Tropicana to Bring the SPF This Summer

Have you heard? Everything old is new again at the Trop. Including its night and beach clubs.

RPM Nightclub made its debut in time to ring in 2012 and ring out Club Nikki. Now, SPF will be "the new place to be this pool season," if Trop RPM does say so itself. [We're not quite sure how that works, but we're willing to go with it. Also, see what they did there? RPM. SPF. KIS(S).]

So, Umm, What's Going On With The Trop?

September 26, 2011 at 1:10 PM | by | Comments (3)

Everything looked so promising, shiny and kinda new just about this time last year (heck, we even gave them an award), but now there's a whole lotta drama going on at The Trop.

The Mob Experience is just about sleeping with the fishes. Gladys Knights' midnight train is delayed and then cancelled unexpectedly. The much-hyped Italian resto Bacio slashed its days of operation. And, now comes news from the Las Vegas Sun that Nikki Beach/Club Nikki is kaput (as we know it or, rather, as they wanted us to know it) and that Trop "plans to run the show itself."

Cafe Nikki Defies All Expectations, Is Brilliant

The awning on the patio. Nicer than the patio itself.

We weren’t, truth be told, hugely excited by the arrival of Café Nikki to the Tropicana. Yes, Nikki Beach does superlatively well in attracting a certain crowd, and yes, it had a stonking opening party – but what wears well by the pool doesn’t necessarily wear well in the kitchen, and we feared that it’d be full of sticklets and juiceheads eating sliders. We also heard bad reports about the food from the media preview, so it was with trepidation that we first headed over there a couple of months back.

But oh, thank god we did, because it swiftly became one of our favorite hangouts. For a start, while the indoor dining room is fine during the day, the outdoor patio really comes into its own at night – you eat surrounded by palm trees, overlooking the Trop’s beautiful gardens, with white drapes overhead. Perfect, romantic, beautiful – and it’s not often we feel that in Vegas. First gold star.

Inside Nikki Beach at The Tropicana

June 16, 2011 at 7:32 PM | by | Comments (2)

Yesterday, we dropped our 2011 Field Guide to the Vegas Pool Scene on you and in the interest of continuing our studied observations on the captivating pool scenes, here's an inside look at the new Nikki Beach Club at the Tropicana.

Our trusted spy hit up this brand-new pool scene the second weekend that it was open. Aside from the folks getting it on canoodling around the edges of the pool, things were pretty tame here at Nikki Beach. But with so many out of control pool parties filled with drunken messes here in Vegas, being "pretty tame" might be a good thing.

Nikki Beach is open from Thursday through Sunday from 10am to 11pm. Females are $20, males are $30 and hotel guests are free. You can learn more at www.nikkibeachlasvegas.com.

Strap on Sax Under the Stars at Nikki Beach

June 10, 2011 at 4:34 PM | by | Comments (3)

We might have Epic Sax Guy and the Sexy Sax Man to blame/thank for the return of the saxophone players in today's popular culture. But over at the Tropicana's new Nikki Beach, the internet meme comes to life with Club Nikki's very own saxophone player.

Decked out in Weekend at Bernie's attire, the sax man actually plays along with the DJ spinning club songs. A trusted VegasChatter spy who chilled at Nikki Beach on Saturday said that all of the sudden during a club song, the sax man just busted out with a solo. (No, it wasn't George Michael's Careless Whispers. Darnit!)

So who is this male Lisa Simpson and will we be seeing more of him this summer at other Vegas pool parties? We can only hope!

Stay tuned next week for our 2011 VegasChatter Pool Scene Field Guide. In the meantime, feel free to send us your tips, questions and observations about the Vegas pool scene so far!

Nikki Beach Will Open May 26 with a White Party (Sigh)

March 30, 2011 at 1:15 PM | by | Comments (2)

It took about a year but the promised arrival of Euro-club Nikki Beach at the revamped Tropicana will happen on Thursday, May 26 and ladies, you better have those white g-strings at the ready.

Nikki Beach is planning to kick off its grand opening on Memorial Day Weekend with a cheesy dress code requirement, white, for an event fittingly called, The White Party. We are cursing the wrath of P. Diddy right now.

Clubgoers will get to dance the freak nasty in their white garb in three areas of Nikki Beach---Nikki Beach Club, Club Nikki, and Cafe Nikki.

Nikki Beach Club will essentially be the four acres of the Trop's pool area, offering guests white "opium beds" for lounging along with cabanas for petite poolside parties with bottle and food service. Swim-up blackjack will remain as will that private island in the center for douchebags quiet time.

Is The Nikki Beach Club Coming to The Tropicana?

May 10, 2010 at 3:54 PM | by | Comments (0)

UPDATE 5.11.10: Las Vegas Weekly reports that Nikki Beach Club at the Trop will have a "St. Barths Pool Island", a day-club seafood restaurant and Nikki Beach Club memberships. Everything else seems pretty standard for a pool party scene.

Is this Miami or Vegas? We can't tell

According to gossiper Robin Leach, The Tropicana will be getting a sexy new pool scene from the Nikki Beach Club.

The Trop, even having undergone an extensive renovation, would certainly be an interesting place for the Nikki Beach Club which is a European-style beach/night club found in too-glamorous-for-you jetsetter destinations like St. Tropez, St. Barths, Cannes Marbella and Miami. They also have hotels attached to their clubs in Thailand and Panama.

Then again, what Nikki Beach does is not all that different from the pool parties thrown by the other casinos in town--which means it will be hosted by a celebrity with tunes from a guest DJ and attended by ladies in sunglasses, thongs and high heels and macho dudes who believe the amount of girls they will hook up is directly proportional to the amount of money they spend on bottle service.

Leach says the official announcement is set for Tuesday so we'll update you then with what that entails. In the meantime, sit tight for our very own review of the Trop's new rooms!
