Labor Day Insanity: Downtown Is Still The Cheapest
It’s no surprise that rooms are still available for this Labor Day Weekend. But if you plan to make Las Vegas your end-of-summer, last-hurrah destination, you’d do well to book now as room rates are creeping up.
That’s true especially among the middle- and lower-tier properties around town. According to Expedia.com, you can still get a smokin’ deal at properties downtown (average room rate at the The Plaza for the weekend is $45 per night; the El Cortez is $51 per night and the Four Queens is $74 per night), but some of the less desirable places on the Strip have shot up past the $100-per-night mark. Circus Circus alone stands below that benchmark at a reasonable $96 per night for the three-day weekend, while places like Excalibur are going for $124, Imperial Palace for $127 and Sahara for $112.

An Open Letter to Circus Circus

Dear Circus Circus :
You have us so conflicted. Your renovated rooms are nice. Really nice. Surprisingly nice. The dark wood furniture, the plush bedding, the flat screen, the granite in the bathroom. If we didn’t know better, we’d think we were farther south down the Strip, in something with an Italian-sounding name, perhaps.
The people that work in the hotel? Very nice, friendly, and helpful too. Even the food—super cheesy pizza for dinner in the Pizzeria and a light, fluffy egg white omelet with a generous helping of fresh melon on the side the next morning at the Casino Cafe—was pretty good.
The people who stay with you, however... they are another story. We nearly lost it on a group of three men behind us during check-in who felt entitled to continually make comments about how kids shouldn't be allowed in the check-in line. Ummm, if you don't want to see kids running around, don't stay somewhere with circus in the name, let alone twice. Pony up the extra hundred-or-so bucks and go stay at the Wynn.

Criss Angel Afflicts Vegas With 'Affliction' Shirts and Other Mindfreak Gear

For all of you who want to look and be just like Criss Angel (and you know who you are), it’s now as easy as a visit to Circus Circus. Envelop yourself in all the Angel-ness at the magician’s third official Mindfreak store, which has opened on the second floor of the hotel, just across from Adventuredome.
It's a curious location, to be sure, but one that could possibly benefit from tired and dizzy teens just off their tenth go-round on the Canyon Blaster who stumble in on their way out of the amusement park.
If you’re looking for an Angel-designed Affliction tee (cause who isn’t?!), this is the place to go. On Angel’s site), they sell for $100. In store, you’ll only have to pay half of that to look like death-warmed-over-gone-uber-goth-chic. Angel’s DVDs are also more affordable in the store—$30 instead of the $50 you’ll pay on the site.

Circus Circus Has New Rooms That We Would Actually Book

Say you’re searching at your favorite online site for a room in Vegas, and price most definitely is an object. And let’s just say the best deal on the Strip that turns up is at Circus Circus. And maybe you haven’t gotten excited about seeing a midway act in 20-plus years and ever since you saw Stephen King’s "It" miniseries you’re deathly afraid of clowns. So, you’ll just stay at the Motel 6 or Budget Suites a few blocks away, right?
Not so fast. Circus Circus has 999 redesigned rooms in its West Tower, all of which were outfitted with an eye to sophistication, not the Big Top.
