The Transformation of Matt Goss: A Guide For Brits
Performing at the Palms. A far cry from Bros.
A few days ago our housemate was talking to some Brits over in Vegas, and was telling them about the Strip’s newest Singing Sensation That Is Matt Goss (™). Their response? Matt Goss from Bros? At Caesars Palace? As if.
People, we know it can be hard to think past the bleached hair, the fringed leather jackets and the ripped denim of his boyband days. In fact, we know this because we too were unbelievers, and we only had our epiphany when we went to see his show as a joke.
Last week we told Goss newcomers a few home truths about the sleekmeister’s shady 80s past, so we thought it only fair to provide the same service for those of you who last saw him in Bros. Expunge that from your memories, and start with a clean slate, because he’s been through five major changes since 1991.

10 Things You Need to Know About Matt Goss
It’s official – the Gossmeister is the talk of the Strip, and in honor of him, until his show opens, we’re officially renaming Mondays Matt Goss Mondays. This week: what America needs to know about him. Because he aint always looked like this.
Call it the Emperor’s new clothes effect. As the excitement from the Matt Goss Caesars launch died down over the weekend we had several people shuffling up to us and asking us, as token Brits, who exactly the Gosster was. Each said exactly the same thing – we’ve heard/seen that he’s awesome, but where had he sprung from? Sit back and let us inform you.

Matt Goss is Moving to Caesars (Also, We Lurve Him)
Talk about a Vegas transformation
UPDATE: thegossyroom just tweeted that there's going to be a "big announcement" at Caesars on Thursday. We. Can't. Wait.
The reason we went to see Matt Goss at The Palms on Friday? Retro amusement. See, back when we were growing up in 1980s England, Matt was one half of Bros, the pre-Take That Take That of their time. And although we were never Bros fans (Jason Donovan was the only blond we had eyes for in 1988), we thought it would be funny to see what Matt was trying his hand at now. Plus the $25 tickets seemed like a worthy investment for a classic Facebook status update.
Anyway, this morning we’d like to formally apologize to Matt Goss. We’re sorry we laughed at the “crazy Americans” forming a queue 40 minutes before the show started. We’re sorry we sniggered as we went in to find the lounge had been christened the Gossy Room. And we’re really sorry we spat our drink out mid-guffaw when our neighbours told us they’d heard Matt was a “huge star” back home. (With the best will in the world, he's really not.)
We take all of it back, because Matt Goss was amazing. Incredible. The best show we’ve seen so far on the Strip (and we, as we were informed yesterday, tend towards the highly critical).

Fiddy And The Black Eyed Peas Are Taking On Xtina For New Year's Eve
While Christina Aguilera will be getting down at Tao this New Year’s Eve, Caesar’s will be luring 50 Cent down to PURE to “perform” (as opposed to merely “hosting”, like Xtina).
Tickets are going for $150, with table rezzies starting at $2000 (four people, including two bottles of spirits). For a chunky $25k, 10 of you will get four bottles of Belvedere, the same of Dom Perignon, and a chance to shake hands with the Fidster himself. Reserve your tables here or get your pleb tickets at Vegas.com.
If you want more celebs for your money, you’ll need to hit LAX in the Luxor where the Black Eyed Peas will be doing their thing. Again, entry costs $150, while tables start at $3000 for six people. A table, booze, plus a meet and greet costs, again, $25,000. But with four of them to go around, that’s a lot more reasonable, no? No? Well Bette Midler's yours for $120.

How To Handle Getting Walked at a Vegas Hotel
Over at HotelChatter we told you about our recent experience trying to check-in at Caesar's. We figured now was a good time to give you a few quick tips about what to do if you attempt to check in to a Vegas hotel and they attempt to walk you.
What is "getting walked?"
When a hotel, or in the case of Vegas usually a "tower' oversells the hotel attempts to ship you off somewhere else for the night.
Can a hotel really deny your reservation?
Yes and no. An oversold hotel can ship you off to another hotel, though it is obviously a bad customer service move. Usually, the hotel tries to give you a better quality room at wherever they ship you off to, or give you a free dinner, or a free drink for your troubles. Worst case scenario should be-- they give you a comparable room at one of their towers.

Caesars Garden of the Gods Pool Area Now Half-Open
Major renovations have been afoot at Caesars since last fall. The big question is how on track are those renovations and how does the current state of construction effect your ability to bask in the sun at the Caesar's pool?
The Octavius Tower looks complete from the outside, however the project has been put on hold due to the "soft economy." But those in the know claim that the tower's interior can be made fully operational in "under three months", thus once tourists return to Vegas en mass the tower should open quickly.

Caesars to Open Additions to Its 'Pool Oasis' This Summer

When Harrah’s Entertainment, parent company of Caesars Palace, announced the hotel’s newest expansion almost two years ago, the plan was to enlarge and renovate the hotel to the tune of $1 billion, the centerpiece of which was to be the new, 665-room Octavius Tower.
Of course, this was back when $1 billion represented a somewhat reasonable figure for a stalwart Las Vegas hotel looking to capture an even greater portion of the enormous Vegas tourism cache—and not the symbolic figure for bank bailouts and scandalous Wall Street ponzi schemes.
Needless to say given the current economic climate, expansion plans have been scaled waaaay back (hope to see you soon, Octavius Tower). But lest we forget those savvy folks at Harrah’s know a thing or two about where there bread is buttered, they went ahead with the expansion of their Garden of the Gods Pool Oasis.

Would You Pay a $1,000 for a Room at Caesars?

There's still a recession going on, right? Well it seems as if someone forgot to tell the folks at Caesars. We were doing some deal-hunting today and clicked on the "Hot Deals" links for this Harrahs property. While we were initially jazzed to see $90 rooms on April 29 and 30th, our jaws almost dropped when we saw a rate of $1,000 for April 25th.
Yes, we know that's the day that Britney Spears is in town and yes, we also know that the 25th is the last day of the World Poker Tour and that Cher returns to the Colosseum that night but seriously, a $1,000? And it's not even a suite. It's a regular old Roman Tower room.
No thanks, we'd rather stay at Venetian for $269 a night or The Flamingo for $247. Maybe we'll even splurge on an upgrade.

Only Classic Rooms at Caesars Available for Vegas Uncork'd

With less than a month to go until the return of the annual Vegas Uncork'd we thought we'd check in on the room rate and availability situation. If price is your biggest concern, we think you will be rather pleased.
Caesars Palace, where so many of the foodie festival's biggest events are taking place, still has rooms open for an average of $146 a night during the festival (May 7-10.)
However, these are the old classic rooms at Caesars which are found in the Roman and Centurion towers. Classic is another word for "old." But if you're intent on staying at Caesars, this is the best you can do as the rest of the hotel is entirely sold-out. Use code PCUCR to book.
At the MGM Grand, another big pit stop, rooms are a little cheaper at $99 for May 7 and a $139 for May 8 and 9. Again, these aren't the best rooms in the house but they are available and they are cheap. The hotel's West Wing rooms (small but with a boutique decor) are also available for about $10 more each night. Go through the special MGM Grand Uncork'd page to book.

Elton John's Red Piano to End at Caesars But Bette is On Her Way

The Colosseum at Caesars Palace is one of the most technologically advanced performance spaces in Las Vegas. No wonder such big-name headliners like Elton John, Bette Midler and Cher only want their shows to be held on that stage. But unlike former permanent headliner Celine Dion, Elton, Bette and Cher pop into Vegas for a series of shows intermittently throughout the year. So if you are booking your trip around seeing Elton John's Red Piano show, then you better head to the Strip soon.
