Jeremy Shockey Gets Knocked Out by Rehab at the Hard Rock

May 26, 2009 at 1:55 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Rehab at the Hard Rock, the hotel's seasonal Sunday pool party, has a tongue-in-cheek name but the truth is, many folks partying here might actually be in need of the real rehab.

New Orleans Saints football star Jeremy Shockey collapsed at the pool yesterday, due to "dehydration." He was taken out of the area on a stretcher and then to the hospital. His reps say he will be "fine." Even more embarrassing than a big man falling down in public, the entire thing was caught on tape. Hit up TMZ for all the photos and video. And you'll notice that not even Jeremy Shockey going down can stop the party from partying on.

Meanwhile, over at Encore an audience member at Whoopi Goldberg's show inside the Danny Gans Theater collapsed due to a seizure, forcing Whoopi to shut the show down early so the man could be properly assisted. What happens in Vegas during a holiday weekend, might be too much for some to take.

May 22, 2009 at 6:56 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

In addition, Southwest will let these special passengers board after business select and deplane first. So if you're flying Southwest to or from Las Vegas on Monday, don't get all huffy when you see some extra folk queuing up after business select.

VegasChatter will be honoring all the men and women who have served for our country by taking the day off from publishing. But that doesn't mean we won't be spying on all the action in town. Let us know how your weekend in Vegas is going by become a VegasChatter member and submitting your Vegas observations. We love getting photos too so email them to us if you got some good ones. You can also follow us on Twitter.

While we know nudity happens on The Strip, please keep those Twitpic stripteases to a minimum. See you on Tuesday!

Kick Off The Unofficial Start of Summer at These Memorial Day Parties

May 22, 2009 at 12:04 PM | by Erika Pope | 0 Comments

The pool at The Rio

Memorial Day Weekend is a popular weekend in Vegas – but then nearly every weekend equates to a quarter-million-plus tourists swarming the landscape and myriad reasons to party at the city’s various nightspots. We scoured the calendars for the next three days, though, and came up with a few especially eye-catching ways to celebrate summer’s official kickoff in Vegas:

VooDoo Lounge atop the Rio will be the site of the next Girls Gone Wild “hottest girl search” tonight. Guys, yer welcome. Ladies, you can’t say we didn’t warn you – and if wonton exhibitionism isn’t your thing, you might want to go easy on the poolside mojitos for the rest of the day. The debauchery begins at 10 p.m. and goes until midnight.

Where: 3950 Las Vegas Blvd S, [map], 89119
May 20, 2009 at 12:21 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

[UPDATE: The Beach Boys package is no longer available. Rooms are still open at the Mandalay Bay starting at $189. The Beach Boys tickets are $47 each.]

Yesterday, we told you that the Trump Las Vegas would be a good place to spend Memorial Day Weekend. The rates were just $199 a night for the hotel's all-suite accommodations which include kitchenettes, living rooms and one and a half baths. But does it have The Beach Boys?

No. To see The Beach Boys in concert you have to head over to the Mandalay Bay. Concert tickets are complimentary when you splurge for a room at the hotel. Use offer code PHMEM09-PG to book online or by calling 877.632.7800.

The promotion is only available from May 22 to 27th and The Beach Boys are performing on the 23rd and the 24th. Deluxe room rates start at $119 a night. Tickets for the concert (without booking a room) begin at $47 a piece.

Trump Might be the Best Deal in Town for Memorial Day

There are most definitely still rooms available in Vegas for Memorial Day Weekend, and in case you’ve not been paying attention, that’s a mere three days away.

Based on a cursory search for last-minute deals on Expedia, average prices on the Strip for the three-night stretch from Friday to Monday range from $83 per night (Sahara) all the way up to $372 (Wynn).

Some interesting notes: Planet Hollywood’s three-night average of $252 is actually $10 higher than the Venetian’s, which suggests intriguing things about shifting desirability factors on the Strip.

Fremont Street To Relive the Summer of ’69

Where: Fremont Street [map], 89101
May 12, 2009 at 7:36 PM | by VegasMichaelT | 0 Comments

Downtown Las Vegas will always have its share of bargains. Chief among them is a consistent stream of music acts that have played for free over the years, like Bow Wow Wow, The English Beat and most recently, some PYTs from the country scene.

This summer will see Fremont Street reach back in time even further as they celebrate the Summer of ’69 with a steady and supple line-up of many acts that were around during the thick of Woodstock.

Lovingly celebrating the 40th anniversary of the famous concert, Fremont Street will kick things off on Memorial Day weekend with the likes of the Guess Who (American Woman, These Eyes) and Blood, Sweat & Tears (Spinning Wheel, You‘ve Made Me So Happy) and continues all through the summer until Labor Day with the a continued strong line-up with Rare Earth, Jefferson Starship, The 5th Dimension, Canned Heat and Three Dog Night.

Memorial Day Weekend Sale for Vegas is Just So-So

May 4, 2009 at 12:56 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Hotels.com has just kicked off a Memorial Day Weekend sale, offering discounts of up to 50 percent off at more than 450 properties. While we got excited at the mere mention of "hotels" and "sale" we were a little disappointed in the Las Vegas deals.

The offerings for Las Vegas are heavy on the lesser-known and off-Strip hotels like the Desert Paradise resort, The Riviera, The Tuscany Suites & Casino, the South Point Hotel and the El Cortez.

We looked at The Riviera which is going for $125 a night and also comes with a $50 pre-paid Mastercard. This sounds good initially especially since the rooms here were recently renovated. However, the pre-paid card arrives four to six weeks after you've completed your stay. So you can't use that $50 credit on any perks while you're in Sin City. Eh.

Meanwhile on the Strip, The Excalibur continues to be the discount hotel with rates starting at $136 a night for Memorial Day Weekend.

To book the Hotels.com deal you must book by May 25 for travel between May 21 and May 27. The prepaid Mastercard is for guests who book three nights or more for travel through September 15. However, all travel must be booked by May 25.
