Arnold. Lou. Jean Claude. Dolph. Sly. They didn’t even need last names. Back in the 80s, the biggest stars in the world were bodybuilders. Muscular action stars ruled the box office. Body-sculpting programs and contests were staples on ESPN. Even Diana Ross sang that she wanted muscles. Flash forward to 2013 and bodybuilding seems to have faded from public awareness. But, in truth, the sport and the culture surrounding it are alive and well. And, quietly living in Las Vegas.
This past weekend, 40,000 enthusiasts came to Las Vegas to participate in the Olympia Fitness and Performance Expo and Mr. Olympia Competition. A record 10,000 attended the sold-out main event at the Orleans Arena on Saturday the 28th, and it was simulcast across the world via the Internet. But, who are these fitness devotees, and how has Las Vegas seemingly replaced Venice, California as the heart of bodybuilding? We put on our tank top, oiled ourselves up, and went to look for an answer.
If you like warehouses full of kids...
Time for another VegasChatter Question! Already? Yes, our amazing readers have great questions! Do you have a question about Vegas, too? We bet you do. Send it to us and if we deem it clean enough, we'll post it here on VegasChatter!
Today's question is an important one as it involves nightclubs. Pick up any tabloid magazine today and there is bound to be a celeb or reality star who recently partied somewhere in Las Vegas. But where should a Vegas Virgin, who's also a hard-working mom, go to get her crunk on?
Reader Chris writes:
I’m taking my wife for her first ever Vegas Trip this July. She loves to dance and wants to hit a nightclub or two while we’re there. I’d love to take her somewhere where she could have a blast (hopefully generating more trips in the future) and where we could fit in. We’re a bit on the older side (she’s 33, I’m 41), but we still love to have fun and need a break from the kids. We’re staying at the Venetian but we’d go anywhere if it was the right place. Any suggestions on where a 30 something mom on a break could glam it up? Also not sure if TAO would be easier to get into or not since we’d be guests of the hotel.

We're always open to new experiences and when we were invited to a party where we could check out Marquee at The Cosmopolitan the other night for Party Rock Monday with Red Foo of LMFAO, we emphatically said yes! After all, we would be rolling VIP style for the night. That's right we skipped the ginormous lines (there were at least three lines of 1,000 people each or at least it looked that way), had our own table and booth next to the dance floor and were offered countless bottles of vodka.
We're not strangers to clubs, but we don't make them a regular stop when we go out. Once we skipped past the lines, we found ourselves at a table near the front of the club, a row behind the main dance floor. This was a great location as we were close to a bar, close to the dance floor and had relatively easy access to the restroom.

Labor Day weekend isn't the only thing you should look forward to this September in Vegas. Although, we. can't. wait. 'Cause it feels like it's been at least 25 days since the last holiday weekend, ya know? From a first look at the new Plaza to new eats, festivals, and more, here are six reasons why we can't wait for September:
1. Music (and yoga)
There'll be music everywhere in Vegas this September and we're not talking about up in the club. Not one, not two, but three big music festivals are set for September. You may have already heard about the sold out, but not really iHeartRadio fest set for the MGM Grand, but did you know about the music festivals set for Wynn and The Cosmopolitan?

A couple friends of ours were in town last week for some meetings. They wanted to take their meeting partners out for a good time. Instead of trying to get 40 dudes into a club (Tryst or XS, they all have one word names so we forget) themselves they called a VIP hosting service that would guarantee they all got into the club and had enough adult beverages on hand for everyone.
VIP hosting services can sort club entry, tables, beverages and transportation anywhere we want to go. Most importantly they can guarantee entry without waiting. This is especially helpful when on vacation with a bunch of guys. Clubs don't, necessarily, like when the dudes roll deep without any ladies.
We've used VIP host services a couple of times when we're vacationing in Vegas - usually for bachelor parties and have gotten into the super cool (regular) clubs and had booze waiting for us in the VIP area. There's something awesome being able to skip all the lines at the hot spots. We've also been able to have limos take us around to any other (adult) clubs we wanted to visit after hours.
There's nothing like a night filled with the loud pulsing beats of a party that seems like it just won't stop. Especially, when you're in your room high above it trying to get some zzz's.
"My friend and I debated on whether to spend our money on seeing Le Reve or attend the XS 2nd anniversary featuring DJ Deadmau5.
We ended up going to Le Reve, which bar none is the best show in town. However, as it turns out we really didn't miss out on Deadmau5 after all— My friend and I were really tired Monday night, but this XS/Deadmau5 event did not allow us to sleep a wink.
We were on the tallest floor of the Wynn, but I could hear the concert just as good as if I was waiting to get into XS. This party and DJ lasted all night long. Only at about 5 a.m. was I able to pull out the tissues that I had stuffed into my ears as rudimentary earplugs."
In the end, tho, Mathew discovered something that he wanted to share with everyone, if the Wynn is a rockin', they'll be a compin', too. And, in his case, that meant everything:

Why are they all looking the wrong way?
While we like xmas decor as much as the next person, we’ve spent the past couple of weeks wondering when we’d see a different kind of Christmas baubles than the boring stuff… and now, thanks to a trip to XS on Monday, we have found them.
All the ladies of the club were tricked up as Santa – from the go go dancers to the bartenders to the cocktail girls.
Unfortunately, the gentlemen didn’t follow suit. They were just in suits.
But hey, this is Vegas, we’re used to sexual inequality by now. Although it’d be nice if those Thunder From Down Under boys dressed up as santa and asked us to sit on their knee. Christmas wishes, eh?

We're told Cy claims he spotted Nathan Parada peering through a window and carrying two knives -- a large kitchen knife and a buck hunting knife. Cy immediately went outside -- with his weapon drawn -- and ordered Parada to drop the knives and lay on his stomach. We're told Cy kept his gun pointed at Parada until cops arrived.

Blinded by the (disco ball) light.
Ok, you may have heard that Lady Gaga is bringing her Monsters Ball tour to Las Vegas tonight and tickets are completely sold-out. (Well, you could still try your luck with some scalpers.) Yet there's a way to party in Vegas like Lady Gaga without actually going to see Lady Gaga--by hitting up the clubs. Specifically, clubs with disco balls! You know, for you to dance under with your disco stick. Here's our list of five places to seek out the glitterballs. (Hint: they aren't all at dance clubs.)
5. Studio 54: This nightclub may have lost its luster a bit since 2000 but tonight it will host the hottest party in town--the Semi-Precious Weapons concert after-party. SPW is opening for Gaga and she has been known to show up to their after-parties in the past. Naturally, this party will be overloaded. You're best bet of getting in? Being a go-go dancer or buying copious about of bottles.

Paris down at Drai’s the other week
Exciting times this weekend. Not only is the US-UK match kicking off tomorrow morning, but there’s going to be a face off in clubland (or, at least, there is according to Robin Leach).
Brody Jenner is hosting at Vanity tomorrow night, and Doug Reinhardt will be there to give him some BFF support. Meanwhile, not only will Nicky Hilton be hosting Pure the same night, but Paris, along with Brody’s ex Jayde Nicole, will be staking out XS with their new boyfs, nightclub impresarios Cy and Jesse Waits. Fireworks! Or not, as the case
will probably may be.

It's like, "Duh." Of course Las Vegas nightclubs would be snatching up all the awards for this year's Nightclub and Bar Awards winners form the Nightclub and Bar magazine.
Nightclub of the Year distinction belongs to Tao while the year-old XS at Encore won both New Club of the Year and Mega-Club due to its two levels of VIP seating, gaming area and outdoor pool area. Blush at Wynn won the Ultra-Lounge of the Year award and Palms DJ Paul Oakenfold won Best Resident DJ. Even the Hard Rock got in on the action with it's raunchy party-reality television show hybrid which won for Ongoing Promotion of the Year.
Nightclub news flows as regularly as the stream of redbull vodka from Sin City's bars and clubs but we expect even more news will surface later at the Nightclub and Bar Convention next month. We hope attendees get serious drink discounts.

The Wynn and Encore are practically synonymous with "lots of money" (and maybe old men) but tomorrow night, you can enjoy both of the resort's swank nightlife options for only $50. Even better, your money will be going to the Las Vegas Chapter of the Human Rights Campaign, the largest national lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization.
For tomorrow evening only, for just $50 per person, you can sip on cocktails at XS (starting at 7:30pm), then catch a 9pm showing of Le Reve and cap off the night with complimentary access to XS after the show. Seriously it's the best deal in Vegas this weekend, especially since Le Reve tickets begin at $99 a piece.
Tomorrow night's event is just one of many fundraisers the HRC will have this summer. The group's annual gala will be held on August 29 at Paris Las Vegas.
