Whip Your Face Into Shape with The Ritz's Holiday Boot Camp

Some people manage to get up every day and run, pull together the perfect outfit and have their hair and make up look red carpet ready – all before their first cup of coffee. That takes a kind of discipline that somehow escaped us in the discipline-making process (though we managed to become proficient at the will power necessary to try out every new Ben & Jerry’s flavor).

In the confines of our house, we can find 101 activities that we'd rather do than sweat or spend time in front of the mirror.

Needless to say, we’re probably the ideal candidate for the Beauty Workout Holiday Boot Camp at The Ritz-Carlton Spa, Lake Las Vegas . We can get glam when necessary, but throw us into a Sephora-like dynamic and our brow furrows with a lack of beauty know how.

We like the Las Vegas Sun's comprehensive blog roundup of some Labor Day weekend festivities you might want to check out. Here are some highlights:

On Sunday, the M Resort is having a poolside, end-of-summer food festival consisting of American and Mexican food, barbecue, a watermelon-eating contest and a fresh lemonade stand. Admission is free and it runs from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Also on Sunday, Lake Las Vegas’ Sonrisa Grill is hosting a Margarita Festival. A $20 admission allows you to taste up to 30 margaritas and vote for your favorite tequila-tainted concoction. The potential for widespread mayhem starts at 4 p.m. and goes until 7 p.m.

Take a Laid-Back Trip to Lake Las Vegas

Where: 30 Strada Di Villaggio, Henderson [map], 89011

Through September 11, Montelago Village Resort is offering one night in its Luna di Lusso Studio Condo accommodations, plus dinner for two at the lakefront Sunset & Vines restaurant – our personal fave at Lake Las Vegas – for prices beginning at $204.

A word about Lake Las Vegas: it’s a bit of a trek (20 minutes or so) east of the Strip, and would probably be a way more popular regional getaway destination if it didn’t have dazzling Las Vegas as its competition. Turns out people who come to Vegas aren’t so much looking for a tranquil, lakeside resort experience – they’re here to do the Vegas thing and that’s that.

So, it’s had its fits and starts since it opened nearly a decade ago. But, there are some great deals to be had and if you’re a frequent Vegas visitor, it’s a must-see on at least one of your regular excurions here.

You Go, Girlfriend, Right On Over To Loews Lake Las Vegas

Where: 101 Montelago Blvd. Henderson, NV [map], 89011
July 7, 2009 at 3:28 PM | by jaymi | 0 Comments

The news at Lake Las Vegas has been less than unpleasant over the past year or so. The developer defaulted on more than half a billion dollars in loans last year and lost the property, only to have the new owners file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

The Ritz-Carlton filed for bankruptcy in a last-ditch effort to avoid foreclosure, and the hotel was ultimately sold. Back in January, the Lake Las Vegas resort won the right to all but abandon one of its upscale golf courses. And let's not even get into the home situation in the area, except to say that what was once billed as an upscale European hamlet fit for the Kings and Queens of Vegas is now deserted, its charges dethroned.

The area remains wondrously royal, however. A glorious, stunning, if over-the-top recreation of an Italian village surrounding a purrrrdy blue lake—one that you can enjoy by taking advantage of Loews Lake Las Vegas Resort’s “Recessionista Diva Package.”

We're not exactly sure why Loews doesn't think men will want to visit; we think the hotel and its environs are among the most romantic of spots in all of Vegas/Vegas adjacent. Nonetheless, the package offers "girlfriends" a one-night stay in luxury accommodations, with use of a poolside cabana featuring a flat screen TV (for free!), and a $50 food and beverage credit, with prices beginning from $189.

Said "girlfriends" will also get a complimentary bonus service (a Moulay Buff, wax, manicure, or blow-dry featuring Aveda products) at the hotel's Spa Moulay, with a Swedish Massage or Holistic Facial. And, to top it off, drinks are 2-for-1 throughout the entire stay.

Just remember, girlfriends, not to imbibe so much that you end up in the lake.

Live Like Moroccan Royalty in The Casbah Suite

If the idea of water features in Las Vegas conjures up visions of the Bellagio fountains and swim-up gambling tables, maybe it’s time to check out Lake Las Vegas.

We’ve written about it before – it’s the master-planned resort and residential community on a man-made lake about 30 minutes east of Vegas in nearby Henderson. Home to a Ritz-Carlton, the Montelago Village Resort and Loews Lake Las Vegas, it’s a destination for the classier breed of business meetings, as well as Las Vegas locals looking for a change of scenery.

Three Reasons Why You Should Stay Off The Strip

April 14, 2009 at 11:56 AM | by jaymi | 0 Comments

Of course you come to Vegas to stay on The Strip. The casinos. The shows. The four-block taxi ride that takes 20 minutes and costs 20 bucks. If you can’t imagine why anyone would give that up to stay off Strip, let us enlighten you with three good reasons--serenity, serendipity and The Station Casinos.

Get Lucky on a Gondola Dinner Cruise

March 30, 2009 at 11:16 PM | by Erika Pope | 0 Comments

Let’s be honest. Not everyone’s idea of romance involves hopping a spur-of-the-moment flight to Vegas and getting hitched by an Elvis impersonator. But the shotgun wedding capital of the world does offer its fair share – more, even – of perfectly romantic options for the more traditional among us.

There is a reason, after all, why Las Vegas is also a quintessential honeymoon destination: couples can canoodle atop a half-scale Eiffel Tower, take a romantic stroll along Lake Bellagio, enjoy a gondola ride along replica Venetian canals or indulge in a mutual adrenaline rush on any of the thrill rides on top of the Stratosphere tower.

For a truly idyllic and intimate romantic setting, however, it’s hard to beat the gondola dinner cruise for two at Lake Las Vegas, 25 minutes east of the Strip. Absent are the brightly-colored, chlorinated waters of the Venetian’s canal system and throngs of gawking tourists. Instead, you and your sweetie are likely to have the entire man-made, scenic Lake Las Vegas to yourself.
