Is The Ticket Policy for Garth Brooks a Little Too Harsh?
When it was announced last year that Garth Brooks would be performing at Encore in weekend stints scattered over five years, everyone scrambled to get tickets.
But they went fast, selling out pretty much right after the dates and times were announced. Yet most Garth fans probably suspected that if they failed to buy 'em from the Wynn Box office, they could pursue other ticket sites. Wrong.
From the get-go, Encore and Wynn announced a strict policy regarding any tickets not bought from their own box office. In short, they would void any ticket not bought from their box office. They would also void any ticket bought over the asking price of $143 (again, a way to weed out tickets not bought from their own box office.)

Last-Minute Garth Tickets Are Still Available
The Wynn has put some extra tickets for Garth Brooks on sale today for this weekend's show. KXNT reports that the tickets are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and only two tickets can be sold per person. The shows are Friday, Saturday and Sunday with a second show on Saturday night at 10:30pm. Visit or call the Wynn Box Office at 702-770-1000 to purchase.
Tickets will also be available on the day of the concert with lines starting at the Box Office at 6pm. These are for returned or unclaimed tickets. Also, we once attended the 10:30pm Saturday show and Garth definitely ran over by quite a bit. So if you want more Garth, you may want the later show.

The High-Low Appeal of Garth Brooks at The Encore
After we took this photo, Purple People yelled at us.
If you find yourself strolling around the Wynn and Encore properties these days, chances are the one and only song you will hearing blaring from the Wynn's outdoor speakers is "Friends in Low Places." And yes, that's because country superstar Garth Brooks has officially kicked off his semi-permanent residency here. (Wynn might be playing his other songs but the four different times we were outside the hotel, it was that ultimate bar crowd pleaser playing.)
We were invited along with several other Vegas media folk to attend the 10:30pm showing of Garth's concert on Saturday night, his second night in town.
With tickets at a healthy rate of $143 (including tax) for any and all seats, front row or back row, we're here to tell you exactly what you're gonna get. Well, not exactly since Garth might be taking different requests when you go. Yes, he takes requests.

Garth Brooks Swag Already Looking Fancier Than Most
Garth Brooks comes out of retirement tonight for his first concert at the Encore Theater. We hope some of you were lucky enough to get tickets (even day of tickets too) but if you aren't, you can always pick up some Garth Brooks swag just outside the theater which is daintily modeled by a hand mannequin. There you can find the obligatory concert swag like keychains, CDs, and t-shirts. But we're still waiting for a black cowboy hat that has Wynn written on it.
Here's what else is on in Vegas:
· Haze at Aria to have a $25,000 drink (that no one will ever buy) [San Fran Chronicle]
· M Resort to light gigantic Xmas tree tomorrow [M Resort]
· CityCenter's own fire station has opened [We Do it All Vegas]
· Don't Forget about BB King! His blues club opens in The Mirage tonight [VegasDeluxe]
Another pic of Garth swag after the jump.

How to Get Garth Brooks Tickets for Friday (But Also, Be Realistic)
So the big day is getting near--Garth Brooks first concert at the Encore Theater. Yes, tickets for his first batch of concerts have been sold-out since the end of October. But all hope is not lost.
There reportedly are some tickets available due to ticket cancellations and the discovery that some tickets belonged to scalpers and other unscrupulous folks., etc.
Ok, let's be clear here: your chances of getting Garth tickets for this weekend are SLIM TO NONE. But if you feel the "thunder roll" and you know that you've got "friends in low places" working magic behind the ticket booths and that God will not leave you with this "unanswered prayer" and that "somewhere other than the night", these Garth tickets were meant to be yours, there is a way to try.

