Where Have All The Healthy Celebrity Headliners Gone?

March 23, 2012 at 6:07 PM | by | Comments (0)

What is in the water that celebs in Vegas are drinking these days?

Due to an illness, Celine Dion is down for the count until June. Elton John got socked with a bout of nasty food poisoning before a couple of his concerts last month. Some guy named John Mayer had to cancel a Vegas concert stop to undergo throat surgery.

Now, we've got word that Donny Osmond will be dropping out of the Donny and Marie Show at The Flamingo for a little while due to severely rough hands, er, vocal fatigue.

The show will still run, but it will be just Marie holding down the fort. She will be joined by other artists for the occasional duets so it's not going to be entirely about her, her wigs and her costume changes. Phew!

Now, we just hope Garth and Rod Stewart are sipping copious amounts of chamomille tea with honey and just, generally, taking it easy.

Three Vegas Shows That Will Be Around For A While Longer

March 29, 2011 at 7:11 PM | by | Comments (0)

Unfortunately, this guy isn't one of them...

You know those handful of Vegas shows that have been around for-ev-vah that we all mean to get around to - if only to find out just why the heck they've been around for so long - but something else always manages to come up?

If Donny & Marie, Terry Fator or Gordie Brown are on your list (only Donny & Marie are on ours), you've got a few more years to procrastinate - each of these long-running Vegas shows will officially be around for more than just a bit longer.

A Pool Switcharoo, And More New Things A'Coming To Flamingo

March 16, 2011 at 4:27 PM | by | Comments (7)

We knew that Flamingo was changing their pool situation around, but weren't sure to what extent until we received a heads up from VegasChatter reader ericrz.

Eric pointed us to a post on Flamingo's Facebook page that stated that access to the two pools is being switched.

Donny And Marie Start Their Fairytale In New York

Where: New York, NY [map]
December 10, 2010 at 11:45 AM | by | Comments (0)

They may not be on the side of the Flamingo anymore, but Donny and Marie are moving onwards and upwards – specifically, to New York.

VegasChatter took a quick daytrip to New York this week (yes, we’re exhausted, thanks for asking) and one of the first things we made sure we did was to rush down to Times Square and check out the Marquis Theater on Broadway, where their Christmas show started last night.

And look, not only were their smiling faces up at the theater itself – but because the theater entrance is on Times Square, Donny and Marie have made it to Times Square! We couldn’t be happier for the cheesemeisters.

Meanwhile, Marie was busy tweeting opening night butterflies yesterday. Hope it went well! Although we’d like you to come back and dance in your cage thing at the Flamingo pretty soon.

H&M Has Wiped Out Donny & Marie

It’s always hard to let go of the people you love. But because we love Donny and Marie, we’re mentally setting them free and wishing them well for their Chrimbo stint in NYC (and coincidentally, we promise, lining up two New York trips for ourselves this month).

But at least, we thought, we’d have their grinning faces on the side of the Flamingo to gaze at every time we needed a smooth face, white teeth fix. So yesterday, feeling the loss, we headed over to brunch at Serendipity.

But alas, all we got was the models of H&M instead. Now, some oversized Boyz II Men we could have dealt with but H&M? That’s not very Vegas, is it?

What we really want to know now is whether Donny and Marie will be back where they belong, 50 ft high, when they return in January. Because only that will right the world right now.

From The Rodmanator To Donny & Marie: Five Golden Oldies You Should See

November 4, 2010 at 1:46 PM | by | Comments (2)

Who needs Cirque when you have this incredibleness?

Yeah yeah yeah, performers don’t die, they go to Vegas (sometimes to die on stage there). And there are a host of golden oldies taking to the Strip right now (the Colosseum appears to be squeezing them all in before Celine takes over, starting with Rod Stewart this weekend) – so many that you might be confused as to which to choose. So we’ve tried to divvy them up depending on your taste.

Donny and Marie: Back Tonight, Plus Extra Shows For April

Where: 3555 Las Vegas Blvd South [map], 89109
March 9, 2010 at 11:53 AM | by | Comments (0)

Marie Osmond is a trooper. Not only are she and Donny back at the Flamingo tonight after missing a mere six shows in the wake of her son’s death, but they’re also scheduling new shows running April 13-17 (which was meant to be their vacation) to make up for the dates they cancelled.

According to Johnny Kats, Marie’s looking forward to working again, finding it “cathartic”. Let's hope so.

Tickets are available for all dates, and cost $99 and up.

Hmm...Donny Osmond, Veteran Performer and Dancer, Wins 'Dancing with The Stars'

November 25, 2009 at 12:07 PM | by | Comments (0)

Donny working the crowd at The Flamingo.

Don't get us wrong. We looove Donny Osmond. He is one sexy grandfather and we're thinking about converting to Mormonism if it means looking as good as he does when we are 75 52.

But having just won "Dancing with The Stars" Season 9 last night, we can't help but wonder if that's a fair pick for a winner. After all, this is DONNY OSMOND. He's been performing--dancing and singing--since he was in diapers. He's STILL performing today at The Flamingo with his sister, Marie.

Don't you think he has far too much of an advantage here? Oh well, guess the producers of DWTS should have considered this before they put him on the show.

Now, we are just curious how dates for the Donny and Marie show will be affected when Donny goes on the DWTS tour. The duo renewed their contract at The Flamingo through October 2010. We assume it's show business as usual but we at least expect one DWTS-dedicated number during his show now.

Tickets start at $90 for balcony seats and range up to $255 for a VIP experience which includes front-of-stage seating and an after-show photo with the stars.

Don't Expect Donny and Marie To Perform With The Osmonds This Weekend

Where: 4500 West Tropicana Avenue [map], 89103

We couldn’t help but guffaw when we read the promo blurb on VisitLasVegas.com for The Osmonds, who are performing at The Orleans this weekend (August 28-30). After waxing poetical-like about the “legendary” Osmond family who shot to fame in the early 70s with “dynamic youngest brother Donny as a focal point,” it closes with this piece of advice:

Check lineup of entertainers before purchasing tickets, please.

You see, the dynamo of a little bro apparently isn’t part of said lineup, chiefly because he and his wholesome sister Marie are performing that night in their own show at the Flamingo.

Donny and Marie Pour on the Cheese and We Eat It Up

Where: 89109
March 4, 2009 at 9:04 PM | by | Comments (0)

When the Flamingo Las Vegas decided to replace ailing Toni Braxton with America's most wholesome teen idols, Donny and Marie Osmond, we were quite skeptical. Let's be honest, here. Donny and Marie haven't been relevant together since the 70s. Sure, Marie fainted on "Dancing with the Stars" the other season and Donny played Joseph in a "Technicolor Coat" for a while, but aside from a talk-show stint in the 90s we thought this duo was doomed to play-out the rest of their lives in the pages of the National Enquirer. Well, at least Marie was.

Yet after Toni exited the Strip and then started sidestepping on "Dancing with the Stars," The Flamingo called up Donny and Marie to do a variety act, reminiscent of their highly-rated TV show which ran from 1976-79.

On a visit to Sin City in late January, at the behest of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), we were invited to see The Donny & Marie Show. And we were utterly shocked by what we learned. Shocked, we tell ya. Here's what we walked away thinking--Donny and Marie are talented, good-looking, entertaining and funny wholesome performers.
