Time and Money Makes Harrah's Total Rewards Work (Best) For You

November 24, 2009 at 2:01 PM | by globetrotting gourmet | 0 Comments

We had oodles of questions last week when we wrote about Harrah’s Total Rewards Program, but our dear, smarty-pants readers helped tremendously in explaining how the program works. Here a few of the insights some of you shared:

CC Royal said:

“I use my Total Rewards points for shopping all the time and not for "cheap" stuff, by the way. Since my room is always comped and I usually choose to eat at places other than those offered at Harrah's properties, I don’t use up a lot of points during my casino stays. Instead, I watch the monthly specials in the Total Rewards merchandise catalog and cash in when it’s something I want/need. So far this year I've gotten a 16G iPod, a KitchenAid Artisan stand mixer and a Sony digital camera.”

Harrah's Total Rewards Is Killing Us With the Small Print

November 17, 2009 at 4:12 PM | by globetrotting gourmet | 6 Comments

Even when we’re losing next month’s credit card payment in Las Vegas, we still like to think we’re getting a little kickback of some sort for our wallet-draining efforts. That’s where Harrah’s Total Rewards comes in. We think. We’re a college educated professional, but despite our best efforts to decipher the never-ending online links and lists of rules and restriction of this program, still couldn’t make heads or tails of certain details.

We hope that’s where our dear, gambling savvy readers come in to shed some light.

Here’s how (we think) it works: Swing by the Total Rewards Center at any one of your eight favorite Harrah’s casino and sign up for free membership. To rake in Reward Credits, slide your Total Rewards card into any reel or video poker machine, where you will earn one (1) Tier Credit for each $5 you play on reel machines and $10 for video poker. (Extra comps may be awarded determined by your play throughout the day and are based on type of game, length of play and average bet.)

You can earn rewards for table play too – just remember to fork over that magic plastic card before you settle in for the betting long haul, although the logistics on table play earning potentials are kind of fuzzy. You can also earn Reward Credits on every entertainment dollar spent at Harrah’s properties. Of course, you can.

The Aussie Boys of 'Human Nature' Are Singing Motown Hits at The Imperial Palace

Where: 3535 Las Vegas Boulevard South [map], 89109

Where does one of Australia’s top-selling musical groups go when they want to make their Entertainment Capital of the World debut? Evidently, to Vegas’ Imperial Palace.

VegasChatter was a guest at last night’s opening night premiere of "Human Nature – The Ultimate Celebration of Motown" at the IP. After considerable amounts of dancing in the aisles (by the performers and the audience), it looks like the red-headed stepchild in the Harrah’s Entertainment family of Vegas resorts has a crowd-pleaser on its hands.

Produced by Smokey Robinson, who came on stage to sing the praises of the four boys from Sydney, Human Nature specializes in 60s and 70s Motown classics by everyone from Robinson himself to Marvin Gaye to The Supremes. (Supremes vocalist Mary Wilson was in the house last night, too.) Their a cappella version of Robinson’s "Ooo Baby Baby" brought the house down and "My Girl" turned into a theatre-wide singalong.
