In the aftermath of superstorm Sandy, the New York City ING marathon was initially still on then, with just 36 hours to go, it was off. Some stranded runners completed informal miles in the name of fundraising while others gave back by volunteering their time and having to pace a five-minute mile.
Regardless if registered marathoners ran, volunteered, or never made it to NYC, the folks behind the Rock N' Roll Las Vegas Marathon are giving those runners an opportunity to put their training to use. In a good
PR will offer, Rock N' Roll organizers of the December 2 race are offering NYC marathoners a 20% discount toward their Vegas registration. And, they'll donate that 20% to Hurricane Sandy Relief. See? It is a gesture of goodwill, after all.
It's time to start thinking about whether you want to rock 'n roll down The Strip at night. Either, for the first time or all over again.
Public registration for the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon that will send waves of runners down Las Vegas Boulevard on the evening of December 2 will open a week from today on Friday, June 1. That's if some runners can move past what happened last year (and, from Facebook comments, it looks like some can't). That's also if people can take a $150 registration fee* in stride (and that's cheap considering it shoots up to $185 the longer you wait).

It's cowboy hats, NASCAR jackets and spandex this weekend in Vegas. The National Finals Rodeo is in town for ten straight days while Wynn has turned into NASCAR central for the Sprint Cup Series Awards. And, if that's not enough, there's a little nighttime marathon rockin' and rollin' down The Strip, too. So, if that check-in line seems to last forever, it may be because some 100,000 people are waiting alongside you. Though, thankfully, not at the same hotel.
It's too late to register for Sunday's Rock n' Roll Marathon, but you can line The Strip to cheer on runners starting at 4 p.m. for the full marathon and 5:30 p.m. for the half. Check out the course map here. You're also out of luck for the Sprint Cup Awards, but you can have the next best thing by catching it on SPEED beginning at 9 p.m. EST tomorrow, Friday, December 2.
The good news is that if you're hankering to get your cowboy on, you'll be able to do it all over The Strip this weekend (and beyond). Here's just some of the many ways to grab the bull by the horns:
