We called foul when Border Grill tacked on an automatic .50 cent fee for water. And, our friends at Vital Vegas have taken Cabo Wabo to task for its concession & franchise fee that simply appears on bills as "CNF" without any pre-warning or explanation.

With New Year's Eve a distant memory (or coming up for real go-getters) and the Mardi Gras hangover starting to clear, VegasChatter has started to field more St. Patrick's Day queries. The answers are more important this year than perhaps any prior as displaced O'Sheas and Fitzgeralds loyalists look for a new place to revel in Irish green.
Below are our 2013 Irish and non-Irish suggestions in the post O'Fitz era. Note that many spots, especially the Irish bars, will charge a cover or sell tickets. Call ahead if there's any doubt.
Cabo Wabo has a lot going for it: the celebrity backing of Sammy Hagar, a music stage Sammy himself has taken, sizeable prime real estate inside Miracle Mile that opens to an outdoor bar and patio overlooking The Strip.
One of Cabo Wabo's selling points unfortunately isn't its food. Or, its atmosphere. At least when there's no live music. The semi-hidden route just past the hostess desk down a long hallway into the restaurant should've given us enough time to rethink our dinner plans. Or, check up on Yelp reviews. If we could only get decent AT&T data service anywhere inside Planet Hollywood or Miracle Mile. Hey, wait a second...

We're less than two weeks from the college football season beginning and three weeks from the NFL season! Yay! The NFL lockout from this spring and summer still has us wound up and we have a ravenous desire for the seasons to start.
We think that packing three months of off-season maneuvering into one week really set us off this year. We even placed our first preseason wagers ever before we headed to Brand Steakhouse the other night for some amazing mac n' cheese, steak and wine.
Various reports confirm that between the takedown of some illegal online sportsbooks and the lockout this VegasChatter member is not the only person wound up and that football betting is heavier than expected. Bars, restaurants and sportsbooks in Vegas are preparing for the rush with a variety of promotions and contests built around the kickoff of the NFL season.
Cabo Wabo at Planet Hollywood will have plenty of food and drink specials for everyone beginning September 1 while Rockhouse will have drink specials beginning with NFL opening night on September 8th. We're all for booze and food, but when talking football we're most intrigued by Station Casinos contests. The My Great Giveaway contests are, comparably, inexpensive wih a $25 entry fee. For example, the Hilton's SuperContest (the most famous) is $1,500 per entry. Of course, the bigger investment will give better returns, but we're attracted to the charm and cost of the Station contests.

Restaurants, spas and attractions up and down The Strip are offering special experiences and, in some cases, special pricing for dear ol' dad. Here are quite a few ways to show pa you care:

Not only is today finally Friday (yippee!), it's also one weekend away until the weekend we've been waiting forever for - Memorial Day Weekend!
You know when even celebs are saying how amazing it's going to be that Memorial Day weekend in Vegas is going to be spectacular. There are literally a bajillion things happening up, down and off the Strip so make sure you get your sleep in over the next week. There'll be no time to rest during the extended party ahead. From Fatboy Slim at Marquee to UFC 130, there will be no shortage to the things you can pack into your schedule. Here's an extensive list that's likely just the tip of the mayhem:
Cinco De Mayo / Mexican Food / Drinking / Holidays / Restaurants / Eating / Cabo Wabo / Planet Hollywood / Rhumbar / The Mirage / Crazy Horse III / Hussong's Cantina / Mandalay Bay / Rockhouse / Imperial Palace / M Resort / McFaddens / Rio Las Vegas / PBR Rock Bar / → All Tags
Erik Estrada. Midget wrestlers. Real Housewife cougar Tamra Barney and boytoy Eddie Judge. If you're looking to get loco on Cinco de Mayo, how about starting at a place that will make you feel like you've hit Crazy Town before you even begin to drink?
Estrada will preside over the mayhem once again which will include food and booze offers like $5 shots and $5 Dos Equis. The Half Pint Brawlers (made famous on Jackass 3D) will hype of the crowd and also take on guests filled with liquid courage in how-low-can-you-go limbo contests. Get cray-cray starting at 11 a.m. on May 5.
If that's not enough, here are eight other fiestas for Cinco de Mayo:

If the luck of the Irish will have you in Vegas next week for St. Patrick's Day, lady luck will make sure it's a holiday you'll
never forget, if you're up to the challenge. Restos, bars and lounges all around town are planning to party hard, and many early, in celebration of the Irish holiday.
At Mandalay Bay, Sin City's newest pub - actually a hodge-podge of old pubs from Ireland itself - will officially welcome its first patrons on March 17. (Although, a soft opening is expected to take place a few days before.) Ri Ra Pub will have 17 beers on tap, 85 bottled beers and 140 whiskey labels to choose from. With the country's only Guinness store located right next door, it only makes sense that bartenders will be Guinness-certified on how to pour the perfect pint which will be served at 40 degrees in a 20-ounce glass.
The pub is a treasure to explore and if you don't go beyond the first bar, you'll be missing out as we found out on a preview tour a few days ago. Wander into each of the pub's four rooms to see something interesting and unique whether it's a gorgeous stained glass mirror salvaged from Dublin's Olympia Theatre where U2, Johnny Cash and others played, or the pub's quaint parlor room that will make you feel like you're boozing it up in grandma's house.

The first round of March Madness won't start until March 15, but that's not stopping Vegas restaurants and bars from promoting their specials now. And, they know the best way to hit a slam dunk with fans is to discount that booze. Ohhh, yeah.
At New York-New York,
ESPN Zone The Sporting House will reward one lucky customer for boozing it up within its walls.
Every bucket of Bud or Bud Light you purchase at the resto will earn you a shot at winning four recliners during the Final Four Championship games. Having some place comfy to plant our tush is cool, but New York-New York is going a few steps further by throwing in food and beverage, too, kicking in $1,000 bucks and making sure the lucky winner has not one, but two rooms for two nights to rest our bleary heads.
The contest starts today so start ordering soon. The winner will be announced March 27. There's a catch, tho, that will be tricky. In order to win the cash, you'll need to be present for the announcement. If not, you'll get everything but. Still a pretty good haul, even without the benjamins.
Here's a look at what other "madness" you'll find on The Strip this March:
After this past weekend's wildcard games, with shocking wins by the Seahawks and the Jets, the race to Dallas for Super Bowl XLV has now officially begun. Here in Vegas, another race has also begun--the Super Bowl, er, Big Game, party race.
We'll be listing the parties that various bars across Vegas will be throwing in this space right here. We're going to constantly be updating the event information, adding new parties and updating the existing ones (particularly if they sell out.) Got a party we should know about? Tip us off. And remember, LACES OUT!

If there’s one thing that makes us feel like Christmas it’s overeating so we’re getting festively excited about the latest offering from Cabo Wabo.
The brand new I can’t Drive 55 Dollar Nachos may only be classed as an appetizer, but it’s more than most people could eat over a couple of meals – eight pounds worth of nachos plus 20 toppings. And obviously, a mammoth dish means an eating competition.
When they first introduced the dish, which costs $55, the deal was that anyone who could finish it solo in under 55 minutes would get it free, as well as a free Cabo Wabo t-shirt and a place in Sammy Hagar’s “Macho Nacho Hall of Fame”. However, it’s been a couple of weeks now and nobody has risen to the occasion – so Cabo Wabo have upped it to two people. Two of you could manage that, right?
We suggest you try it on Christmas day. What better way to remember the reason for the season?
