What Went Down At CES and the Porn Expo
We're not laughing at this pic. Honest.
So the dust has settled, the bedrooms have been vacated and the blow up dolls are being removed form the Convention Center – CES and the Adult Entertainment Expo are no more, and we’ll have to look elsewhere for hard partying geeks and fake boobs thrusting into our personal space.* Time for a post-coital analysis of how things went down.
The triumphs of CES focused mainly on the 3D revolution and other neat products like the Pop Box. The fallout? Slightly more amusing. One missing tooth, one broken “unbreakable” phone, and many people’s dignity.
And looks like the geekery, erm, rubbed off on the porn folk too, because they were all about 3-D, apps, and (seriously) sexbots. Wild Wendy? Frigid Farrah? For $9000? We may just have expunged them from our memory by the time next year rolls around.
Meanwhile, roaming the Strip we saw plenty of partied out techies but not as many slutty starlets as we were expecting. Could there be some correlation between those two facts?
* “Elsewhere” basically meaning the Hard Rock.

The Geeks are Recreating The Hangover At CES
Somewhere on the Strip, this was happening this morning
We always knew geeks like to let their hair down, but partying to Hangover proportions? We’re impressed. The Twittersphere was awash this morning with CES attendees logging the parties they’d been to but the one that really caught our eye came from @jpuopolo.
He started yesterday off well tweeting about “booth babes” and “cool tech”. Then he told us he was off to the CNET party at the Palms. At 2am he tweeted that “Trying to behave in Vegas is like trying to keep a fat kid away from a smartie”.
Looks like he ate the smartie. Because at 8am he made the following announcement:
I totally just lost a tooth in Vegas during a CNET party for CES - I totally feel like a character out of the Hangover
Dear Jpuopolo, we have no idea who you are, apart from that you come from Toronto, but you are officially our favourite CES attendee. And if you send us a toothless pic, we’ll give you another smartie.

Unwind and Upload at Terrace Pointe Cafe's CES Happy Hour

Terrace Pointe Cafe at The Wynn made our list yesterday for places with free WiFi in Vegas so it makes perfect sense that the bar is doing a Happy Hour every day of CES.
From 3 to 6pm, beer and specialty cocktails like margaritas and sangrias are $7 while tapas range from $4 (guac and chips) to $10 (triple play angus beef sliders). Plus you can take out your laptops and not converse with anyone IRL because this time of the year, everyone's doing that!

The Porn Expo Wants You. Yes, CES People, You
Look, geeks! This could be you and your new 3D, wireless cameras!
Of all the things going down in Vegas at the moment, you’d think the Adult Entertainment Expo would be the least likely to need to resort to discounting tickets or plying for business.
But no, in this recession, it seems people will even think twice about splashing out $80 on a ticket to a pornfest. So the AEE is offering $5 off entry (hur hur) to CES attendees. Because everyone knows that bad girls love geeky guys, right?
All you have to do is bring along your badge to onsite registration, and you can’t use this alongside any other discounts. Non-discounted rates are $80 per day or $220 for the full three days, plus a $3 processing fee whichever option you go to.
If you’re a female CES attendee and don’t fancy paying for a sausage fest, you could always hit up Rok Vegas at New York-New York tonight, where Ron Jeremy is hosting a party for Naughty America. With Ron looking in fine fettle, that should definitely be one for the girls*.
*VegasChatter cannot be held responsible for counseling fees incurred through the trauma of sharing a club with Ron Jeremy. Sorry 'bout that.

Happy CES Geeks Are Working Hard, Playing Hard, and Watching Taylor Swift in 3D
Sony CEO Howard Stringer. Someone who does let Taylor Swift finish her speeches
The future of gadgets? 3D. And the immediate future of CES delegates? Very happy indeed. We’ve been following the techie tweets this morning and even though they’re up pretty early, getting their techie game on at 8am, they seem remarkably excited. Good news for all of us.
Our friend is currently raving about a 3D Samsung TV (he says “it will blow your mind”) and Sony have been showing off 3D PS3s. They too have 3D TVs – in fact, little Taylor Swift did an impromptu concert on one last night as part of the presentation.
But it’s not all work and no play. Our favourite tweet comes from DJ Irie from Miami, who’s not only doing the CES stuff, but DJing at Tao tonight. And he was up for a 7am flight to Vegas this morning:
Gettin' ready for 24hrs of Vegas tomorrow! CES in the afternoon then rockin' at TAO at night! Vegas Check-In!
That’s the spirit. DJ Irie, geeks of CES, we salute you.

What’s In a CES Geek’s Suitcase?
We like to think of ourselves as tech-savvy when traveling, but we have to admit to being outdone by our friend who’s currently in Vegas for CES. We wanted to know what a CES geek takes with him to impress the other tech-heads, so he sent us over this picture of his kitbag. The Macbook Air is pretty recognizable but if you’re stuck on the rest of cables and doodahs, here's a rundown:
Macbook Air
Blackberry Curve
Sony Ericsson cellphone
Samsung camera
Kodak ZI8 camcorder
Memory sticks and cards (various)
Shitloads of leads and chargers.
And yes, this is the same friend as the one who’s staying at the Venetian. Please don’t burgle him now. We’re sure there are much richer pickings at the Bellagio.

