The Vegas Twitterverse imploded earlier today with talk of the sudden closures of First, Rattlecan (pictured above) and The Act at Venetian/Palazzo. When the rumors settled, two of the three were accurate.
A spokesperson for First Food & Bar and Rattlecan, both concepts by Chef Sammy DeMarco, released this statement in response to the chatter:

This is what happens when we brainstorm story ideas before eating. For those about to eat, we're sorry. For everyone else that can't wait to eat, we salute you with an all almost (actually not even close if you can believe it) encompassing upcoming Las Vegas foodie event wrap-up.
LAS VEGAS' FIRST FOODIE FEST
Silverton Casino Hotel
Saturday, April 28 (noon to 11 p.m.) and Sunday, April 29 (noon to 9 p.m.)
Family friendly food and fun with over 30 gourmet food trucks, 15 food vendor booths, a farmer’s market, eating contests, beer garden, carnival rides and games, live chef demos, a tequila party tent, live bands, DJs, and after parties. Trucks you may know include White Rabbit Truck, Fuku Burger, Vizzi Truck, Devilicious and Mangia Mangia. Tickets are $7 in advance or $10 at the event. To buy said tickets or more info, visit Las Vegas Foodie Fest.
First Food and Bar inside the Palazzo has been on our nom nom list for quite awhile, whether for the slutty, wet drinks or the exceptional food itself of both the lighter and heavier variety. Not that we needed one, but brunch is yet another reason to frequent First.
Sunday brunch here is advertised as First Class. And even if the kitchen served up fresh cow patties you wouldn't step in with your crappiest boots, it could still officially claim First Class status. That's because brunch takes on an airline theme where all guests are treated as First Class Passengers and staff dons steward and stewardess uniforms. Fortunately the food is also First Class while free of high fuel charges and pension plans.

We took our first trip to watch pro football at the brand new Venetian sportsbook last weekend. Even though we got to the games at 8:30, seats were already hard to find because almost one third of the sportsbook was empty.

Until recently we never thought that Thanksgiving in Vegas could be cool since it's a family first holiday, but when we thought about it some more we realized that Thanksgiving at a casino could be just like the holiday tradition we grew up with, only better.
Growing up we'd do nothing more than watch football, eat too much and watch more football. Now we realize we can have the same thing only having the games on TVs as big as the house we grew up in and food prepared by someone that could actually cook (sorry, mom).
When we were considering moving to Las Vegas we met Julia B at First Food & Bar, in between Venetian and Palazzo, for drinks and snacks. That day will forever be etched in our minds as a special day and First Food (and their sangria) will always be a part of that memory. We've visited First a couple of times since and find it to be one of the better bar-restaurants on The Strip and one that many don't know about since it's kind of hidden in the shops.
We've always enjoyed First Food and Bar at Palazzo for its greasy hangover cure and it's L Lohan drink but the other day we slid into First with a different mission--something healthy and something vegetarian.
Looking at the menu, it didn't seem easy to do The First Bites section, or appetizers, are all meat or seafood dishes. In fact, much of the menu is dominated by chicken, steak or seafood. Not that there's anything wrong with that but this time, we were looking for a lighter fare to nibble on in between meetings.
The grilled cheese and tomato bisque had us interested but we feared it might be too greasy. The plain caesar salad would have sufficed but we feared it was a little too boring. Then we saw the First Chopped ($13) and like Goldilocks searching for her porridge, it was just right.

When being thankful means being grateful someone else is doing the cooking...
Spend hours upon hours in the kitchen? Or let a relative labor over a holiday meal?
The choice for many is simple - get a complete stranger to do it.
Thankfully (no pun intended), Las Vegas has you covered for Thanksgiving. Here's where to gobble up a holiday feast on November 25 - from luxe to just a few bucks - without having to wear an apron first.
Guy Savoy at Caesars Palace will have one of the most decadent holiday meal offerings in the city. A limited-time white truffle menu features a pumpkin-and-white-truffle soup served in a 25-pound pumpkin (yep, just like the one pictured above!). Guests also will enjoy white truffle risotto and guinea hen with, you guessed it, white truffles.
$390 per person. Service starts at 5:30 p.m.
Ah, our mistake. That’s not the Lohan at First, but the L Lohan - a cocktail inspired by LiLo herself (weak joke, sorry).
The ingredients? Well according to the menu, order the L Lohan and you’ll receive a “red-headed slut with coke”. A red-headed slut at FF&B means Jager, peach schnapps and cranberry juice. Then (for giggles?) they add a splash of coke and (sugar) powder on the straw for good measure.
We tried it recently and it was very pleasant – more tart than we’d expect from the Lohan (no sniggering at the back there).
All in all, not as good as the Red Eye Mojito but nice nonetheless. And as the boys we were with found out, for ordering purposes, you can’t really beat it.

First Food & Bar will be one restaurant serving up dishes poolside. If you want to be first for the food consider a VIP ticket.
Just yesterday we were reminiscing over Restaurant Week 2010, wishing for another week, and looking forward to next year. Turns out we don’t have to turn the page quite so quickly in order to feed ourselves around town for a good cause.
While not quite Restaurant Week, the Las Vegas Epicurean Affair takes place Thursday and is a lot more convenient. Instead of having to narrow our dining choices based on restaurants you can find time to visit in person, the restaurants will come to you.
As big fans of Tasting Las Vegas, we normally think that anything the fine people behind that like, we should like too. And seeing as they’re always banging on about First Food & Bar at the Palazzo, and First always does interesting things like a wing eating contest and – its latest event – a Luau to celebrate the anniversary of Hawaii becoming a state on August 21 at 9pm, we thought it was time to go check it out.
So we checked it out a couple of weeks ago and you know what? It was so good we checked it out again, and then again. They may have taken off things like the Dobranksi Burger off the menu, but we’re glad to say there’s plenty more to accommodate your tastes.

Ice cream. Matt Goss. Rabbit holes. Just setting you up for your dreams tonight, ladies. You're more than welcome
At the Palazzo, tonight marks the first night of $20 Bottomless Bubbly at Laguna Champagne Bar. Pay $20 and get unlimited refills of Domaine Ste Michelle Brut from 8pm to midnight. From tonight, it'll run every day until further notice (although they say it’s a “limited time” deal).
Down at Caesars, meanwhile, Serendipity 3 is throwing an Unparty - free entry, free cocktails and beer from 9-11pm, as well as free “cupcakes on a stick”. A DJ will start up at 10pm, there will be go-go dancers to eye up, and a competition to win a night’s stay, cabana and all important Gossy tickets. From the “Wonderland” and “come down the rabbithole” references on Facebook, it looks like it’ll be Alice in Wonderland-themed. Insert your own “Matt Goss can come down my rabbithole anytime” joke here.
President Obama isn’t the boss of how your spend your college funds. In homage to Obama’s visit this week to Vegas and his opinion that people shouldn’t "blow a bunch of cash on Vegas when you're trying to save for college," First Food & Bar inside The Shoppes at the The Palazzo is hosting “Sammy D’s First College Fund Happy Hour” tonight (which we name-checked yesterday.)
The night hosted by Chef Sammy D will feature drink specials, including the O’bama Slammer. Other specials will run from 4 to 7 p.m., including Philly Cheesesteak Dumplings, Mini Burgers and Lollipop Wings, plus Dorm Room Mac ‘n’ Cheese and, of course, the college key to getting shitfaced fast - Jell-o shots.
A portion of the proceeds from the night will go to a local culinary charity.
