Poker Brat to Greet (and Probably Deride) Fans on Sunday

November 6, 2009 at 12:57 PM | by | Comments (0)

Most poker fans won’t actually be able to interact with Phil Hellmuthat the World Series of Poker Hall of Fame dinner this weekend.

They can, however, catch the Poker Brat at a local bookstore on Sunday.

Hellmuth will be signing copies of his new book, "Deal Me In," at the Barnes & Noble at 8915 W. Charleston Blvd., in the Crossroads Commons shopping center. The signing will start at 6 p.m.

Considering Hellmuth’s reputation for berating opponents and general obnoxiousness, the signing should be a perfect outing for the guys. One caveat: Barnes & Noble management has made painfully clear that the poker professional (and 11-time WSOP bracelet winner) only will sign copies of the book—no other memorabilia is allowed.

(This means B&N management probably won’t let fans bring shaving-cream pies to throw at Hellmuth, either. Unfortunately.)

Matt Dillon Still Making the Ladies Swoon at Azure at The Palazzo

Where: 3327 Las Vegas Boulevard South [map], 89109
July 6, 2009 at 7:28 PM | by | Comments (0)

Sure, there were celebs all over Sin City last weekend but we've got detailed reports on those who kicked it at The Palazzo.

On Saturday, Dancing with Stars betrothed dancers, Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy, settled in a private VIP cabana at Azure. The duo hosted the pool's Fourth of July party sponsored by Absolut vodka and Karina announced a fashion show that also took place poolside. We're sorry to tell you that the couple did not break out any ballroom moves for guests although they did spend Friday night dancing a little at TAO.

The day before, the still very hunky Matt Dillon kicked it poolside as well. While this snapshot of Matt shows him wearing too much clothing for poolside in Vegas, our "source" says he did (thankfully!) put on some swim trunks.

Matt was laying out on a lounge chair catching some rays with his jeans on and then decided he was going to spend the day at Azure and went and changed into his swim trunks. He stopped at The Palazzo Pool Shop looking for swimming trunks, but then decided to just wear his own. One lady gasped “Oh my goodness, is that Matt Dillon??!!” At times, he was surrounded by a women. Matt was very friendly to everyone. Guests were enjoying talking to Matt out by the pool. After his day at Azure, Matt and his friends had dinner on the terrace at Lavo.

The opening round of World Series of Poker kicked off over the holiday weekend at The Rio and as of Monday morning, 3,685 players have anted up in the 40th annual poker tournament. Two former poker champs were knocked out of the event--2006 winner Jamie Gold and 1983's champ Tom McEvoy--but another former champion Phil Hellmuth survived, perhaps because of his...er...confident arrival? Howard Stutz of the LVRJ's Inside Gaming blog reports:

Hellmuth, the 11-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner, entered the Rio dressed as Roman Emperor Julius Caesar. Hellmuth was carted into the Rio while sprawled out across a special platform carried by several centurions. Last year, Hellmuth made his grand entrance dressed as Gen. George S. Patton, rolling into the Rio parking lot atop an army tank.

The poker tournament will keep on going every day at The Rio until July 15th. The Final Table play will be held from November 7-10, 2009.

The NHL Awards Are Underway at The Palms

June 18, 2009 at 8:38 PM | by | Comments (0)

For the first time ever the National Hockey League is hosting their annual awards ceremony in the desert of Las Vegas and things are already well underway at the Pearl Concert Theater at The Palms. As with most events these heady social-networking days, the best place to find up-to-the-minute news about what's happening is on Twitter.

Only Vegas (The LVCVA) covered the red carpet and bikini model Lacey Jones is keeping the Twittersphere updated on who's won which awards. And of course, The Palms Las Vegas official Twitter page is updating too.

Since this is Las Vegas, all sorts of celebs have come out of the woodwork to attend and Twitterer VegasBill has seen them all. According to him, singers Michael Buble and Chaka Khan were spotted entering the event as was actor Kevin Connolly and Palms owner George Maloof. Even Robin Thicke who performed last night at a JetBlue event in Los Angeles has already done his thang on the red carpet .

Once the awards are over the party will will continue at Rain at The Palms. Expect to see hockey hoochies prowling the hotel until the wee hours in the morning.

Joe Pesci's Pizza Shops Coming Soon to Las Vegas

May 11, 2009 at 1:39 PM | by | Comment (1)

First we spotted Danny DeVito’s limoncello at the Epicurean Affair (and again at Friday’s Uncork’d Grand Tasting), and now we hear another diminutive Italian actor is launching a consumable brand. Joe Pesci, known among other things for his role playing mobster Nicky Santoro in the movie "Casino," will be opening up a string of pizza joints called Pesci’s Pizza.

His business partner in this new venture? None other than one Sig Rogich, a Vegas kingmaker of sorts and former campaign adviser to Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush. We’re not making that up. Anyway, his first outpost is scheduled to open in Las Vegas this summer. There's no word on exactly where the pizza parlor will first open but we're thinking some place in the Palazzo, where "Jersey Boys" is currently playing, might be a good start. After all, a young Joe Pesci makes an appearance and Pesci himself is a producer.

April 30, 2009 at 7:01 PM | by | Comments (0)

The one-year anniversary party of Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon at The Palms tonight just goes to show you that Vegas will find a reason to celebrate anything under the sun. Anything!

The party kicks off at 10:30pm at the Moon nightclub and Nick Cannon will make an appearance later to DJ a set of tunes which will no doubt include remixes of "Touch My Body", "Fantasy" and "Heartbreaker" and his one-off hit with R. Kelly, "Gigolo." We're assuming that Mimi will be in the crowd too but no word on whether she'll break out her bedazzled microphone.

All-access admission passes can be bought on Vegas.com for $25 and those will get you admission to Moon, Playboy and Ghostbar.

Justin Timberlake Brings His 'Love Sex Magic' to Vegas

April 13, 2009 at 6:35 PM | by | Comments (0)

Justin Timberlake flew into Las Vegas for a whirlwind trip this last weekend. He started off by flying the commercial airline Southwest from Los Angeles into Sin City, instead of arriving via a private plane. We have to say, we're impressed.

Then he made his way to XS inside Encore where he celebrated his 901 Tequilas in a VIP Poolside cabana. Him and his boys capped off the night at The Playboy Club at The Palms. The next night his crew ate dinner at Nobu in the Hard Rock Hotel before sitting down at the casino tables.

JT wasn't the only famous face out on Easter weekend. The Las Vegas Sun says Billy Idol, Nicky Hilton, Dave Navarro, Anthony Anderson, Macy Gray, Jermaine Dupri and Debbie Harry were among some of the celebs in town.

Have any celeb spottings while you were in town last weekend? Let us know who you saw and where.

Guess who's back? Back Again...George Maloof?

It's been a long time since we've heard from Slim Shady but the next time Eminem hits up Las Vegas, we have a very good idea of where he will be staying. The Palms.

That's because George Maloof Jr., co-owner of The Palms, makes a cameo in Em's new video for "We Made You" which was released today.
