Your personal preferences revolving around whether or not you’d like to be part of a cougar-prey meat market. Because tonight, the Trop is playing host to a Cougar Convention in its ballroom.

What Went Down At CES and the Porn Expo

January 11, 2010 at 3:54 PM | by juliab | 0 Comments

We're not laughing at this pic. Honest.

So the dust has settled, the bedrooms have been vacated and the blow up dolls are being removed form the Convention Center – CES and the Adult Entertainment Expo are no more, and we’ll have to look elsewhere for hard partying geeks and fake boobs thrusting into our personal space.* Time for a post-coital analysis of how things went down.

The triumphs of CES focused mainly on the 3D revolution and other neat products like the Pop Box. The fallout? Slightly more amusing. One missing tooth, one broken “unbreakable” phone, and many people’s dignity.

And looks like the geekery, erm, rubbed off on the porn folk too, because they were all about 3-D, apps, and (seriously) sexbots. Wild Wendy? Frigid Farrah? For $9000? We may just have expunged them from our memory by the time next year rolls around.

Meanwhile, roaming the Strip we saw plenty of partied out techies but not as many slutty starlets as we were expecting. Could there be some correlation between those two facts?

* “Elsewhere” basically meaning the Hard Rock.

The Porn Expo Wants You. Yes, CES People, You

January 7, 2010 at 1:34 PM | by juliab | 0 Comments

Look, geeks! This could be you and your new 3D, wireless cameras!

Of all the things going down in Vegas at the moment, you’d think the Adult Entertainment Expo would be the least likely to need to resort to discounting tickets or plying for business.

But no, in this recession, it seems people will even think twice about splashing out $80 on a ticket to a pornfest. So the AEE is offering $5 off entry (hur hur) to CES attendees. Because everyone knows that bad girls love geeky guys, right?

All you have to do is bring along your badge to onsite registration, and you can’t use this alongside any other discounts. Non-discounted rates are $80 per day or $220 for the full three days, plus a $3 processing fee whichever option you go to.

If you’re a female CES attendee and don’t fancy paying for a sausage fest, you could always hit up Rok Vegas at New York-New York tonight, where Ron Jeremy is hosting a party for Naughty America. With Ron looking in fine fettle, that should definitely be one for the girls*.

*VegasChatter cannot be held responsible for counseling fees incurred through the trauma of sharing a club with Ron Jeremy. Sorry 'bout that.

It's The Most Wonderful Time of The Year...For Techies and Porn Stars

January 4, 2010 at 12:29 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

It's that time of the year again, when CES arrives in town! The Consumer Electronics Show begins on January 7 and lasts through Sunday. While many attendants will be on the lookout for tech trends to watch in 2010, no doubt a few of them will be distracted by the Adult Entertainment Expo which is also taking place this weekend.

Considering that the internet is keeping the porn business alive, it should make for a very celebratory weekend, we thinks.

Hard up to look at hard drives and porn stars but in need of a room? Unfortunately, your options are limited as rooms are nearly sold-out on the Strip. Here's what a cursory search on Expedia and some hotel websites yielded:

What's That Smell? Oh, It's Just the Cannabis Convention

Where: 3950 Las Vegas Boulevard South [map], 89119
December 18, 2009 at 11:00 AM | by juliab | 0 Comments

Don’t assume all conventions are boring, dude. As well as the Adult Entertainment Expo (AKA porn convention) taking place January 7-10, it’s just been announced that the Mandalay Bay Convention Center will become stoner central from March 19-21 as it hosts Cannapalooza: billing itself as “the international marketplace for all things cannabis.”

The convention will host an “educational symposium” with experts and celeb guests (um, Woody Harrelson? Megan Fox?) banging the weedy drum, as well as showcasing cutting edge “products and technologies”.

The lucky recipients of all this wisdom? Industry insiders, medical users, and those who have what it coyly refers to as having a “casual interest” in the scene. Yup, it’s open to the public for $15, and you can find out all about it here. Better book it quick – we’re assuming interest will be, um, high. Dude.

Barry Manilow Fan Club is Gearing Up for Its 2010 Convention

Where: 3655 Las Vegas Blvd So [map], 89109
December 7, 2009 at 8:22 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Now that Barry Manilow has moved his way up from the Las Vegas Hilton to Paris, it only makes sense that the Barry Manilow International Fan Club will be moving their convention in July to the Paris hotel.

The All Barry, All The Time weekend (July 9-11) consists of seeing Barry's show on Friday and Saturday night, with a formal sit-down dinner at the Paris on Saturday. After each show the party will continue with the "Jump Shout Dance Party" (Friday night) and the "Dancin’ In the Aisle Disco Party" (Saturday night.)

Alas, the packages are not cheap. Staying at Bally's, which connects to Paris, the package prices begin at $1,350. For one person staying in Paris, the price bumps up to $1,450. And not just anyone can book these packages. You must be a card-carrying member of the BMIFC. Not to mention, space is limited. Oh snap!

Meanwhile, Barry is finishing out his engagement at the LV Hilton now. He starts up officially at Paris in March. Tickets range from $95–$250, and are available from the Paris Théâtre box office, and at ManilowParis.com.

Geeks and Pornstars are 'Gearing Up' for January 7

Where: 3150 Paradise Road [map], 89109
November 17, 2009 at 12:21 PM | by juliab | 0 Comments

In a scheduling move that would make a brilliant reality show (we’re thinking a more hardcore Beauty and the Geek), the geeks and the pornstars will be hitting the Strip on January 7.

The CES (Consumer Electronics Show) will be taking place at the Las Vegas Convention Center, while the Adult Entertainment Expo is, erm going down at the Sands Expo. Both run until January 10.

The same scheduling clash took place last year so obviously the powers that be deemed it worth a rerun.

Last year, the AEE revealed that the porn industry was facing hard tough times, poor lambs, so we’re excited to know what the scoop is for 2010. If it’s still tough out there, maybe the geeks can wade in with some gadget advice. Yum.

Going to CES? Book Soon if you Want to Snag a ‘Deal’

October 27, 2009 at 12:27 PM | by MsRebecca | 0 Comments

With all the holidays creeping up on us, not to mention the trips and hotel bookings that come with them, we almost forgot about what comes hot on the heels of New Year’s: the Consumer Electronics Show. The 2010 Tradeshow of Geekdom takes place January 7–10, but if you want to avoid paying exorbitant rates for a room you will barely see, you should get your good self over to the CES Hotel Reservations site, where you can take advantage of “special” rates for registered CES attendees.

We say “special” because, while they are cheaper than what you can expect to pay if you leave your booking until December, they’re still considerably more than what you’d pay on a regular night in Vegas. The price we pay to be an in-the-know geek!

The CES rates range from $30 a night at the Sahara on the Wednesday and Sunday (ie: the lowest-attended days of the show) to $279 a night at the Bellagio on the busiest days, Thursday and Friday. All the big guys—such as Wynn, TI, Mandalay Bay and MGM—are in the $200-$250 a night range and many look like they’ve been reduced since we first started checking this page.

MAGIC Fashion Trade Show Hits Vegas This Week

Where: 3150 Paradise Road [map], 89109
August 31, 2009 at 3:23 PM | by Erika Pope | 0 Comments

Twice a year, the fashion industry converges on Vegas for the MAGIC trade show. It turns the city’s largest convention center turns into fashionista central for a few days and bringing dozens of designer-sponsored parties and celebrities to venues around town.

MAGIC opens today and runs through Wednesday and, as per usual, the celeb factor is expected to be pretty high – both in terms of designers themselves and various starlets/entertainers who like to align themselves with the fashionable side of life.
