Max Brenner's Chocolate Playground Still On Track To Open This Summer

Where: 3570 Las Vegas Boulevard [map], 89109

Normally, we'd think someone was crazy for opening a chocolate shop in the middle of the desert in the summer but this is Las Vegas so Max Brenner has nothing to worry about. Except for maybe some competition from the other sweet shops that have popped up on The Strip.

Yet that's not to say his shop won't be impressive. The Max Brenner Chocolate restaurant is still set for a vague "Summer" opening inside The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace. The restaurant will be the largest Max Brenner location yet with about 9,400-square-feet. There will be oversized white vats of chocolate flowing into pipes running throughout the space and counters and shelves overflowing with huge chocolate bricks, pralines, candies and cocoa beans.

More Detes Are Oozing Out on Max Brenner's Chocolate Factory

Late last year, we reported that a Max Brenner Chocolate Restaurant would be opening in the old Chinois spot inside The Forum Shops.

Everything seems still on track for the self-described "bald man” to explode on the Strip scene Summer 2010. For chocoholics, it’s like the holy alter of cocoa and the perfect place to curb your sweet tooth. The menu is mostly chocolate-inspired with variations of hot chocolate, milkshakes, espresso drinks and smoothies, although other locations do serve non-cavity inducing fare.

Bald-Headed Chocolate Man Coming to The Forum Shops This Summer

December 23, 2009 at 12:30 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

We were recently alerted on Twitter by jcname that a Max Brenner Chocolate Restaurant would be opening in the old Chinois spot inside The Forum Shops. This is quite cool because the famous chocolate shop (begun in Australia and beloved by celebrities) is only open elsewhere in the U.S. in New York and Philadelphia, with limited locations abroad too. Score another exclusive for Vegas.

The man behind all this is of course, Max Brenner, a self-described "bald man" who has this philosophy on his chocolate:

I don't invent anything in chocolate. It all exists in people’s minds and hearts. I just express it in the most evident way- a way that everyone imagines chocolate and wishes to experience it.

Until now, chocolate was sold in a manner that contradicts its sensual, warm and joyful character... Restrained ambiance. Untouchable. Closed behind a glass barrier. I have "freed" chocolate from its cage.

I let people experience it to the fullest. I allow people to enjoy it to the max. It's so simple. All you have to do is just really love chocolate!!

Calling Jean-Philipe Patisserie and his chocolate waterfall at The Bellagio--you have some competition!

Vosges Haut Chocolat for the True Chocolate Connoisseur

Where: 3500 Las Vegas Boulevard South [map], 89109

Inside the three-story, most recent expansion of the Forum Shops at Caesars, you will find what might be the most sophisticated, highbrow (if there can be such a designation) chocolates we’ve ever seen.

Vosges Haut Chocolat infuses its delicacies with rare spices and flowers from all over the globe. Part of its mission is to uncover and celebrate the exotic flavors associated with the world’s diverse culinary cultures by blending them with the finest chocolate available. This is what they say about their mission:

The Vosges Haut-Chocolat mission is to create a luxury chocolate experience rooted in a sensory journey of bringing about awareness to indigenous cultures through the exploration of spices, herbs, roots, flowers, fruits, nuts, chocolate and the obscure.

This is what we say: “Mmmmmmm. That’s good. Kind of strange, but good.”

When a Chocolate Fountain Just Won't Do, Take the Ethel M Factory Tour

Where: 2 Cactus Garden Drive, Henderson [map], 89014

The Entertainment Capital of the World is known – and rightly so – as a one-industry town. But that doesn’t we don’t have our own little enterprises going. Let’s see: there’s Ron Lee’s World of Clowns (freaky!), an Ocean Spray cranberry plant and the parent company of a rocket fuel producer (they moved the actual plant to Cedar City, Utah, after an explosion here in Vegas in 1988).

Anyway, our favorite boutique industry here in Vegas has to be Ethel M Chocolates. You may have noticed the Ethel M Chocolates shops at McCarran Airport, where they sell fancy truffles and various chocolate assortments gift-boxed in Vegas-themed or seasonal packaging. Perhaps you’ve even been compelled to purchase one as a last-minute gift for the folks back home.

But you can go beyond the chocolate shop by touring the Ethel M factory in Henderson, about 15 minutes away from the Strip. Best part? The free tours daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., during which visitors can watch the bonbons being made and enjoy what some would describe as “generous” free samples. C’mon. Everybody gets at least a little excited about free chocolate! It brings out the kid in us all and it beats staring at an (albeit elaborate) chocolate fountain.

M&Ms World Will Take Care of Your Chocolate Fix

Where: 3785 Las Vegas Boulevard South [map], 89109

One of the most colorful attractions in Las Vegas certainly has to be M&Ms World, a four-story shrine to the popular candy-coated chocolates.

Here you will find M&Ms-themed attractions like a 3-D film, a replica of Las Vegas NASCAR driver Kyle Busch’s M&Ms branded car and a time line charting the evolution of M&Ms’ advertising over the years.

Don’t mistake this for a real museum or anything, though. It’s a merchandising extravaganza for the M&Ms/Mars folks. Here, you’ll find more M&Ms merchandise than you would have ever thought possible (or necessary), from squishy M&M-shaped pillows to – no kidding – crystal-encrusted tie clips, plus every kind of garment, candy dispenser and tchotchke in between.

Coffee and Chocolate Team Up at Teuscher

Miracle Mile at Planet Hollywood is still suffering from multiple personality disorder – what with the ghost of the Moroccan-themed Desert Passage still lingering here and there. Various vignettes worthy of a Middle Eastern bazaar still exist in the decor, which hasn't entirely been overtaken by the venue's new new, urban-sleek veneer.

It’s always suffered a little, too, by a maligned reputation as just a lengthy corridor between Planet Hollywood’s parking garage and its casino. Rumors have it that it’s really a mile long, but we’ve walked it many times and doubt the garage-casino route is close to half that.

In any event, Miracle Mile has some decent shops, a variety of restaurants (including Lucky Cheng’s dinner-and-drag show) and – for those of you who’ve sworn off coffee chains like Starbucks and Coffee Bean – some java alternatives. We especially like Teuscher, located in the mall just outside the casino. It’s actually a Swiss chocolate emporium that happens to serve Northern Italy’s preferred caffe brand, Illy.
