Yes, karaoke. Your favorite lumbering, mumbling, castrato, wanna-be muppet CeeLo Green has begun his Loberace show residency at Planet Hollywood, complete with balloon animals and a lip-syncing, drag queen, Boy George. Confused? You won't be, after this week's episode of Vegas Strip follies.
Before the proceedings began, a semi-comatose CeeLo devotee projectile vomited in row two. Destroying a poor woman’s handbag. And, creating a toxic shock for the first three rows. The Planet Hollywood staff handled the procedure with startling ineptness and lack of skill or grace. A portend. Consider this: A section of the front three rows of a premiere, Saturday night show, could be evacuated and seats could be immediately found for everyone inconvenienced. As media invites, who didn't have to pay for our ticket, we thought it sad for the paying customers.
The show wishes to invoke the associated luxury lifestyle and name of Liberace. Done right, a winking at old Vegas, uber-cool CeeLo would be great entertainment. But, this is simply pop cultural necrophilia. Liberace was a live musician. There are none on the Loberace stage. During one of his audience walkabouts, Cee professes to love the "shock" and "surprise" of those who inspired him. So, he features lip sync covers of their songs. That shocked and surprised us. Not exactly moving the ball forward.

Last December, we mentioned the promotional video for CeeLo Green's upcoming residency at Planet Hollywood. It had been playing on the big screen outside the casino, but not online. Now, it is. And, with a flashy piano undertone, flashy car and flashy chandeliers, CeeLo's morphing into Loberace manages to hit three well-worn Liberace notes. But, it certainly gets the job done. Curious about CeeLo in Vegas? Take a peek:
