Hello Nobu, Goodbye Hyakumi?
The signage for Nobu Way has gone up at Caesars Palace. The Nobu restaurant and lounge are getting the final touches as are the 181 guest rooms inside the Nobu Hotel. Now all we have to do is count down the hours until the joint opens. (That's happening around 11am on Friday, February 1st.) But, there's something we can't stop thinking about.
Directly across from the swank new Nobu Hotel lobby/elevator bank is the old Hyakumi Japanese Restaurant, the other sushi restaurant at Caesars. And by "directly across" we mean DIRECTLY ACROSS from the Nobu Hotel. The hostess at Hyakumi will be seeing guests checking into the Nobu Hotel and presumably making reservations for the higher-end sushi joint instead of Hyakumi.

What's Inside That $288 Bento Box from Nobu Hotel's Room Service
Both the Nobu Hotel and the Nobu Restaurant and Lounge are just days away from opening (see our Sneak Peek HERE) yet the hotel and restaurant's very own iPhone app is very much open. And, it's one of our favorite hotel apps yet.
Under the Nobu Perks tab, guests can order up a Range Rover to transport them to and from the airport to the Nobu Hotel ($77 each way); fill out a pre-arrival questionnaire; select a type of pillow to adorn the bed; and even arrange a same-day shoe shine ($15).
Guests can also peruse the other hotel services and amenities available to them through Caesars Palace such as services at the Qua spa as well as details on shows, bars, lounges and gaming.
But, it is the Dining section of the Nobu Hotel app that had us salivating. Here we found the complete menu for the Nobu Room Service including the Nobu Bento Boxes which are being hailed as "game-changers for the hotel industry."
They are:
· Katsu, $28: Panko fried chicken, beef, or pork cutlet with Tonkatsu.
· Unagi Don, $30: Grilled BBQ eel over rice.
· Shojin, $45: Spinach dry miso salad, vegetable nigiri, vegetable roll, nasu miso, vegetable spicy garlic, tofu teriyaki.
· Vegas, $55: Maki rolls: spicy tuna, california, soft shell crabs.
· Matsuhisa, $65: Sashimi salad, nigiri and maki selection, black cod, vegetable spicy garlic, chicken anticucho
· High Roller, $288: Lobster wasabi, wagyu steak, shrimp, spicy garlic, spinach dry miso with crab, premium rolls and nigiri. Repeat, this is $288.

Sneak Peek Inside Nobu at Caesars Palace, The Largest Nobu in the World
Happy Friday, we hope you're in the mood for some sushi!
We just took an in-depth tour of the upcoming Nobu Restaurant inside Caesars Palace. While the restaurant is not entirely completed (there are some last-minute finishing touches being put on and Caesars will start moving in furniture and equipment later tonight), the joint will indeed be open on February 2nd which is when an official ribbon-cutting ceremony will happen. There will be a lucky few with reservations that night but the restaurant will be open to the general public on February 4.
Not-so-coincidentally, this is the same day that the Nobu Hotel will open. We weren't able to sneak a peek at any of the hotel rooms but we did get a glimpse into the intimate lobby/elevator bank and spoke with the hotel's general manager, Gigi Vega, about what guests can expect.
We'll have all of that and more for you next week but for now, sit back and enjoy these Nobu photos. In the meantime here are some quick facts about Nobu Caesars Palace:
· David Rockwell and his design firm The Rockwell Group did the design for the hotel, restaurant and lounge.
· Natural design elements incoproating stone, wood and paper are found throughout.
· There will be a 15 person bar at the lounge and a total of 327 seats throughout the restaurant.
· The space totals 12,775-sq.ft., making it the largest Nobu in the world.
· There will also be three teppanyaki tables, a first for a U.S. Nobu.
· Guests staying at the Nobu hotel will have priority access to Nobu. Vega told us that they "will make it happen" for guests, no matter the night or capacity level.

Nobu Restaurant at Caesars Palace to Open Alongside the Nobu Hotel This Fall
In case you got caught up in the excitement of the first-ever Nobu Hotel opening later this fall, Caesars Palace would like to remind you that there's also a massive Nobu Restaurant and Lounge opening alongside the hotel as well.
Today, Nobu and Caesars put out some more detes on what we can expect from inside the11,200-square-foot restaurant:
Bowed columns of bamboo will line the exterior of the restaurant to resemble the structure of the traditional Japanese ikebana basket used for the art of flower-arranging. A brand new vocabulary of natural design elements incorporating stone, wood and paper will create an exclusive yet inviting dining scene.

SushiSamba Is Also Charging a Water Fee... For a Good Cause!
While the furor over the water fee at Border Grill has cooled off, you'll be happy to know that over at SushiSamba at The Palazzo a $1 tap water fee is temporary, non-mandatory, and for a good cause.
If you opt for it, you'll be contributing to the UNICEF Tap Project, which helps bring clean water to children in developing countries. But, it's not just SushiSamba. A bunch of other restaurants will be offering the same thing next week, March 19-25, as part of World Water Week. You can see the full list of participating restaurants around the country here here but in Vegas, only Nobu Las Vegas at Hard Rock is also participating.
Ahem, Border Grill, this could be your time to do the right thing... at least for a week.

Nobu Hotel Caesars Palace Is Officially 'Coming Soon'
Last month during our stay at Caesars Palace we noticed this construction wrap as we were headed towards the Garden of the Gods for the upcoming Nobu Restaurant and Nobu Hotel. We got the tingles!
While the hotel and the restaurant won't be opening until next summer, a rep tells us renovations are set to begin very soon. If you recall, Caesars is turning the old Centurion Tower into a 180-room boutique hotel where the biggest highlight will no doubt be the Nobu room service.
Also, the WSJ reports that architect David Rockwell has just finalized the plans for the hotel. So it's definitely in motion. But will it be open by summer? We're rubbing our chopsticks for good luck!

Pass The Edamame, Nobu Hotel to Open Next Summer
With all the openings and closings that happen frequently in this town, it's getting hard to keep track of what's coming and what's going. So you may not have seen this bit of news that the Nobu Hotel is set to open at Caesars Palace next summer.
Since the hotel is essentially being created out of the gross old Centurion Tower, that tower is now expected to close sometime this fall for the renovations to begin. This all sounds great to us and we're beyond excited to sleep with the fishes, er, sleep in a Nobu Hotel but it also sounds a bit unrealistic. How will Caesars shut down an old tower and turn it into "most exquisite boutique hotel experience in Las Vegas" all before next summer?
We know Nobu can work some culinary magic but can he work construction magic too? We'll be sharpening our chopsticks in anticipation.

Just yesterday we were reminiscing over Restaurant Week 2010, wishing for another week, and looking forward to next year. Turns out we don’t have to turn the page quite so quickly in order to feed ourselves around town for a good cause.
While not quite Restaurant Week, the Las Vegas Epicurean Affair takes place Thursday and is a lot more convenient. Instead of having to narrow our dining choices based on restaurants you can find time to visit in person, the restaurants will come to you.

What to Take From The Grand Tasting (Heartburn Optional)

Apologies if our roundup yesterday of our favorite bits of Vegas Uncork’d made you a) hungry or b) jealous. We understand that if you missed it, planning a trip to make it next year won’t cut it when all you’ve got in the larder for your lunch is a poptart and your local equivalent of a sexy Vegas chef is Mr D Donuts.
But although you’ll have to wait till next year to experience the Grand Tasting, you’re more than welcome to come on down here and eat the sexy chef wares in their proper restaurants. In fact, where we only had a mouthful of everything, you can take a whole plateful. That makes you feel better, right?
To help you choose which to go for (and which to avoid), and as a gesture of reconciliation, we’re giving you our top tips from the Grand Tasting. Don’t take them as gospel – food cooked on a grill outside is never going to match what’s brewed in the restaurants, after all, and the foodie fiends of Tasting Las Vegas told us that “few of the stalls were representative” of the restaurants.
What it does mean, though, is that we have even higher hopes for the ones that did it well. And of what we ate (probably just under half of what was on offer), those were:
