This is Steve Wynn's Favorite Drink

Where: 3131 Las Vegas Blvd S [map], 89109

The next time you find yourself in the Eastside Lounge, the sexy lounge just off the casino, that overlooks the pool area at Encore Las Vegas, order yourself one of the Berry Infusion drinks. Why? Well, apparently it is Steve Wynn's favorite drink (so said our cocktail waitress.)

As you can imagine, the Berry Infusion is an incredibly fruity drink. It consists of Skyy Vodka and peach schnapps infused with fresh pineapple, blueberries and strawberries and costs $14. But hey, if it is good enough for Steve Wynn, it is good enough for you. 'Nuff said.

The High-Low Appeal of Garth Brooks at The Encore

December 14, 2009 at 1:22 PM | by juliana | 1 Comment

After we took this photo, Purple People yelled at us.

If you find yourself strolling around the Wynn and Encore properties these days, chances are the one and only song you will hearing blaring from the Wynn's outdoor speakers is "Friends in Low Places." And yes, that's because country superstar Garth Brooks has officially kicked off his semi-permanent residency here. (Wynn might be playing his other songs but the four different times we were outside the hotel, it was that ultimate bar crowd pleaser playing.)

We were invited along with several other Vegas media folk to attend the 10:30pm showing of Garth's concert on Saturday night, his second night in town.

With tickets at a healthy rate of $143 (including tax) for any and all seats, front row or back row, we're here to tell you exactly what you're gonna get. Well, not exactly since Garth might be taking different requests when you go. Yes, he takes requests.

How to Get Garth Brooks Tickets for Friday (But Also, Be Realistic)

Where: 3131 Las Vegas Blvd South [map], 89109
December 9, 2009 at 5:59 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

So the big day is getting near--Garth Brooks first concert at the Encore Theater. Yes, tickets for his first batch of concerts have been sold-out since the end of October. But all hope is not lost.

There reportedly are some tickets available due to ticket cancellations and the discovery that some tickets belonged to scalpers and other unscrupulous folks., etc.

Ok, let's be clear here: your chances of getting Garth tickets for this weekend are SLIM TO NONE. But if you feel the "thunder roll" and you know that you've got "friends in low places" working magic behind the ticket booths and that God will not leave you with this "unanswered prayer" and that "somewhere other than the night", these Garth tickets were meant to be yours, there is a way to try.

Whether You Run The Marathon or Sleep Through It, Here's How Encore Suggests You Relax

Where: 3131 Las Vegas Blvd South [map], 89109
December 4, 2009 at 8:27 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Taking a break from all the CityCenter Madness, we'd like to remind you that the Las Vegas Rock n' Roll Marathon is taking place on Sunday!

As the official host hotel of the race, The Wynn Las Vegas is pulling out all the stops for marathon runners and supporters. One place inside the Wynn and The Encore that we expect to be pretty busy this weekend? The spas.

But with so many relaxation options to choose from, we sought out Ella Stimpson, director of spa operations for The Spa at Encore, to suggest some post-Marathon treatments, whether you're a runner or not.

Taste of Wynn Has Closed To Make Way For Garth Swag

November 20, 2009 at 10:51 AM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Thanks to the tweets of Two Way Hard Three's Hunter, we were tipped off that Taste of Wynn inside Encore has closed.

How could this be? The retail shop devoted to all things culinary at Wynn and Encore had just opened on October 1. Well, the official word is that the shop closed to make room for an entertainment store that will feature merchandise from Le Rêve, the property's nightclubs and the forthcoming Garth Brooks concerts. A rep for Encore tells us:

Given the proximity to the theaters, this made the most sense. The Taste of Wynn store was a great success and we intend to relocate the concept to Wynn LVNV in the near future. We will continue to explore other opportunities for Taste of Wynn at both properties.

In the meantime, you can buy your Wynn/Encore-branded goodies at not only Wynn LVNV, but at the XS store (while it's still around) and either one of the Wynn/Encore sundries stores. But may we suggest skipping the purchase of an Encore t-shirt and taking a chance on the tables instead? This is Vegas. You're supposed to "risk it all!" not come home with a hotel-branded t-shirt.

Agassi Sans Infamous Hairpiece Will Be Signing Books at Encore Tonight

November 9, 2009 at 5:52 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

We grew up playing tennis in the late 80s so Las Vegas' hometown hero Andre Agassi was one of our tennis idols. Yes, despite the crazy hair which we've since learned was a gnarly hairpiece. Thanks to his soul-baring memoir, Open, we've also learned that Agassi was doing some meth during the final days of his career and that Brooke Shields forced him to wear shoe lifts on their wedding day. (Sign #1 that you and your bride are headed for divorce.)

But still, we've got to give Agassi credit for being so...um...open about his life on the pages of this new book, where he talks not only about his hairpiece and his drug use but the extreme pressure he faced as a child from his father to be the world's best at tennis.

So we really hope he's getting the full Wynn red carpet treatment today at the Encore where he'll be signing books for Las Vegas residents inside the Encore Theater. The whole event will start at 7pm tonight but if it's too short of notice, he'll do another signing on November 22nd at the Costco in Summerlin on South Pavillion Center Drive. Go out and support Agassi if you can! But maybe leave the questions about the hairpiece alone?

