We’d be smirking if we made $$$$ off recycling our old work, too

Not that we want to kick Vegas magic when it’s down, but as we said yesterday, we checked out Penn and Teller a couple of weeks back at the Rio, and boy were we unimpressed.

To be fair, they’re not our kind of magicians to start with. We love magic, and we love being magicked. We don’t want to see Lance Burton’s wires caught up in the stage lighting (whoopsies). We don’t want to hear that Luke Jermay uses cue cards. And we definitely don’t want Penn and Teller to do a trick and then show us how they did it. Call us numbskulls Luddites, but we’d rather think it really is magic.

Fact: Vegas is a stalker’s paradise. You can pretty much meet any celeb/performer you like, as long as you’re prepared to stump up for the privilege. Wayne Newton, Barry Manilow, Lionel Richie, Donny & Marie, even Bubba Clinton – if you have the goodies (ie lots of money), they’ll shake your hand.

But what if you don’t have the moolah? Or if you’d (probably rightly) feel like a saddo for handing over $200 to get the quickest of hellos from someone you used to fancy back in 1989? Does that mean you’ll never meet a Vegas celeb?

No, people, not at all. Because there are some nice performers out there on the Strip who meet n greet their audience regardless of whether they’ve sat up front or been stashed away in the cheap seats. Here are our Top Five Acts That Meet and Greet. Go forth and mack on them (our fave new American word).

Neil Patrick Harris Meets Penn and Teller and It's Legen...Wait for It...Dary

Doogie aka Barney aka Neil Patrick Harris from "How I Met Your Mother" was at the Penn & Teller show on Monday night at Rio Las Vegas. While he was in the crowd for the show, he also got special backstage access to goof around with Penn & Teller.

But this wasn't just a glorified photo op for P&T and NPH, who was in town filming an appearance on "Live With Regis and Kelly". NPH is actually a fellow magician. He's on the Board of Directors at Hollywood's Magic Castle where he once filmed an episode of Top Chef Master's. (The boys even have Top Chef in common!) He also hosted the World Magic Awards last year and has won a magician's award himself.

Penn & Teller perform every night except Friday at The Rio starting at 9pm. Tickets start at $75 and VIP seats start at $85 and come with a 30-page color booklet. Go here to book or call the box office at 888 746 7784.

Penn & Teller Toss Up Deconstruction Challenge to Top Chefs

We’re pretty sure we tasted vomit in our mouth when we saw the remaining Top Chef contestants don red neckties in homage to Mattin for the Quickfire Challenge. Really? Sigh. The young French chef never really did much for us and we haven’t exactly shed tears since he got to heave-ho last week. The whole stunt was really silly.

Anyway, the episode began with Jennifer hemming and hawing about Robin getting lucky in the previous episode. We can’t say we disagree. We’re from Seattle and should show some kinda hometown support, but frankly, the woman’s incessant blah blah drives us batshit crazy.

Nevertheless, the purpose of this Quickfire Challenge was to create two dishes representative of personal devil/angel battles. Gee, that’s so original for Vegas. Michelle Bernstein of Miami culinary scene fame was on hand to judge the goods. She’s the first female chef we’ve seen this season and she keeps pretty quiet for the duration.
