Rock ‘n’ Roll Designer John Varvatos Now Open at…Where Else?

John Varvatos, who repurposed the old NYC CBGBs for his eponymous store in that city’s Bowery District, has just opened a new, 3,000-square-foot store at the Hard Rock Hotel.

According to DDimagazine, the new store is inspired by Varvatos Bowery NYC store and will include a stage for live concerts, a 30-foot-long video screen to show “iconic rock videos” and a seriously rock ‘n’ roll palette of blackened steel, oxblood-painted wood, smoky mirrors, vintage chandeliers and industrial stage lights.

The Hard Rock's Paradise Tower Disappoints a Longtime Hard Rock Devotee

It officially opened almost a month ago (July 31), so we thought we’d check in on what the rest of you have to say about the Hard Rock’s new Paradise Tower rooms.

There’s not much yet posted on TripAdvisor to report about the new rooms. But here’s one perspective from a longtime HRH devotee who stayed at the Paradise Tower soon after its opening:

The room was small, the shower was designed so bad that I was shocked at how hard I had to work to get in the thing and get the water turned on. Back in the day when Peter owned the place they understood customer service, those days are over. I am a 23 year music industry vet. I can tell you that the hip kids are staying at the Wynn.

Ouch.

A Week In Concerts: Vegas' Live Music Scene Heating Up Again

Vegas' concert scene died down over the last few years, only to emerge bigger, better, louder, but most importantly: diverse. The openings of venues like Beauty Bar and Hard Rock Hotel's three-venue split, along with more shows in clubs at the Palms for hip hop acts? Vegas is suddenly becoming a hot live music destination again, and not just for big ticket Baby Boomer acts (Streisand, Midler, et al) Bookers are noticing, too: they're touring their acts in Vegas en masse; a look at one week's schedule? Insane.
