Ring in the New Year with Fireworks and Snow at The Rio

Where: 3700 West Flamingo Road [map], 89103
December 22, 2009 at 8:38 PM | by globetrotting gourmet | 0 Comments

It gets pretty cold in Las Vegas but snow is rare. Ok, so it snowed last year and there were reports of the flurries in the 'burbs the other week (and today!) but other than that, snow in the desert doesn't happen very often. Fake snow, on the other hand, happens all the time and the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino is throwing a New Year's Eve party devoted to the white stuff. (Before you even think it, we're telling you to get your mind out of the gutter right now.)

The Sinful Snow Ball at Voodoo Lounge will be decked out in sleek winter white décor including living ice sculptures. Expect a fire and ice performance group and entertainment by the famous VooDoo Dolls, DJ Quickie Mart, Video DJ Crime and DJ Jeff G. And the clincher: Faux snow will fall at midnight to ring in the New Year.

We've always been fans of VooDoo Lounge for its killer views from the 51st floor but with fireworks set to go off again in Las Vegas this year, this will be an excellent place to welcome 2010.

General admission tickets are $50 in advance and $75 at the door. Doors open at 9pm. Call (702) 777-6875 for tickets.

Still haven't found the perfect party fit? Don't worry -- we'll keep the suggestions coming right up until the big day. Know of any New Year's Eve parties we should check out? Tip us off.

John Mayer Expected to Indulge in Vanity After His New Year's Eve Concert

The cyclone chandelier

New Year’s not just all about celeb hosts, you know. The Hard Rock reckons its new club, Vanity, is going to be so spectacular that it doesn’t need any A listers stealing its thunder when it opens on the 31st; the pearls, hand-cut crystals, “cyclone chandelier” and, um, “rubbed brass” sprucing up the inside will be enough to reel the punters in. Although, um, they’re getting John Mayer to pop in, just in case.

Back to Vanity. The place does look pretty nice from the pictures, although the description – “an eclectic jewel box” focusing on “the most important person in the room – you” – is a wee bit vomitous. But we’re ready to overlook that for the sake of that cyclone/LED chandelier and its 20,000 lights sparkling on the dancefloor, and the beauty salon in the ladies, with six booths where staff will buff your nails and touch up your lippy in case you’re too drunk busy to do it yourself.

December 11, 2009 at 8:30 PM | by globetrotting gourmet | 0 Comments

All the stars are coming out for the New Years Eve soirees in Sin City this year. We're kinda surprised that Paris, LaLohan and Brit Brit haven't staked claim on hosting any parties - yet. There's still time and we know these three never pass up an opportunity to kick up their Louboutins in Vegas. Here are three more options to add to your NYE party consideration list:

The Spectacular Spectacular NYE featuring Paul Oakenfold at Rain at Palms. General admission tickets cost $75 (not completely outrageous). Jump to $225 for a host bar from 9 p.m. – 1 a.m. with Ketel One Vodka and Perrier Jouet. $375 will buy you a VIP All Access wristband and express admission to Rain Nightclub, Playboy Club, Moon Nightclub, & Ghostbar. And for an additional Benjamin, you get all of the above, plus the vodka/bubbles hosted bar at all venues from 10 p.m. – 1 a.m., except for Moon Nightclub. Buy your tickets here.

Rooms at Aria are Sold-Out on Opening Night

Where: 3730 Las Vegas Boulevard [map], 89109
December 11, 2009 at 12:51 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

As we head into the last weekend before the world will change forever aka the final culmination of CityCenter's Grand Opening Party, we decided to check on rooms at Aria Resort and Casino for December 16th, opening night.

Sadly, if you're looking to book a last-minute room here, the place is sold-out. According to the website's availability calendar, the next night open is December 17 for $159. Next weekend is also open at $169 a night.

But if you're looking to stay on New Year's Eve, which we think would be awesome, the rooms are not so bad--$299 on December 30 and $399 on December 31.

Plus, you can tell your friends you spent New Year's Eve at CityCenter. They'll say, "What is that?" And you'll say, "You know, the new massive complex in Vegas next to The Bellagio that has three new hotels, a luxury retail mall and a Cirque du Soleil show all about Elvis?" And they'll reply, "There's a new hotel next to The Bellagio?" This will go on for some time. But still, it's worth bragging about to people who know about it.

