UPDATE: One Downtown Project Still 'Coming Soon,' Another About to Debut

April 22, 2013 at 8:42 PM | by | Comment (1)

Coming soon, Downtown Vegas will have another new bar and restaurant for us to checkout. Whenever, 'soon' may be.

We took the above snapshot of La Comida, a just off Fremont Street Mexican restaurant by the Morton Group, this afternoon. A walk-by on Saturday night revealed a restaurant which looked pretty much set. And, a drug deal going down in its alley.

Light Announces Delay As Hakkasan (Finally) Debuts

April 19, 2013 at 8:56 PM | by | Comments (0)

Can you hear me now?

Four months after an anticipated New Year's Eve debut, Hakkasan is open at last inside MGM Grand. Kinda.

The five-story restaurant-slash-club-slash-lounge welcomed a sea of oontz lovers for its inaugural evening. Food lovers, however, must wait 'til May 3 to beat it to Hakkasan's resto for "modern Cantonese cuisine."

Hakkasan Announces (Updated) Opening Dates At MGM Grand

March 19, 2013 at 3:27 PM | by | Comments (2)

Remember when Hakkasan at MGM Grand once touted a New Year's Eve 2012 debut? Well, stop it 'cause they probably rather you didn't. Instead, spring ahead to April and May when the brand's nightclub and restaurant will, respectively (and finally), make their Vegas debut. (Fingers crossed)

Hakkasan announced earlier today that its club will open April 18 while its restaurant will start serving "modern Cantonese cuisine" on May 3. As we first told you last summer, Hakkasan will just be your typical five level restaurant-slash-club experience.

Charlie Palmer's Downtown Hotel Delayed Another Year

Where: 100 South Grand Central Parkway [map]
March 6, 2013 at 8:20 PM | by | Comments (2)

A long talked about downtown Vegas hotel by Chef Charlie Palmer has been put on the back burner for one more year.

The boutique, non-gaming hotel was once slated for a barren parcel of land near The Smith Center. Plans were first put on hold in 2010 due to, you guessed it, the economy. Today, representatives along with the chef himself, appeared before the Las Vegas City Council to request that delay continue through February 2014. The motion was approved.

Don't Expect Venetian And Palazzo To Finish Building Those Condos Any Time Soon

Where: 89109
March 6, 2013 at 1:33 PM | by | Comments (2)

The Vegas skyline that never was.

Once upon a time a time when just about every Strip gaming company thought condos were the greatest things since timeshares, Las Vegas Sands did, too. It even started to build 280 of them atop part of the Venetian/Palazzo. And then, as is wont to happen in Vegas, the brakes were applied and the multi-million dollar project was shelved in late 2008. Or, in this case, draped.

Since then, local government officials have granted the gaming company more time to complete the condos, once dubbed the St. Regis Residences. Recently, a third time extension was approved, allowing construction to stay dormant through January 2015. Interestingly, Sands had requested a three-year delay, but only received two as that is the time increment planning officials normally sign off on.

Downtown Roundup: RCP Is Here, Park Almost

February 26, 2013 at 5:33 PM | by | Comments (0)

For those hungry for more dining and drinking options downtown, one more is finally here and another is a bit closer to its Fremont East arrival, too.

First, after opening countdown reset after opening countdown reset, downtowner and Andiamo fan @BruceNV on Twitter alerted us to the fact that Radio City Pizza was finally serving up pie (although a new countdown reports we have t-minus one more day to go):

@BruceNV was so excited to see RCP open that he forgot to snap a pic so the image above, taken about two weeks ago, is the most recent we have. We'll stop by a slice and a few snapshots soon.

Right next door, Park on Fremont says March will be its debut month. This after once saying before year's end. That's 2012's end. But, not like we were keeping track, or anything.

Twin Peaks Won't Open Until This March

January 30, 2013 at 1:08 PM | by | Comments (0)

Making sure everything is stacked...

If this is who is already stopping by the still under construction Twin Peaks on the Strip, we know quite a few guys who won't be able to wait for it to open. But, wait is what they'll need to do.