As Predicted, Garth Brooks Sells Out The Encore

Where: 3131 Las Vegas Blvd S [map], 89109
October 26, 2009 at 12:03 PM | by juliana | 1 Comment

If you weren't up at 8am on Saturday to buy your tickets to Garth Brooks for his first five weekend shows at Encore, then you probably didn't get squat. Wynn Las Vegas said the shows were sold out by 1pm. Is it too soon to call Garth the savior of Vegas? Probably, yeah but if he can replicate these numbers for every weekend show, then we may change our position. The LV Sun writes:

During the course of the day, Wynn Las Vegas’ box office Web site received more than 5.4 million page views. The resort took more that 140,000 calls for tickets and had 40,000 people waiting for tickets in the online queue at any given moment.

Your only hope of getting tickets for this first batch of shows--Dec. 11-13, Jan. 1-3 and 22-24, Feb. 12-14 and 26-28--is picking up returned or unclaimed tickets. The price will still stand at $125. Or you could hit up eBay for two tickets at $460 on January 23. Hmmm...yeah, we're gonna pass on that offer.

UPDATE: Word on The Strip is that Wynncore may void tix that were bought for over $143 (the total ticket price after taxes.)

Garth Brooks Confirms Vegas Dates; Steve Wynn Wears Cowboy Boots

Where: 3131 Las Vegas Blvd South [map], 89109
October 15, 2009 at 7:38 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Earlier today, Garth Brooks and Steve Wynn were on a stage in Western gear confirming Garth Brook's new gig at the Encore Theater. The show will run for 16 weeks, starting in December and Garth will be doing this sort of weekend stint for the next five years.

The Kats Report says specific dates for the first batch of shows are Dec. 11-13, Jan. 1-3, Jan. 22-24, Feb. 12-14 and Feb. 26-28. Show times start at 8pm, with a second show on Saturdays at 10:30pm. Prices for all seats will be $125 but there will be no "tiered" ticket pricing.

To which we say, WTF? We pay $125 even for the worst seats in the house? Hmm...we bet there's gotta be a way around that. Tickets go on sale October 24. And that's the biggest news in Vegas today. Here's what else is on:

· CityCenter's Aria will get a fantastic looking sculpture designed to make us think about our water consumption. [LV Sun]
· Tweens of drinking age can party with the Twilight vampires at the TAO Halloween Bash [Jaunted]
· Versace opens in Caesars Palace [Twitter]

Steve Wynn Has 'Friends in Low Places': Garth Brooks Set to Perform in January 2010

October 14, 2009 at 12:14 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

According to Robin Leach's Twitter, Garth Brooks will be coming out of semi-retirement to do 16 weeks of shows, starting in January 2010 at the Danny Gans Theater at Encore.

There have been rumors circulating for a while that the country crooner would take up Steve Wynn on his offer but it looks like Garth will confirm it himself tomorrow at noon.

Whatever your feelings on country music (we happen to like it), Garth Brooks will be a great addition to the Strip. He's not too ancient, he's not too cheesy (yeah, Barry we're talking to you) and he's not the kind of performer that we have to do a post about with the title, Who Is?. He's also the kind of act that men and women can both comfortably attend together. We love Cher and Bette but they can be a hard sell for straight men.

Lastly, we're guessing Garth will command a high ticket price. Maybe nothing like Beyonce but something akin to the folks who play at Caesars Palace. Robin Leach even expects the shows to sell-out quickly. In this case, we hope "one of god's greatest gifts is" our answered prayers for Garth tickets.

Taste of Wynn Sells Hotel Chefs' Favorite Food and Gadgets

Where: 3131 S. Las Vegas Blvd. [map], 89109
October 6, 2009 at 11:40 AM | by Jennifer Kester | 0 Comments

If you came to Vegas to dine at the restaurants of Wynn chefs such as Daniel Boulud or Alessandro Strata, you'll also want to make a stop at the hotel's Taste of Wynn. The new boutique is stocked with gourmet ingredients, cooking tools and other food-related items that were hand-picked by the top toques in the Wynn and Encore.

When you enter the shop, which opened Oct. 1, you'll see photos of each chef accompanied by their names on the top of each shelf, which holds that particular chef's choice items. Under the mug of SW Steakhouse chef David Walzog, you'll find Shun steak knives. "They are without question the sharpest, sexiest-designed steak knives I've seen," Walzog says. If you go to Stratta's cases, you can check out the gnocchi paddle the two-star Michelin Award-winning chef uses at his Alex and Stratta restaurants.

Among James Beard Award-winning chef Paul Bartolotta's cooking items is Botegga Del Vino glassware that he uses at home and for reserve wine pours at his restaurant, Bartolotta Ristorante di Mare. The Lario slicer that Sinatra chef Theo Schoenegger uses to get perfect hand-cranked slices of prosciutto, salami and other charcuterie is also featured.

Could You Be Chillaxing at the Encore Beach Club This Summer?

Where: 3131 Las Vegas Blvd South [map], 89109
September 29, 2009 at 4:56 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Encore "switches" it up with a beach club.

While the pool party scene is nearly over, that hasn't stopped Las Vegas from planning for Summer 2010. Word on the Strip is that Encore Las Vegas is going to rip out its front entrance on Las Vegas Boulevard and build a...wait for it...wait...beach club. Norm Clarke writes:

The Strip-facing nightclub and beach club will tie into atrium space and connect with Switch restaurant, so named because sliding walls create a new decor throughout the evening.

A 2010 summer opening is planned at the as-yet unnamed club, which will join Encore's megaclub XS and Wynn Las Vegas' Tryst and Blush Boutique. According to rumblings, the surprise is that the new club will be operated by Sean Christie, rather than Victor Drai, who is in charge of XS and Tryst. Christie runs Blush nightclub at Wynn.
