When Jack-Hammering Is Your Wake-Up Alarm

We all love Vegas, but that's not to say that some things don't get under our skin. That's why we created Vegas Rants to let you get it all off your chest, heave a big sigh and move on to the next fun thing.
Earlier this week, we heard from a recent Vegas visitor who grabbed our attention with the headline, "Flamingo Construction HORRIBLE!!!!" And, you know when there's four exclamation points, sh*t just got real:

This Month, (Some Of) The Jokes Are On Caesars

With April Fool's Day being so anticipated and expected these days, it's hard to play a proper prank -- something that was obvious to anyone who followed along with the mainstream news last week.
Companies made their best attempts at corporate humor. Google pretended they were introducing a few new products, such as Google Nose -- a joke that fell flat on its face. We also saw other phony products and services such as pizza-flavored Tic-Tacs, glass-bottom planes, and promises of good-looking delivery boys. Um? Then we have juvenile stuff like this floating around YouTube which had us scratching our head. Is this really the best we've got?
The saving grace is that Vegas, in particular Caesars Entertainment, is celebrating humor (or the lack thereof) all month long in the form of discounts to comedy shows and performances. Here's a roundup of the deals so you can see which tickle your funny bone most:

Where You Can Buy Your Way Into A Vegas Pool (And, Not A Pool Party, Either)

Just because you're staying at one Vegas resort doesn't mean you're limited to that pool. Certain Vegas hotels will let you buy your way in to soak up the sun, and we're not talking about those adults-only pool parties, either. Here are a few of the Strip pools that will let you pay to play:
Caesars Palace
Garden of the Gods
$20 admission fee for non-hotel guests Friday through Sunday (must be 21+)
Daily, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
*Complimentary entry for up to four guests with a Caesars Palace or Nobu room key
Planet Hollywood
Pleasure Pool
$10 cover charge for non-hotel guests (down $10 from last year)
Free if a guest at another Caesars Entertainment property
Daily, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

CES Brings New Technology To Some Caesars Hotels

Coinciding with the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) last week, Caesars Entertainment debuted some pretty cool technology for their casinos. Actually, the TecTiles NFC (Near Field Technology) tags are only available at Caesars Palace, Harrah's, Paris and Planet Hollywood, for now. Before diving into what exactly this new tech stuff provides, we should tell you that it's only available to those of you with a Samsung Nexus mobile phone or tablet. (No iPhone, boo!)

NFC tags simply deliver information to a mobile device. By touching a mobile device to one of the tags, Caesars will be able to send details and information for different casino games, shows, shopping, etc. Through these tags, you'll be able to receive gaming tutorials, buy tickets to shows, and more. The NFC sign above is located when you walk into Paris from the valet area. The NFC tags have also been placed on slot machines throughout the casinos so you can just grab the information when playing a game.

Chaos. Balls. Beer.
We're always curious to experience new things in Las Vegas. Even though the World Series of Beer Pong (WSOBP) has been around for almost 10 years we needed to see what it was all about in person. The WSOBP was exactly what anyone would imagine, times 10.
The WSOBP is held in a ballroom that you probably never realized existed, far away on the second floor of the Flamingo. On the first day of WSOBP, there were about 100 tables set up. The action was chaotic with that many games going on at once. The loud up-tempo mix of rock, pop and hip-hop only made things feel as if they were moving faster. People were dancing, taunting, jumping around, drinking and having a great time.
Imagine the old beer pong area at O'Sheas, but 10 times larger. This was a bro event. There were bro's dressed like it was Sunday afternoon and there were bro's in uniforms and then there were two awful performing bro's in bath robes that probably used WSOBP as an excuse to visit Las Vegas (and who could blame them).

Show Off Your Beer Pong Skills, Win $50K

Another year nears closure which means many sports enthusiasts have another year of beer pong practice under the beer belts. The 8th annual World Series of Beer Pong returns to the Flamingo January 1-5 to hand out $70,000 in suds soaked prize money.
The best ponger from a field of teams expected to exceed 500 will take home $50,000 while those with more creative tastes can take aim at other prize money, including $5,000 in costume prizes. It should be noted that the WSOBP doesn't discriminate against non-beer drinkers. Official WSOBP rules - yes, rules - allow for cups to be filled with beer, water, or any liquid. Water? Beer drinking athletes of the world, please don't let us down.

National Hotel Chains And Casinos Are A Great Match

One of the first time's this writer visited Las Vegas, he stayed at Planet Hollywood. The only reason we chose Planet Hollywood was because they were affiliated with Starwood.
We could get points to use when we travel anywhere in the world. We used our A-List players club card to earn a few points to use in the casino on our trip. Planet Hollywood became our go-to vacation spot in Las Vegas. Now, Starwood is out at Planet Hollywood and Total Rewards is the only club to use when booking hotel rooms at Planet Hollywood. This is fine for the gamblers, but others won't be turned on to Planet Hollywood in the same way.
Way back before Halloween, we shared a rumor that Tropicana will be partnering with Double Tree and Hilton HHonors. That rumor was confirmed days later and, on December 12, Hilton will begin taking reservations.

Flamingo Has The 'Ultimate Male Fantasy'

Watch out, Cosmo. Flamingo can do WTF out-of-the-box ad campaigns, too.
Instead of pantless bellmen and random bunnies, however, Flamingo is weirding us out with one guy's trip to meet the girlfriend's family or, as their ad team terms it, "the ultimate male fantasy":

Reminder: Don't Act Like a COMPLETE Jackass In Vegas

Las Vegas has a higher tolerance than most vacation destinations. Tourists come daily to let off some steam and do stupid shit that will be an inside joke among friends for years to come. But, over the weekend, two men failed to keep dumbassery within the limits of the law and to remember that Las Vegas is still on planet Earth and within the U.S. borders.
Two 24-year-old law students from University of California-Berkeley (allegedly) hunted a 14-year-old helmeted guinea fowl into the bushes of Flamingo's Wildlife Habitat to behead it.

Nathan Burton Disappears From Flamingo, To Reappear Down The Strip

Flamingo magician Nathan Burton is still plastered larger than life -- and upside down -- on the side of the hotel (just check the live cam), but he's vanished from the resort's website and its box office.
VegasChatter fan sammasseur informs us that the Flamingo's box office has posted signs saying that Burton's show has been "cancelled until further notice." An overheard conversation between two employees yielded the further information that the magician's production has been cancelled and that Burton is jumping ship to the Saxe Theater at Planet Hollywood.

When It Comes To Hotel Rooms, A Which Would You Rather No One Would Rather
Last month, we stayed at the Fremont Hotel and saw the strange brown tub above and wondered how dirty it may be. We couldn't see anything, but the color let our imagination run wild and made us think the worst. This stay at the Fremont Hotel didn't show us the cleanest bathroom, but it wasn't awful.
When comparing the FAB room at Flamingo to a Go room a major difference was the non-updated dirt-stained bathroom in the FAB room, but it looks as if we didn't get the worst of it. A recent review of the FAB rooms on Trip Advisor seemed to have an equally bad experience.