First expected to pop up (hee) on the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Harmon back in December, the breastaurant later pushed back that opening timeline to January 2013. But, alas, here we are at the end of the month with bad news to share. You won't be able to check out its sexy lumberjills, rock climbing walls and frosty 29-degree beers until March now. March 4, specifically. So no Big Game, but just in time for March Madness. (fingers crossed)

When it does make its debut, Twin Peaks will span 14,000 square feet and cover three floors at Harmon Corner.

Hakkasan To Open By May

January 28, 2013 at 3:17 PM | by | Comments (0)

Remember when Hakkasan once promised a debut of December 2012? Well, add another four to five months to that. The photos above and below show what Hakkasan looked like over the weekend.

Back in September, we reported that Hakkasan wouldn't open until late April 2013. Now, that timeline still seems to be the case as Vegas Uncork'd touts its kick-off party at Hakkasan.. on May 9. And, if Twitter can be believed, the club will open first with the restaurant to follow:

Heraea's Has A Slogan, A Rendering, And An Opening This Month (Fingers Crossed)

January 7, 2013 at 6:04 PM | by | Comments (0)

If you thought ladies got special treatment in Vegas before 2013, you ain't seen nothing yet. SHe by Morton's, a steakhouse marketed toward women, opened at the Crystals mall over New Year's Eve weekend with she-sized portions. And, now, Heraea (say it ha-ray-uh) at Palms is on the verge of introducing us to "Vegas' only sports restaurant designed for women." Or, "where girls go to play," as the slogan we just found states.

Taking over the expansive space once occupied by Graduno's, Heraea had hoped to open by the end of 2012. That came and went, though, with no debut. But, ladies, we're happy to report that it's almost time to break out those babydoll-sized team jerseys and show your cleavage team spirit to the world. While dining at sister restaurant STK at The Cosmo over the weekend, we were presented with a billfold that said Heraea's would be coming this month. At the very least, we hope that it happens before or on February 3. And, if you don't know the significance of that date, Heraea may not be for you.

Echelon To Be Hidden From View By February

October 18, 2012 at 11:55 PM | by | Comments (5)

Once envisioned as a competitor to CityCenter, Echelon is now just a bit of sad Vegas trivia.

Sidelined by the economy back in 2008, the sprawling project was to have seen a 3,300-room hotel-casino, a shopping mall, and three supporting boutique hotels (sound familiar?), a Mondrian, a Shangri-La and a Delano (recently swooped up by Mandalay Bay). Instead, the site has sat dormant all these years.

Vegas Delays: No Nobu Resto For You Until 2013, And More

October 1, 2012 at 10:08 PM | by | Comments (0)

Nobu Hotel won't let us check in until February 2013 (though, everyone can start reserving theirs beginning today) and now we're learning that Nobu the restaurant that's also coming 'soon' to Caesars Palace won't take reservations until January 2013. Originally, Nobu Hotel was to have made its debut this month and the restaurant in November.

In completely unsurprising news, good thing we told you to write a new, new opening date down in pencil for Bagatelle at Tropicana. Just like that its gone from October 20 to Halloween, October 31. We don't have to tell you, though, to keep that eraser handy. Once upon a time, the pool-slash-restaurant-slash-nightclub-slash-supper club had dreamed of opening Memorial Day weekend.

A First Look at Pricing For Nobu Hotel

September 26, 2012 at 1:52 AM | by | Comments (0)

Exclusive bookings of Caesars' Nobu Hotel (or, Nobu Hotel at Caesars?) are now open to the Inner Circle (i.e., people who signed up for Nobu email alerts). And, as a result, we've learned two new facts -- one, guests won't be able to stay until February of next year (a delay from an anticipated fall debut) and, two, a room won't be as expensive as we thought. Of course, "expensive," being relative.

A look at the rate calendar for Nobu Hotel found a starting rate of "just" $249 a night. Honestly, we were expecting to be hit with something in the $300 range. From $249, rates range up to $349.
