Free WiFi, Ace Staff: We Heart NY-NY's ESPN Zone
Here’s something to put a spring in your Tuesday step: not just free WiFi, but free WiFi that comes with a smile and offers of help to get you on your way.
We were after some Stripside time on t’internet last week, and consulting our trusty VegasChatter free WiFi list, we plumped for the ESPN Zone at New York New York.

Nice Lobby, M, Shame You’ve Nixed The WiFi
We had two places to be last night: on our laptop, working, and at the M Resort to watch a friend’s band. A good combo, we thought – seeing as the M has free WiFi in the lobby, we’d work and listen at the same time.
But when we got to the lobby (very pretty, FYI), we found no signal. And the lady at the check-in desk told us not to bother looking, as it was only available in-room now. “We’ve actually been working on sorting that out,” the lady told us. “Because people who weren’t staying at the resort were coming in and using our wifi, so we’ve had to lock it”. Digital Nomad fail!
She then said we could have a go but doubted we would find a signal, and she was right. In fact, we couldn’t pick up any signal in the lobby, password-protected or not.
We did pick up what looked like the resort’s network in the Ravello Bar but obviously it was locked. Which, we guess, is fair enough – it’s still there for residents, after all, and the M abolished its resort fee a while back. But we can’t help thinking that the off-Strip resorts should probably be a little more accommodating of visitors. ‘Cos we very much doubt they’d be flooded with WiFi chasers, what with being so far away, and even if it was, they could probably do with the custom. Not being rude or anything, but it wasn’t exactly slammin’ last night.

More Places to Log On Without Paying Up

We hope you brought your wireless card with you.
If you're headed to Vegas this weekend for CES or the Adult Entertainment Expo, chances are you're gonna need a WiFi connection for all your uploading, downloading, Twittering, Facebooking, blogging, and other, ahem, recreational activities.
The bad news is that in the privacy of your hotel room, expect to pay at least $10 a day to sign on. Sadly, there really no hotels where in-room WiFi is free. There are, however, plenty of public options. You just have to know where to look.
Our big sis HotelChatter has culled together a list of tried and true WiFi hotspots on the strip based on our own experiences as well as the knowledge of Vegas expert @24K aka Chris Rauschnot, who is constantly up and down the Strip reporting on the scene--all from his cellphone.
So the next time you find yourself in Vegas for a conference or just some good old debauchery, here's where you can get connected.
Are you reading this from a free WiFi spot in Vegas right now? Tell us where you're at.

Sugar and Ice Has Now Turned Into The Pizza Place
We've always loved the old-timey malt shop and cafe Sugar and Ice at Wynn Las Vegas, mostly because of its waterfall views and the free WiFi but the ice cream and sweets weren't so bad either!
That's why it's a good thing that although the shop has changed names to the generic Pizza Place, the free WiFi has remained. The menu hasn't changed that much either. There is still gelato on-hand, as well as sandwiches (which are more of the Italian sub variety) and salads but as the name implies, pizza pies are now yours to be had. Cheese slices start at $4.25, 12" pies at $12.50 and 22" pies at $27.50.
The Pizza Place is open Sunday through Thursday from 9am to 11pm and until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

Get Free WiFi With Your Quinoa Sandwich at Whole Foods at Town Square

365 bottle of water: 79 cents. Wireless Internet Access: Free. Working from Whole Foods in a booth undisturbed: Priceless.
Leaving Las Vegas the other day we decided to head out on Las Vegas Boulevard towards the 15, passing the famous Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign, when we realized that we were starving. We debated over heading to the In-N-Out but instead we settled for a healthy salad (booo!) at the Whole Foods at Town Square.
The Whole Foods, like the rest of Town Square, is new and blissfully tourist-free. Well, ok. Maybe there are a few tourists doing some shopping at stores like Abercrombie, Banana Republic, H&M and Old Navy or eating at California Pizza Kitchen and Brio Tuscan Grille or perhaps downing martinis during happy hour at the Blue Martini. But everything is way calmer than the madness of the Strip. And there are no casinos here. Phew.
Anyways, after grabbing a BBQ chicken salad and some fruit, we plopped down in one of the booths that line the front of the Whole Foods. Then we noticed the store had free WiFi AND an outlet on the wall under our table. Glory be to god!
So we ended up eating and working from the Whole Foods for the next few hours--free of charge. Well, you do have to show proof of purchase when you're sitting in the booth but still, it beats the hefty in-room WiFi charges.

Would You Like a Happy Meal With Your Free WiFi?

Since Las Vegas hotels are notorious for charging steep internet rates in the rooms, we're keeping a running tab of places on the Strip where you can get free WiFi. Know of any hotspots we don't? Send us the location here.
As you already well know, finding free wireless inside the money-gobbling hotel casinos in Las Vegas is impossible. If you want to surf the net in your underwear in your room, then be prepared to pay at least $12.95 a day. And that doesn't even mean you will get a wireless connection. Most hotels are still loving the ethernet cables.
However, one place totally loving on the free WiFi is Viva McDonald's, a new flashier outpost of McDonald's which opened last December across from The Riviera Hotel and Casino.
The McDonald's looks better than any other Mickey D's you ever been in before. A media center full of 14-flat-screen TVs hangs from the ceiling on a circular rack and features vignette content from the McDonald's Channel, Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet and the Science Channel. But don't worry, there's still a Drive-Thru service!
Alas, LifeHacker tested out the free WiFi in January and said the signal was pretty bleak. At least you can get a happy meal out of it.

Free WiFi Found at The Venetian

Since Las Vegas hotels are notorious for charging steep internet rates in the rooms, we're keeping a running tab of places on the Strip where you can get free WiFi. Know of any hotspots we don't? Send us the location here.
Thanks to our initial report on where to log-on without paying up, a VegasChatter reader was able to seek out three places with free WiFi service. But she let us know of a new place-- the food court at the Venetian, near the Phantom of the Opera theater. And that's not the only place here.
We've personally used the free WiFi down at the Food Court in the Venetian's Grand Canal Shoppes near the Coffee Bean. It was a little slow but free nonetheless. Plus, we learned today that the pools at the Venetian have free WiFi as well. Just make sure you don't leave your computer out in the sun.

Where To Log On in Las Vegas Without Paying up

A Vegas nightmare: Only ethernet internet connection for $13.95 a day.
You can log on to the Internet from nearly any hotel room in Las Vegas, but, like the late homecoming and far-too-many free cocktails of the night before, it’s gonna cost you (Prices start at $10.99 and go way up).
Thankfully, there are several places you can go in Vegas for Free WiFi like the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf locations, Maryland Parkway or Lake Mead Blvd., all area Panera Bread stores and Buffalo Wild Wing locations, the four It’s a Grind coffee houses in town, and the three Krispy Kremes.
Even better, there are a few places you can head off to that are right on the Strip. Here are a couple of places that we like.
