Five Quickie Snapshot Updates From Around The Strip
A failed trip to check out the new Citizens Kitchen at Mandalay Bay for breakfast didn't satisfy our hunger (we ended up at Raffles Cafe, sad face), but it did provide us with several new updates to share. The first we learned the hard way -- the newly opened, 24/7 Citizens turns away new guests for about 45-60 minutes between breakfast and lunch service. You can probably guess what time we happened to arrive. A rep says they're working out some transitional kinks in the kitchen and hope to eliminate that closure within the next few weeks. Until then, stay away from around 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
After breakfast, we journeyed down The Strip and made the following discoveries:
Hakkasan, that five-story restaurant-slash-lounge-slash-nightclub coming to MGM Grand, still won't say when it's opening exactly, but there's at least a sign for it now. And, some patterned ironwork. And, a big a** video screen.

It's A Big Weekend And Not Just Because Of The Big Game
This weekend is going to be crazy in Vegas and not just because of Super Sunday. There are a bunch of new openings for you to add to your must-try list and a dive hotel-casino to bid adieu. Here's the lowdown:
Citizens Kitchen at Mandalay Bay: Now open. This new 24-7 casual eatery by The Light Group opened its doors Friday morning. Head here for upscale grub. We hear the tater tots are killer. And, if you're especially hungry, there's a monster muffuletta challenge. Priced at $135, the pork and cheese sandwich is meant for six. Eat it by yourself and your meal will be free.
Heraea at Palms: Opening Sunday. Touted as a sports bar/restaurant for women, Heraea will kickoff its debut on Super Sunday.

Citizens To Bring 'Real Food' To 'Real People' By Month's End
The Light Group isn't dishing yet on the exact opening date for Citizens Kitchen at Mandalay Bay, a 24-hour "casual American bistro." But, it will say they're on target for an opening sometime during the last week of this month. Nor, is it revealing the full menu (aside from crab cakes, fried chicken and meatloaf). But, from new ads, it looks like the eatery, and its cuisine, won't just target club kids. Nor, encourage the use of silverware.
Marketing ads show a biker daintily eating a salad, an everyman going to town on some spaghetti and an everywoman enjoying a pastrami and sauerkraut sammy (we think). All have cocktails and none have forks. But, at least we know that napkins will be available.

Red Square To Reopen In A Week
The vodka will soon be flowing again at Red Square inside Mandalay Bay.
A walk by the recently shuttered bar-slash-restaurant revealed that a quickie renovation isn't being kept too tightly under wraps. The door was wide open and nothing covered the windows, either. When we pressed our nose up to the glass strolled by, a lone employee worked on the flooring. A sea of red still reigned inside.

Citizens, Revamped Red Square Coming To Mandalay Bay
Red, White and Blue's days are officially numbered at Mandalay Bay.
The Light Group confirms that it will close on November 18 to make way for a new casual American bistro concept by its go-to chef Brian Massie dubbed Senior Citizens Kitchen & Bar. The re-tooled space will still serve up three square meals when it reopens. (Update: Citizens will be open 24 hours a day.)
Back in August, the buzz was that two other Mandalay restos would also close on that date, China Grill and Red Square. That may not happen in one fell swoop anymore (Light Group is only committing right now to the November 18 date for Red, White and Blue), but new details are coming to light (hee) on what exactly will happen to Red Square.
