There's a smooth criminal at Mandalay Bay, and it's not just Cirque du Soleil's tribute to Michael Jackson.

Apparently, a lover fan of Michael Jackson has been hanging out at the hotel's Eyecandy casino bar for the last few months -- sequined gloves, red leather jacket, (sometimes a black-sequined one paired with a white tee), and all.

One month from now, Michael Jackson will touch us once again (from beyond the grave, minds out of gutters, please) when Cirque's Immortal World Tour stops in for almost a full month at Mandalay Bay.

Though, tickets went on sale ages ago, we've great news for procrastinators. There's apparently plenty to still go around, as long as you don't mind spending close to $200 per. But, take heart, at least now there's a 10 percent discount if you buy them online.

The Michael Jackson Cirque Show Is Awesome. And, Frustrating. And, Dazzling.

October 4, 2011 at 12:21 PM | by | ()

The one thing you can always count on from Cirque du Soleil is that its shows will evoke a visceral reaction. You will love it. Or, loathe it. Think it's the best ever or the absolute worst. You will be riveted or bored to tears. Very rarely will you find someone who gives any Cirque show a simple meh. And, so it is for Cirque's newest production, Michael Jackson: The Immortal, which kicked off its 47-city world tour in Canada on Sunday.

Toronto.com calls the tribute "spectacular" while the Toronto Sun labels it as "uneven." The Montreal Gazette hails it as "dazzling" while the Globe and Mail informs us that it is "fittingly wacko."

Mandalay Bay To Be Eternally MJ

April 28, 2011 at 3:12 PM | by | ()

Two years from now, the marquee for Mandalay Bay might just read Michael Jackson's Mandalay Bay. Or, at least it will on our photoshopped post.

Yesterday, hotel execs joined reps from Cirque du Soleil and Michael Jackson's estate to make one of the city's most open secrets official. A permanent Cirque production honoring Jackson will make its debut at the resort in early 2013.

And, that's not the only way the King of Pop will continue to touch fans. There'll be a Jackson-themed lounge (cough, Light Group) and an interactive memorabilia exhibit for fans who don't want to stop until they've had enough.

And, Now To Mandalay Bay For The Non-Shocking News Of The Week

Where: 3930 Las Vegas Boulevard S. [map], 89109

What everyone's suspected for months is about as official as you can get without the hour-long press conference (due to take place, anyway, next week). The permanent Michael Jackson Cirque show is coming to Mandalay Bay.

Cirque says it will fill us in on an "unparalleled and extensive relationship" with Mandalay Bay and the Michael Jackson family on Wednesday, but when you throw around phrases like "a permanent celebration to The King of Pop in Las Vegas" you really let the kid out of Neverland.

Vegas gossip Robin Leach says to look for the show to make its debut in 2013 and for Disney's THE LION KING to end its circle of life at Mandalay Bay later this year.

The Michael Jackson Cirque Du Soleil Show Will Land in Vegas in Late 2012

November 3, 2010 at 12:10 PM | by | ()

So the Cirque du Soleil show about Michael Jackson is no joke and now Cirque has gone public with the show's name, story and opening schedule. And like Michael Jackson's life, it's a little scary.

A riveting fusion of visuals, dance, music and fantasy that immerses audiences in Michael's creative world and literally turns his signature moves upside down, Michael Jackson THE IMMORTAL World Tour unfolds Michael Jackson's artistry before the eyes of the audience.

The Immortal World Tour is not necessarily a bad name but it gives off the vibe of a ghost tour, don't you think? Like, a man who loved performing on stage so much, he never left. Not even after death. Ooooeeeeeooooo.

In looking at the sketches of the show released by Cirque today, two scary-looking tree branches (supposed to represent MJ's Giving Tree) anchor the stage along with what appears to be footage of MJ and of course, the Cirque performers themselves. The stage set up also looks more like pop concert staging which is probably most apropo here.
