Vegas News Briefs: What Happened at EDC, Will End Up on 'Missed Connections'

There's so much going on in Vegas, we can't get to all of it so here's a nifty news round-up for you instead. Enjoy!

· Inside Look at What Went Wrong with KA: "In 2012, in Las Vegas alone, 53 performers in Cirque shows were injured, causing a total of 918 missed workdays. (Many more minor injuries are not required to be reported to the government.)" (Vanity Fair)

· EDC is Too Expensive: “Everything is too expensive. Everything. A margarita costs $18. That is too much for a margarita. Hats are $30.” (Las Vegas Sun)

· EDC is Also Dangerous: "A 24-year-old man died at the Electric Daisy Carnival overnight Saturday, police say. Of 408 medical calls reported from day two of the three-day carnival, seven people were transported to area hospitals and one person died just before 4 a.m., Metro wrote in a statistical summary Sunday morning." · WTF: Walter White Was at EDC?: "Bryan Cranston appeared at the Electric Daisy Carnival dance music festival in Las Vegas during a set by British trance group Above & Beyond." People)

· NHL in Vegas, For Good? : " It feels like a safe bet that the NHL will become the first major professional sports league to plant a franchise in Las Vegas." (Las Vegas Sun)

· And just because, this "Missed Connection" from EDC:

"I met you EDC 2015 day 3, Kinetic field, on the left side, right before Calvin Harris. You asked if you could get on the side rail to use your GoPro. I refused at first and told you I would lose my spot if I did. Even though I refused to allow you entrance onto the side rail, you were the only person in 3 days who PLUR'd me. Regardless if I were to lose my spot or notou weren't rolling, and I told you I had just popped one, but hasn't hit me yet. KA's Battle Scene Returns A Year And A Half After Tragic Accident

Yesterday, emotions were high in the KA Theater at MGM Grand, but the energy was even higher. At a press preview of the newly reworked “battle scene” from the well-loved Cirque du Soleil production, minds were on the events of a year and a half ago when artist Sarah Guyard-Guillot fell to her death during a performance when the cable attached to her safety harness came out of its track and was severed.

In the wake of the tragedy, Cirque officials worked with OSHA and two independent groups to analyze exactly what happened. They then met with their artists who wanted to honor Guyard-Guillot’s legacy and the integral scene in the storyline of their show by bringing back the epic battle.

Pulled After Deadly Fall, KA Reintroducing Final Battle Scene

In June 2013, Cirque artist Sarah Guillot-Guyard died after a tragic fall during KA's ending battle scene. Due to safety concerns, the act was replaced with another number. Now, Cirque du Soleil officials have announced it will return.

KA Returns

After the loss of one of their own in a tragic fall, the artists of KA by Cirque du Soleil will return to the stage tomorrow, July 16 at MGM Grand.

31-year old Sarah Guyard died after plummeting 50 to 100 feet during the production's climatic battle scene on June 29. The show was immediately suspended. Cirque has now announced that battle scene will be removed and that a new act has been added.

An official investigation into just what happened is still underway.

KA Dark Through At Least July 16

After a horrifying fall claimed the life of a KA performer on June 29, we're learning the production will continue to remain dark for now.

VegasChatter fan Brian W. reports that ticket holders are being told the show will now be cancelled through July 16, if not longer. Purchasers are being offered either a refund or assistance in booking another Cirque performance (if available). If you have KA tickets for July and have a concern, contact MGM Grand at 1.800.929.1111.

Cirque Mourns, KA Suspended After Tragic Fall

The beautiful fantasies of Cirque transformed into the stark reality of the dangers its artists face in an instant over the weekend after an artist in KA plummeted a reported 50 feet as audience members looked on.

News outlets state that 31-year old Sarah Guyard fell from the stage near the climax of Saturday night's second performance at MGM Grand. Several attendees tweeted their concern after the show abruptly halted and crowds were asked to leave as screams and groans could be heard from the stage:

KĄ Goes From Stage To Comic Book Page

Their performers may defy gravity like super-heroes, but now Cirque du Soleil legitimately belongs alongside Spider-man and the Fantastic Four. Cirque has teamed with Marvel Comics to produce a comic book based on . During Cirque Week we were introduced to the production team of a proposed four-issue series. The story honors the exact plot of the MGM Grand show and, if you've heard that Cirque don't always make sense, you certainly can't say that about the hero's journey of KĄ.

Cirque Du Soliel Makes A Movie

Zarkana is Cirque du Soleil's latest spectacle, but for fans wanting more Cirky Cirky and who can't wait for the King of Pop's Immortal tribute or those that just can't make it to Vegas soon enough, there's another opportunity to get soaked in Soleil right around the corner.

On December 21, the folks behind KA, LOVE Viva Elvis and now Zarkana make the jump from stage to screen in a 3D spectacular movie. Because anything less than 3D just wouldn't be spectacular enough. Cirque brass has teamed up with the makers of Avatar and The Chronicles of Narnia (this one, not that one) to create Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away 3D.

Go KA-razy in NYC So You Don't Have To Spend The Cash Here

The Cirque du Soleil show you usually don't hear much about is taking over New York City. (Ok, maybe not permanently and just seven of the cast members including the 'twins' above.)

KA, which can normally be seen at MGM Grand, will help ring in Chinese New Year in NYC. Broadway World reports that KA performers will take part in Chinatown's Lunar New Year Parade February 6.

If you're in the Big Apple that day, and obvi not planning to watch the Big Game, you can catch their performance at 2:30 p.m. EST at Sarah Roosevelt Park, scratching the show off your Vegas to-do list and saving some cash, too.
