Coupons, Yes, But A Box Office That's Still Charging $53: Why That Doesn't Make Mental A Free Show

The saga continues...

OK-so. After we pointed out yesterday that Mental is not a free show, as the people behind it have been saying, Anthony Cools tweeted us to say that in order to get your free ticket, there are two sexy school girls standing at the entrance to O’Sheas, handing out coupons to everyone who walks in between 6-8pm, when the show starts.

Obviously, we had to go check this out. We swung by at 7pm to find a girl dressed like an extra in Dr Zhivago handing out coupons for Matsuri (free buffet if you buy a VIP ticket, wotevs) and Vinnie Favorito (2-for-1). No sign of schoolgirls, sexy or otherwise.

Mental's Newest 'Trick' is to Mislead You About Free Show Tix

File this under "Nothing, we repeat nothing, is free in Vegas."

UPDATE 3pm: Anthony Cools has twittered us saying that there are two schoolgirls at the door of the casino handing out coupons to everyone who walks in. Anyone seen this? Let us know. Still doesn't make it a free show though

If there’s one thing we hate, hate, hate, it’s when the good guys let us down. So this morning we’re fuming in two directions - at O’Sheas, and at hypnotist Anthony Cools.

We’ve always been fans of both. We’ve shown love to O’Sheas despite having once had someone vomit over our seat when we made a quick bathroom trip. We also think Anthony Cools’ show is v funny, and he has a talent for bringing other shows to the Strip that we have also loved, like Mental and our much-lamented Freaks.

Mental Goes Free, And You'd Be Mental Not To See It

Looks like everyone’s favorite tattooed English mindreader on the Strip Luke Jermay is trying to confuse us. First there was the announcement of his new show, Dirty Thoughts. Then Anthony Cools, who produces the show, kept tweeting about big changes to Mental, but every time we asked the O’Sheas O’Sheas lot, they professed total ignorance.

Anyway, now we know what the change was – and it’s a good one. Instead of charging $49 for tickets, it’s now free. Yes – an hour of a brilliant show (that we’ve been saying that you should go see since August, as it happens) for free.

Luke Jermay's New Show Will Expose Your Dirty Thoughts

More Brits taking over Vegas news: if you believe Twitter, Essex boy and mindreader Luke Jermay is starting a new show in addition to Mental. This one is still at O’Sheas, and it’s more of the mindreading, except of a slightly more x-rated nature.

According to Jermay’s promoter, the original filthy hypnotist Anthony Cools, It’s called Dirty Thoughts and started on Wednesday at 8.30pm. And, as you’d expect from the name, the show consists of Jermay doing “x-rated mindreading.”

This Man Will Actually Read Your Mind (We Think.)

So you’re in Vegas. You want to see some magic. But you don’t want to get landed with a cheesefest like Xtreme Magic and you’d rather tweeze your own fingernails out than spend money on Criss Angel. What to do?

May we suggest you try a slightly different kind of magic, courtesy of Mr Luke Jermay over at O’Sheas? Mental, his show, has no rabbits out of hats or prancing tigers or show-stealing acrobats. It just has an hour of so-good-I’m-actually-quite-spooked mindreading. Yup, good old-fashioned mindreading.

Jermay’s totally different from what you’d expect from a Vegas performer (from London, not brash, a kind of humble stage presence) but don’t let that put you off. Likewise, the special effects are reduced to a couple of swirly lights and confetti that he sprinkles when he’s taking a while to read minds. Don’t worry though – it just makes the magic stuff even more insane.
