If you’re not an avid movie-goer then you may not realize that Avatar is the highest grossing movie of all time. That didn’t mean much to gamblers in the past who were content getting blackjack or three diamonds in a row. Then there’s people like me who watch sports and read tech blogs. We can tell you who’s in the MLB playoffs and give you tips on how to save battery life on your mobile phone, but not who's starring in the latest TV shows or movies.
Times are changing, though, and every form of entertainment is becoming more integrated. There aren’t many screens that don’t share “content,” anymore. A major movie isn’t released without plans for a video game, viral YouTube vignettes, a soundtrack with video, DVD, and so forth.

If you read the headline with breaths between Wheel! Of! and Fortune! you're exactly who the Wheelmobile is looking for when it spins into Las Vegas this weekend. Wheel of Fortune promotional team members will be auditioning contestants for six weeks of shows to be taped at the Venetian and Palazzo in July and August.
To land a playing spot on the game show, contestant wannabes should show up to the Venetian Theatre this Saturday and Sunday, April 20 and 21, beginning at 11 a.m. to fill out an application. Random applicants then will be plucked to audition in three-hour long simulated Wheel of Fortune shows each day. From there TV worthy contestants will be hand chosen for the real deal later this summer. So bring a pen, personality and your lucky rabbit's foot for a shot at the big time. And, we suggest packing snacks since, when the Wheel rolled into the Venetian a few years back, more than 20,000 Fortune fans were expected to greet it.

How often have you dreamt of hitting that big jackpot
while at work and wondered just how big is that jackpot? With the Megabucks jackpot crossing the $15 million mark a few weeks back, our curiosity if it had hit yet got us searching for a current jackpot update on our smartphone.
The MegaJackpots site was smart enough to know we was surfin' on a smartphone and alerted us to the MegaJackpots App by Joingo. There it was: dreams of taking home not only Megabucks but Wheel of Fortune too, all in the palm of our hand.

We've all heard the warnings. McCarran slots are the worst to play. Don't bother playing at the Vegas airport 'cause the slots are the tightest around. We don't know if there's much truth to that, but we do know that at least one Vegas visitor proves that fortune does shine on some.
Albuquerque resident Olson Arviso was feeding money into a Wheel of Fortune slot at McCarran last week when she became a lucky lady, hitting for $303,803.94. The airport's Facebook page says she plans to use the money to pay off her house.
Now, how do you suppose she got that oversized check in the overhead storage bin?

Calling all Pat Sajak and Vanna White fans: The Wheel of Fortune hosts are now taping at the The Venetian today and tomorrow. (The taping actually started on Friday.)
Over 20,000 fans are expected to attend these tapings inside Hall B of The Sands Expo and Convention Center. The shows filmed on Friday will air in September but the others won't be airing until February 2010. Tickets are no longer on sale but if you don't have tickets there are still ways to attend.

Remember last month when we told you that Wheel of Fortune (the game, not just the slot machines) was coming to The Venetian to host some tryouts? Guess what? More than 3,000 people showed up to earn their chance to ask Vanna to turn the letters. And we think it may have had something to do with the show's promotional vehicle, The Wheelmobile, which was parked out front of the hotel.
Folks who have a dream to spin the wheel and buy a vowel on TV completed applications which were then put into a drum. Names were randomly selected (like a raffle) and the potential contestants had to put their puzzle skills to the test as Wheel of Fortune staff evaluated their performance and their "energy and enthusiasm for the game." Participants will be informed shortly if they made the cut or not. Hope nobody was sipping some "liquid courage" that day!
Wheel of Fortune will tape four weeks of shows in Vegas at The Venetian and its sister hotel, The Palazzo on July 17, 18, 20 and 21; the first week will kick of the show's new season on September 14.
