place on the Strip, serving up specialty sundaes and sinfully sweet concoctions. And while we'll pass on the $1,000 Golden Opulence Sundae, we're fiending to order the Divine Showgirl Sundae, a new treat is in honor of Bette Midler's 100th show at Caesars Palace.
The sundae was born from a Facebook contest and will be featured on the Serendipity 3 menu at Caesars Palace throughout the summer, concluding Aug. 31. The winning sundae’s creator was awarded two free tickets to the show and lunch for two at Serendipity. This sundae features strawberry and vanilla ice cream and exotic fruits honoring Bette’s Hawaiian heritage. The price: $12.75
Looks like you know where to find us until Labor Day Weekend.

Obama to Eclipse Vegas Headliners Tonight

No, he won’t be doing standup or starring in a highly choreographed production show á là Bette Midler, but he will be attending a "tribute concert"/fundraiser tonight at Caesars Palace's Colosseum for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada). According to the LVRJ, airspace over Vegas will be tightly controlled beginning today at 5:25 p.m. until at least 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
Scheduled to perform at the benefit are Midler, Sheryl Crow, Rita Rudner and Las Vegas crooner Clint Holmes, who will be singing the National Anthem for the crowd. Tickets were still available at Ticketmaster as of last night and start at the bargain price of $50 and go up to $250.

Elton John's Red Piano to End at Caesars But Bette is On Her Way

The Colosseum at Caesars Palace is one of the most technologically advanced performance spaces in Las Vegas. No wonder such big-name headliners like Elton John, Bette Midler and Cher only want their shows to be held on that stage. But unlike former permanent headliner Celine Dion, Elton, Bette and Cher pop into Vegas for a series of shows intermittently throughout the year. So if you are booking your trip around seeing Elton John's Red Piano show, then you better head to the Strip soon.