Taste of Wynn Has Closed To Make Way For Garth Swag

Thanks to the tweets of Two Way Hard Three's Hunter, we were tipped off that Taste of Wynn inside Encore has closed.
How could this be? The retail shop devoted to all things culinary at Wynn and Encore had just opened on October 1. Well, the official word is that the shop closed to make room for an entertainment store that will feature merchandise from Le Rêve, the property's nightclubs and the forthcoming Garth Brooks concerts. A rep for Encore tells us:
Given the proximity to the theaters, this made the most sense. The Taste of Wynn store was a great success and we intend to relocate the concept to Wynn LVNV in the near future. We will continue to explore other opportunities for Taste of Wynn at both properties.
In the meantime, you can buy your Wynn/Encore-branded goodies at not only Wynn LVNV, but at the XS store (while it's still around) and either one of the Wynn/Encore sundries stores. But may we suggest skipping the purchase of an Encore t-shirt and taking a chance on the tables instead? This is Vegas. You're supposed to "risk it all!" not come home with a hotel-branded t-shirt.

As Predicted, Garth Brooks Sells Out The Encore

If you weren't up at 8am on Saturday to buy your tickets to Garth Brooks for his first five weekend shows at Encore, then you probably didn't get squat. Wynn Las Vegas said the shows were sold out by 1pm. Is it too soon to call Garth the savior of Vegas? Probably, yeah but if he can replicate these numbers for every weekend show, then we may change our position. The LV Sun writes:
During the course of the day, Wynn Las Vegas’ box office Web site received more than 5.4 million page views. The resort took more that 140,000 calls for tickets and had 40,000 people waiting for tickets in the online queue at any given moment.
Your only hope of getting tickets for this first batch of shows--Dec. 11-13, Jan. 1-3 and 22-24, Feb. 12-14 and 26-28--is picking up returned or unclaimed tickets. The price will still stand at $125. Or you could hit up eBay for two tickets at $460 on January 23. Hmmm...yeah, we're gonna pass on that offer.
UPDATE: Word on The Strip is that Wynncore may void tix that were bought for over $143 (the total ticket price after taxes.)

Garth Brooks Confirms Vegas Dates; Steve Wynn Wears Cowboy Boots

Earlier today, Garth Brooks and Steve Wynn were on a stage in Western gear confirming Garth Brook's new gig at the Encore Theater. The show will run for 16 weeks, starting in December and Garth will be doing this sort of weekend stint for the next five years.
The Kats Report says specific dates for the first batch of shows are Dec. 11-13, Jan. 1-3, Jan. 22-24, Feb. 12-14 and Feb. 26-28. Show times start at 8pm, with a second show on Saturdays at 10:30pm. Prices for all seats will be $125 but there will be no "tiered" ticket pricing.
To which we say, WTF? We pay $125 even for the worst seats in the house? Hmm...we bet there's gotta be a way around that. Tickets go on sale October 24. And that's the biggest news in Vegas today. Here's what else is on:
· CityCenter's Aria will get a fantastic looking sculpture designed to make us think about our water consumption. [LV Sun]
· Tweens of drinking age can party with the Twilight vampires at the TAO Halloween Bash [Jaunted]
· Versace opens in Caesars Palace [Twitter]

Steve Wynn Has 'Friends in Low Places': Garth Brooks Set to Perform in January 2010

According to Robin Leach's Twitter, Garth Brooks will be coming out of semi-retirement to do 16 weeks of shows, starting in January 2010 at the Danny Gans Theater at Encore.
There have been rumors circulating for a while that the country crooner would take up Steve Wynn on his offer but it looks like Garth will confirm it himself tomorrow at noon.
Whatever your feelings on country music (we happen to like it), Garth Brooks will be a great addition to the Strip. He's not too ancient, he's not too cheesy (yeah, Barry we're talking to you) and he's not the kind of performer that we have to do a post about with the title, Who Is?. He's also the kind of act that men and women can both comfortably attend together. We love Cher and Bette but they can be a hard sell for straight men.
Lastly, we're guessing Garth will command a high ticket price. Maybe nothing like Beyonce but something akin to the folks who play at Caesars Palace. Robin Leach even expects the shows to sell-out quickly. In this case, we hope "one of god's greatest gifts is" our answered prayers for Garth tickets.
