We Know Exactly What Your Favorite Cocktail Is Missing: Bacon

If you strive to add a little dare and novelty to your Las Vegas visits, may we suggest adding something extra to your adult beverage: bacon. Sure, it's been done before, but at Lynyrd Skynyrd BBQ & Beer in Excalibur, we discovered a little bit of surprising thought was enlisted in the process.
VegascChatter's own Mr Pappagiorgio has tried and chronicled the bacon elements of the Bloody Mary at I Love Burgers at the Palazzo. Away from The Strip, the Double Down Saloon flaunts their original invention, the bacon martini, rooted in bacon-infused vodka and they include an actual piece of bacon, too.

Where Jagermeister Is The House Wine

Gilley's has been a staple in Las Vegas as long as we've known Las Vegas existed (actually, much longer). Our friends visited the original location at The New Frontier and would preach to us how awesome the country bar was. With "Cold Beer and Dirty Girls" promoted on the original marquee how could Gilley's be bad? If the food isn't very good, we should be entertained. In addition to being a bar, Gilley's was/is a restaurant. The current incarnation of the restaurant is a BBQ joint which, until Lynyrd Skynyrd opened their restaurant at Excalibur a couple weeks ago, was the only BBQ joint on The Strip that this VegasChatter member knew about.
Gilley's was exactly what we expected when we finally made it there albeit to the new joint at Treasure Island. Just about everything we've heard about Gilley's has given us the feeling that we'd be in for something less than the original bar and saloon, which we were totally cool with. Having nothing to compare our experience with, we went into dinner and drinks with an open mind.

Lynyrd Skynyrd Delivers Babes And Booze. Can They Bring The BBQ?
As we exclusively guessed months ago, Lynyrd Skynyrd BBQ & Beer opened right on time at Excalibur last week with multiple nightly celebrations, an eat n greet, and a private concert. We dropped in for a mid-week VIP party to check out the digs, scope out the menu, and take a stab at some BBQ.
The restaurant is laid out drinks to the left, food to the right, with a small intimate stage and dance floor in the middle surrounded by concrete floors, barnyard wood walls, Skynyrd memorabilia, music and videos. Two bars serve up whiskey shots, pretty decent drinks (more on those in a sec), and beer served by bartenders in tank tops and jorts daisy dukes.

Lynyrd Skynyrd Offers Fans Chance To Eat n' Greet

So, apparently our report that Lynyrd Skynyrd BBQ will open (between) December 1 (and December 10) was pretty darn spot on. An official announcement sets the weeklong grand opening as December 1-8 at Excalibur.
You'll have the chance to make a Free Bird joke to the icons themselves during a fan "eat n' greet" on December 8. The guys will perform an intimate concert that night as well. You can get into both for $750. (Get some of it back by trying to eat your weight in meat.) Or, just go to the concert for $300 rib bones. And, before you ask, there isn't a way to go to just the eat n' greet.

Lynyrd Skynyrd To Rock The Casino Floor, Too

Lynyrd Skynyrd is just over a month away from rockin' (we hope) the Las Vegas BBQ scene and when it does, it looks like we'll be able to rock the gaming floor, too.
We popped into Excalibur over the weekend and found a handful of Lynyrd Skynyrd-branded roulette and poker tables just steps away from where the restaurant will be located.
As we speculated last week, the resto's Facebook page now confirms that its opening will take place the first week of December.

It's BYOB On The Strip This New Year's Eve
Just last week we were admiring the Palazzo for planning to celebrate Thanksgiving like the pilgrims did. We were in the midst of looking for our giant buckled shoes when an original option to celebrate the same, old tired annual tradition of ringing in the new year came our way. Sometimes unique puts the party in party-time. This probably isn't one of those times.
New Year's Eve on the Strip is huge. Lots of people, lot of parties. Even fancy fireworks. This NYE offers a party on the move for those that are tired of standing around waiting for the show, like to bar hop, and we'll even say the active, healthy types. It's a BYOB party. As in Bring Your Own Bike.

Lynyrd Skynyrd BBQ to Open (Between) December 1 (and December 10)

No word on if free (range) bird is on the menu, but we have a good idea now of when we can see Lynyrd Skynyrd's sweet home in Excalibur.
The BBQ joint's Twitter account says it "will be kicking off grand opening week with National Finals Rodeo." A quick check of this year's dates for NFR found it will mosey into town December 1-10. Sounds like December 3 could provide quite a memorable Saturday Night Special for BBQ lovers.

Excalibur Is About To Give Us As Much Meat As We Can Handle

No, the headline isn't a reference to Thunder From Down Under, altho now that we think about it... but, we digress.
If you weren't excited before about Lynyrd Skynyrd's upcoming BBQ joint at Excalibur (and already throwing out your best Freebird jokes), wait until you see this -

"we will have a meat station where you can weigh it and pay it... some things are just too cool!"
Yes, that's right, why should all those froyo joints have all the per ounce fun? When the Lynyrd Skynyrd restaurant opens its doors this December we'll finally be able to decide just how much meat we can handle in Vegas. That sounded dirty, didn't it? Good, it was meant that way.

Lynyrd Skynyrd To Rock Vegas' BBQ Scene

Does classic rock and BBQ sound like a good combo? Well, that's about to happen as Lynyrd Skynyrd plans to open a restaurant in Excalibur Hotel. Singer Johnny Van Zandt spoke to VH1 Classic and explained the band’s plans, saying:
“It’s called Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Barbecue and Beer. It ought to be a lot of fun. We took a lot of stuff like from the Hell House because that’s where the band really made their chops out there in Green Cove Springs, Florida, they called it the Hell House and pretty neat thing there so there will be a section there and some different memorabilia and we’re going to go out and play a couple times a year. It ought to be a neat thing to do.”

Sandbar Summer Concerts Wrap Up at Red Rock This Weekend

Even though Labor Day is behind us, the official end of summer isn’t until later this month. Here in Vegas, the weather’s still fine until well into October at least and outdoor concerts are still a winning proposition for an evening’s entertainment under the stars.
Red Rock Resort’s Sandbar summer concert series wraps up next weekend with an exercise in contrasts: John Legend is performing on Friday, September 18, and southern-fried rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd are doing their thang on Saturday, September 19.