More Places to Log On Without Paying Up

We hope you brought your wireless card with you.
If you're headed to Vegas this weekend for CES or the Adult Entertainment Expo, chances are you're gonna need a WiFi connection for all your uploading, downloading, Twittering, Facebooking, blogging, and other, ahem, recreational activities.
The bad news is that in the privacy of your hotel room, expect to pay at least $10 a day to sign on. Sadly, there really no hotels where in-room WiFi is free. There are, however, plenty of public options. You just have to know where to look.
Our big sis HotelChatter has culled together a list of tried and true WiFi hotspots on the strip based on our own experiences as well as the knowledge of Vegas expert @24K aka Chris Rauschnot, who is constantly up and down the Strip reporting on the scene--all from his cellphone.
So the next time you find yourself in Vegas for a conference or just some good old debauchery, here's where you can get connected.
Are you reading this from a free WiFi spot in Vegas right now? Tell us where you're at.

If You Find A Room You Like, Should You Stay or Should You Go?
Is this as good as it gets?
So we have a techy friend over from London to attend CES. He’s been at the Venetian since Monday, then is down to switch to the Mirage on Friday. The Mirage was cheaper over the weekend, and he thought it would be cool to check out two different hotels.
Until, that is, he arrived at the Venetian, and sent us the following over-excited email:
I have the most amazing suite at the Venetian - gonna be a real come down on Friday when I move to a normal room at Mirage
He sent another one a couple of hours later, saying that actually, it wasn’t a suite – it was just so nice that it seemed like it. And he wondered whether he should just fork out the extra to stay on for the weekend, because the room at the Mirage couldn’t possibly be any nicer (the fact that some Adult Expo parties were taking place at Tao probably also played a part).

Do You Eat Geek? Six Quick Fixes for CES
Oh no, this just won't do. It's too healthy.
As you already know CES (Consumer Electronics Show) is in town this week and geek culture will be in full form as nerds from around the world talk iPhones, tablets and – be still our beloved pocket protectors – high-def monitors. While we expect the conversation to be constant, the cyber-hungry masses are bound to hungry. Geek food is definitely not gourmet cuisine. We know many brilliant minds that have been fueled on leftover pasta, honey roasted peanuts and 32-oz. Big Gulp’s of Coke.
Here are your standard issue geek’s six can’t-live-without food categories and where to sate the needs in Las Vegas:

It's The Most Wonderful Time of The Year...For Techies and Porn Stars

It's that time of the year again, when CES arrives in town! The Consumer Electronics Show begins on January 7 and lasts through Sunday. While many attendants will be on the lookout for tech trends to watch in 2010, no doubt a few of them will be distracted by the Adult Entertainment Expo which is also taking place this weekend.
Considering that the internet is keeping the porn business alive, it should make for a very celebratory weekend, we thinks.
Hard up to look at hard drives and porn stars but in need of a room? Unfortunately, your options are limited as rooms are nearly sold-out on the Strip. Here's what a cursory search on Expedia and some hotel websites yielded:

Geeks and Pornstars are 'Gearing Up' for January 7

In a scheduling move that would make a brilliant reality show (we’re thinking a more hardcore Beauty and the Geek), the geeks and the pornstars will be hitting the Strip on January 7.
The CES (Consumer Electronics Show) will be taking place at the Las Vegas Convention Center, while the Adult Entertainment Expo is, erm going down at the Sands Expo. Both run until January 10.
The same scheduling clash took place last year so obviously the powers that be deemed it worth a rerun.
Last year, the AEE revealed that the porn industry was facing hard tough times, poor lambs, so we’re excited to know what the scoop is for 2010. If it’s still tough out there, maybe the geeks can wade in with some gadget advice. Yum.

Where Sexy and 'Techie' Collide on the Strip

This past January, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) and the Adult Entertainment Expo (otherwise known as the Porn Convention), were scheduled at the same time at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Happy accident or inspired genius? After all, when it comes to titillating the techies in Las Vegas, the undercurrent is downright…well, sexy.
At eyecandy sound lounge & bar in the center of the Mandalay Bay casino floor, interactive touch tables allow users to create messages and project images above the dance floor, giving a “high-tech twist to the classic cocktail lounge."
The Beatles™ Revolution Lounge at The Mirage offers similar opportunities to woo and wow. VIP tables use infrared technology to allow guests to create art on their tabletop, which they can then project onto a central column in the lounge.
Tabu Ultra Lounge at MGM Grand takes it one step further, with tables featuring motion-sensitive images that are then projected onto tabletops—further tapping into what makes techies tick.
