When Fight Night Is At Treasure Island
They fight in a second-floor ballroom at the Treasure Island, a hotel-casino that spends working hours housing a percentage of the business conventions which descend upon Las Vegas each year. It's an intimate setting for an intimate sport. An opulent, gold-colored chandelier hangs from the ceiling in the center of the room, directly above the ring in which the combatants, shirtless and chiseled, will engage in the art known to many as the sweet science. The air is heavy with both anticipation and excitement.
It's a fight night in Las Vegas.

What Happens In Senor Frog's, Gets Broadcast On 'TV'
Senor Frog's brought its brand of bright colors, sights, sounds, textures, fun, humor and crazy antics to Treasure Island last year. While we have yet to fully experience it firsthand, a recent drive-by has us re-thinking our fool me once, fool me twice mentality. On a recent Sunday afternoon, the restaurant was bursting with activity, music, diners and, yes, crazy antics. Color us pleasantly surprised.
Although a stop inside wasn't in the plans, we managed to get plenty of entertainment from Senor Frog's that day. Around the corner from the entrance near the sports book is a flat screen dubbed Senor Frog's TV displaying pictures of the antics inside. Many are like the one shown above: a couple or group of good lookin' ladies -- some dressed alike, some not -- framed alongside a cargo-shorted frog. Other pics are photoshop funned up with the addition of a sombrero, mustache, or maracas. Crazy, we know.

Rating Poker Tournaments For Every Bankroll
After reading about 2004 World Series of Poker Champion Greg Raymer’s prostitution bust earlier this week, we were reminded of the explosion of poker that he helped herald in. During the period after everymen Raymer and Chris Moneymaker took home WSOP bracelets after winning seats in online poker satellites, every Vegas casino jumped to get poker rooms in place.
A decade later, thanks to the current illegality of online poker, interest in the game has waned. It is impossible for US players to win seats into bigger tournaments online. Poker rooms have begun to close around town. With less players, less of a rake is generated. There is little reason for many casinos to keep funding a room that merely breaks even, when they could just fill the area with slot machines.

Getting Out Of Treasure Island's Resort Fee
Caesars Entertainment's newly instated resort fees don't apply to everyone. And, in case you weren't aware, neither does Treasure Island's.
@TIVegas told us on Twitter recently that there are ways around its $25 a night (plus tax) resort fee. And, it's sharing the news with others, too:

At TI's New Mojito Bar, A Tale Of Two Experiences
A couple of weeks ago, we found ourselves wandering around TI looking for a drink before playing in a poker tournament. After noticing some cool nautical décor (this writer still thinks casino themes are pretty damn cool), we grabbed a seat at Mojito Bar located outside Seafood Shack. Not exactly the pinnacle of creative restaurant naming, but that seems to be the trend in Las Vegas lately. Sadly, it took about ten minutes before someone took our drink order, even though the bar was half full. We made note of a cool tap beer list (Anchor Steam, Alaskan Amber, etc), but left a little disappointed in the service.
One week later, we were offered a chance to attend a media tasting of the new drink menu at that very same bar so we headed back for a second try. As we walked in, we were greeted by several friendly executives and a team of smiling bartenders and servers. Funny how that happens. When we made our way to the bar, we were offered our choice of four signature mojitos.

A Look At Rates For St. Patrick's Day Weekend
Well, if you can believe it, it's almost March already. Almost time for March Madness and pool season, and in another month, we'll be on the verge of spring. So, let's celebrate, yeah? Every drinker's Irishman's favorite day of the year is coming up on March 17. We checked in to see what rates are looking like for the next big party weekend in Vegas.
Our price points below are based on the best available rate if you check in on Friday, March 15 and check out the morning of Monday, March 18th. We highlighted properties that have things happening for St. Patty's, as well as a few perennial faves.
Rates will fluctuate depending upon room availability and length of stay. For example, you can get a Luxury Suite at the Venetian for $169 the night of March 17, but if you arrive on Friday and stay until Monday, there are no Luxury Suites available. You'll have to pay a bit more for the Luxury View Suite at $209 per night. So, keep that in mind when playing around with the dates.

Five Quickie Snapshot Updates From Around The Strip
A failed trip to check out the new Citizens Kitchen at Mandalay Bay for breakfast didn't satisfy our hunger (we ended up at Raffles Cafe, sad face), but it did provide us with several new updates to share. The first we learned the hard way -- the newly opened, 24/7 Citizens turns away new guests for about 45-60 minutes between breakfast and lunch service. You can probably guess what time we happened to arrive. A rep says they're working out some transitional kinks in the kitchen and hope to eliminate that closure within the next few weeks. Until then, stay away from around 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
After breakfast, we journeyed down The Strip and made the following discoveries:
Hakkasan, that five-story restaurant-slash-lounge-slash-nightclub coming to MGM Grand, still won't say when it's opening exactly, but there's at least a sign for it now. And, some patterned ironwork. And, a big a** video screen.

Where To Honor St. Patrick This Year
With New Year's Eve a distant memory (or coming up for real go-getters) and the Mardi Gras hangover starting to clear, VegasChatter has started to field more St. Patrick's Day queries. The answers are more important this year than perhaps any prior as displaced O'Sheas and Fitzgeralds loyalists look for a new place to revel in Irish green.

Low Rollin' On The Strip
The closure of Bill's Gambling Hall makes Casino Royale one of the last low roller casinos remaining on The Strip. Whether you want $1 beer or you're in the mood for a Cinnabon or if you just want to play $5 craps, Casino Royale has it all. While many casinos on The Strip offer poor odds for most casino games, Casino Royale has some of the best inexpensive gaming. That said, they're not the only place you can gamble for cheap, nowadays.
You won't find low roller limits on The Strip at newer casinos like Aria or Cosmopolitan, but you will find $5 and $10 blackjack at a variety of other casinos up and down The Strip. Availability on these games depend on the day and time you visit, but $5 or $10 blackjack can be had at Luxor, Excalibur, New York-New York, Bally's, Harrah's, Treasure Island, Circus Circus, Riviera and the Stratosphere.

Where Are The Fireworks, You Ask?
In what will certainly be the site of one of the largest displays of public affection in the nation, Vegas will be packed come midnight on New Year's Eve. Times Square might draw a denser crowd, but the Strip will be one of the best places to be as we ring in 2013 with seven simultaneous firework displays.
Where are they this year? It's pretty much deja-vu from 2011. They'll be shooting off from the rooftops of the Stratosphere, Treasure Island, the Venetian, Caesars Palace, Planet Hollywood, Aria, and MGM Grand. Setting up shop outside CityCenter on Las Vegas Boulevard should give you views of the displays at Aria, Planet Hollywoood, and MGM Grand. Hang around The Mirage to see fireworks from Treasure Island, the Venetian, and Caesars.

Dirty Girls To Get Filthy At Gilley's
Admittedly, Gilley's hasn't been that frequent a stop on the VegasChatter tour bus. Not really sure whether to chalk that up to being a lot more rock n' roll and just a little bit country or that the thought of their house wine makes us so ill with bad memories we can't even say it by name. Whatever the root cause, the TI Saloon, Dance Hall, and BBQ just increased the odds of our return in the near future.

Something 'Too Hot' for China is Now Playing at Treasure Island
If Santa Claus is making a list and checking it twice to find out who is naughty and nice, then the new Senses show at Treasure Island is definitely on the naughty list.
Billed as "Banned in China" for its sexual content -- body painted bodies, suggestive dancing, phallic props -- the Zumanity-takes-a-field-trip-to-China production begins a limited engagement at TI Friday, December 14 through Friday, January 4. But, even though China deemed it "too hot" to play there, the show isn't as risque as Peepshow or Jubilee. And, there's no age requirement either so, apparently, the sexy stuff is ok for 13 and under. Way under.
