There isn’t much that excites this writer than the prospect of finding a great new steak. That steak may be located on the Vegas Strip in a fancy steakhouse or in Downtown Vegas at a regular restaurant that may be as famous for their chicken parmigiana as their steak.

Even before Heritage Steakhad a name, my excitement was high for a new restaurant from Tom Colicchio. Then, Colicchio tweeted with us and things got a little swoony. Eager as I was to try Heritage Steak, it took me a while to get to The Mirage. But, a couple of beers into a conversation and a check of the OpenTable app and I had a reservation. Turns out that was a good thing:

At The Mirage, Heritage Steak Arrives, And So Has Its Menu

After hearing it straight from Tom Colicchio's mouth Twitter account, the date has arrived. The top chef's second Vegas restaurant, Heritage Steak, opens tonight at The Mirage.

The renovated Kokomo's space continues to feature views of the resort's verdant atrium, but its entrance has been changed, moving from off the lobby to off the casino floor. Kokomo's lobby bar is still there, dubbed now just Lobby Bar, but it no longer allows entry into the restaurant. A solid black wall blocks it completely from view. Heritage Steak offers another bar of its own, located close to Japonais where its entrance can now be found.

Oh, You Know.. Just Tweeting About Steak With Tom Colicchio

August 2, 2013 at 10:29 PM | by | Comments (2)

We've been trying to wait patiently for the opening of Top Chef Tom Colicchio's second Vegas outpost, Heritage Steak at The Mirage, but that's not really one of our strong points.

A once hoped for July debut was pushed back to August, but August when? And, would that just be bumped to September instead? With anticipation killing us, we took a shot in the dark by tweeting up the man himself:

Of course, we didn't really expect to receive a tweet back. Especially after almost a whole day went by. But, then something amazing happened:

The Mirage Announces An Opening Month For Heritage Steak

The Mirage closed Kokomo's to make way for a Tom Colicchio steakhouse back in January, but only attached a vague "summer" opening to its debut.

Now, two months later, the resort is feeling a bit more confident about discussing the expected launch of Heritage Steak:

Five Quickie Snapshot Updates From Around The Strip

February 20, 2013 at 11:13 PM | by | Comments (2)

A failed trip to check out the new Citizens Kitchen at Mandalay Bay for breakfast didn't satisfy our hunger (we ended up at Raffles Cafe, sad face), but it did provide us with several new updates to share. The first we learned the hard way -- the newly opened, 24/7 Citizens turns away new guests for about 45-60 minutes between breakfast and lunch service. You can probably guess what time we happened to arrive. A rep says they're working out some transitional kinks in the kitchen and hope to eliminate that closure within the next few weeks. Until then, stay away from around 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

After breakfast, we journeyed down The Strip and made the following discoveries:

Rollin' with the homies... by Hakkasan.

Hakkasan, that five-story restaurant-slash-lounge-slash-nightclub coming to MGM Grand, still won't say when it's opening exactly, but there's at least a sign for it now. And, some patterned ironwork. And, a big a** video screen.

Tom Colicchio's Restaurant At Mirage Gets A Name

January 15, 2013 at 5:11 PM | by | Comments (2)

Kokomo's now klosed.

The Mirage is down two restaurants these days with the closure of BB King's back in November and Kokomo's just this past weekend. There's still no announced plans for the former, but the latter, just-off-the-lobby eatery has already been claimed by celebrity chef Tom Colicchio.

The new experience will be a steakhouse (Colicchio's second in Vegas after Craftsteak at MGM Grand), but had been unnamed. Today, that changed when the resort announced the coming venture as Tom Colicchio's Heritage Steak. Look for it to make its debut this summer.
