The Vegas Twitterverse imploded earlier today with talk of the sudden closures of First, Rattlecan (pictured above) and The Act at Venetian/Palazzo. When the rumors settled, two of the three were accurate.
A spokesperson for First Food & Bar and Rattlecan, both concepts by Chef Sammy DeMarco, released this statement in response to the chatter:

Before you judge us, we know. Dining just about anywhere on The Strip can be expensive. Usually, we don't bat an eye when presented with a bill for our meal. But, after snacking recently at the newly opened Rattlecan inside Venetian, we literally gasped when we saw how much our glass of soda cost -- $5 bucks. And, then immediately reached for our cup to drain it dry.
Now, maybe this pricing isn't that new to you in your travels up and down The Strip. And, maybe, we haven't paid close enough attention in the past. But, it was quite the sticker shock to this Chatter'er. Especially, when our side of sweet potato fries only cost a buck more. And, when we noticed that a lot of Rattlecan's pickle'd appetizers were less than our Pepsi (many running around $4) and that it's basic burger was only $4 dollars more. (And, side rant, we actually prefer Coke.)

This Just One Dish is more of a perfect melding of all those cravings that all too often get us into trouble -- a little something sweet, a little something salty, and a little something crunchy with a kicker of gooey goodness thrown in.
The decor at Rattlecan represents this culture in a strange way as we detailed before its opening. A burger joint next to a poker room and across from a sportsbook is a perfect fit for any casino. Graffiti, a mechanical pickle (hidden in back as not to look like it was crying for attention) and hard rock music, however, seem a little out of place on the casino floor with the classic Italian decor of The Venetian. That said, Rattlecan is pretty awesome in a lot of ways.
The vibe inside Rattlecan was great. The music was rocking and bands ranged from Green Day to Metallica. There was a nice variety of seating, from chairs at the bar to large tables with high stools that look out to the sportsbook.
There were also a handful of booths and even "outdoor" casino seating.
There are also more secluded places to eat if you don't want to be seen.
The vibe is akin to a cleaned up and mainstream dive bar like the Double Down Saloon.

Forget that it's by the same folks that brought us the drool-worthy FIRST at Venetian. A stop at Rattlecan, the resort's newest restaurant set to debut this Sunday, is a must simply because of the mechanical pickle. Yes. The mechanical pickle. All that's required for a ride is for you to down a shot. Seems doable to us.