New Year's Eve Parties Pack Lots of Celeb Power

December 7, 2009 at 12:12 PM | by globetrotting gourmet | 0 Comments

We have mad organizational skills that put Julie the Cruise Director to shame, but even we can’t compile everything that’s going down in Las Vegas on New Year’s Eve, so you’re gonna have to settle for bite sized installments. (We like lists.)

We don’t want to tell you what to do (we’re so not the boss of your social schedule), but we have one rule of thumb. If you’re thinking of ringing in the new year in Vegas and you want to make sure you can get into a specific party, buy your tickets now.

Why? We’ve learned the hard way that the closer it gets to the big date, the higher the ticket prices are hiked. And guys, since in many cases, you’re already paying two or three times the face value of tickets compared to the ladies’, we’re guessing you don’t want to get price gouged any more than absolutely necessary.

Fiddy And The Black Eyed Peas Are Taking On Xtina For New Year's Eve

Where: 3570 Las Vegas Blvd South [map], 89109
December 1, 2009 at 11:11 AM | by juliab | 0 Comments

While Christina Aguilera will be getting down at Tao this New Year’s Eve, Caesar’s will be luring 50 Cent down to PURE to “perform” (as opposed to merely “hosting”, like Xtina).

Tickets are going for $150, with table rezzies starting at $2000 (four people, including two bottles of spirits). For a chunky $25k, 10 of you will get four bottles of Belvedere, the same of Dom Perignon, and a chance to shake hands with the Fidster himself. Reserve your tables here or get your pleb tickets at Vegas.com.

If you want more celebs for your money, you’ll need to hit LAX in the Luxor where the Black Eyed Peas will be doing their thing. Again, entry costs $150, while tables start at $3000 for six people. A table, booze, plus a meet and greet costs, again, $25,000. But with four of them to go around, that’s a lot more reasonable, no? No? Well Bette Midler's yours for $120.

Get Dirrty With Xtina at Tao on New Year's

Where: 3355 Las Vegas Blvd. South [map], 89109
November 23, 2009 at 6:27 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

No matter what time of year, there's usually a celebrity (loosely used term) hosting or performing at a nightclub every Friday and Saturday night in Las Vegas. In fact, it's so routine that we're not even impressed by half the celebs that roll through. But New Year's Eve is an entirely different story. This is one of the biggest holidays in Vegas and the celeb quotient is upped impressively.

This year at Tao inside The Venetian, Christina Aguilera will be hosting the festivities. Tickets are currently being sold for $150 per person which includes entry to the massive club, open bar, hors d'oeuvres and a champagne toast at midnight. And while you will be breathing the same, hot, sweaty air as Xtina herself, don't hold your breath for a performance.

Typically, celebs "hosting" a party means they will kick it in the VIP area and come out once or twice to wave to us plebs below. And that's all that you will get to see. But we bet the DJ will be queuing up Xtina's biggest hits. "I'm a genie in a bottle baby...."

P. Diddy is The Old Man In the Club Opening a Club for The Hard Rock

Where: 4455 Paradise Rd [map], 89109
November 16, 2009 at 11:14 AM | by juliana | 0 Comments

What is going on here? It's bad enough that P. Diddy still insists on making club appearances but it looks as if he will be helping the Hard Rock open up their new nightclub around New Year's Eve, called Vanity, according to the Las Vegas Sun.

The club will not be a P. Diddy venture but he is at least going to be responsible for popping bottles during the club's first nights open. Although the club will open on New Year's Eve, P. Diddy's appearance won't happen until a few days after.

Vanity is the newest club from the Nightlife Group and it's designed to be a 14,000-square-foot pleasure haven with 50 "intimate" VIP booths, a sunken dance floor and even five outdoor cabanas on the adjacent terrace. Here's the official club description:

An eclectic jewel box, Vanity is adorned with pearls and hand cut crystals fused with bronze and gold metallic surrounded by antique mirrors, rubbed brass and black chrome. The organized chaos of velvets, deep satins and rich tapestries add to the gleaming textures throughout the club creating the perfect backdrop of reflective brilliance. The heartbeat of the club is a cyclone chandelier of over 20 thousand lit crystals bringing the dance floor to life.

Cyclone chandelier? It's the newest disco ball!
