The Westin Casuarina Has Weekends for $99 a Night (and Change)

In our never-ending quest to find cheap rooms on the weekends in Vegas, we've come across a new low rate at the Westin Casuarina Hotel, Casino and Spa located across from Bally's on Flamingo.
What we like about the hotel is that all of the guest rooms are non-smoking and the casino is far less hectic than any of the other Strip casinos. We actually spent an entire night playing blackjack here because we liked our quiet but full table and our dealer/philosophy teacher. (Don't worry, we got wasted as well.)
We're also digging the hotel's excellent weekend rate of $99 a night.

Is There Too Much In-Room Tech at ARIA?

Full disclaimer. We’re not the most tech-savvy gal in the world. We don’t own an iPod. Or an iPhone. And we definitely don’t have our sights on the latest and so-called greatest iPad. We like modern conveniences, but when we checked into ARIA Resort & Casino a few weeks ago as part of a CityCenter hosted media trip, the Control4 in-room technology system proved to be a royal pain-in-the-ass and we lost count how many times we cursed the almighty bedside and televised command central.

What is Going on With The Cosmopolitan Hotel?

Anyone who's visited the brand new CityCenter may have found themselves wondering if that equally large, shiny, blue building wedged between Aria and Vdara was another part of CityCenter that had yet to open.
The truth is, this is the Cosmopolitan Resort and Casino project which is not associated with CityCenter although they do share an entrance on Harmon Drive.
The Cosmo (can we call it that?) is expected to open sometime in the near future. Its Wikipedia entry says June 2010 but it's probably going to be more like December 2010 or early 2011.

Trump Drops To $99 a Night With New Offer

The non-gaming, non-exciting Trump Las Vegas may not be one of our favorite places in Las Vegas but you can't deny that they consistently have great rates and deals for their all-suite accommodations.
The newest "Golden Getaway" offer (a nod to the hotel's golden exterior) is available from now through March 30 and offers two nights starting at $99 a night with a $50 hotel credit and a 4pm late check out. The credit can be used at the DJT restaurant or the hotel's spa and should take away the sting of the $15 resort fee. The offer is also throwing in two for one tickets to Mystère up the street at Treasure Island for just $79.
To book, call (866) 471-0438 and mention “Golden Getaway” or visit www.trumplasvegashotel.com and enter code 50HOTL. There is a two-night minimum and just so you know, Mystère is dark on Thursdays and Fridays.

Room Rates Looking (Gasp!) Do-Able for Super Bowl Weekend
Pass out here at Encore for only $274 a night.
Next weekend is Super Bowl and we thought the rates at the hotels in Vegas would be going up, up, up. But they are actually looking pretty--dare we say it?--normal. MGM Grand rooms are at $150, Flamingo Las Vegas is at $109 a night and the Venetian and The Palazzo are holding steady at $209 a night (don't forget the $15 resort fee.)
Caesars Palace, however, is upwards of $330 a night but Wynn and Encore are just $279 and $274 a night, respectively.
We were on the hunt for five-star digs for less so we turned to Hotwire last weekend. We were able to nab a suite-sized room for $144. We aren't allowed to divulge where we're staying but we say give Hotwire a whirl if you want to go lower than what the regular booking sites are giving you. (Just remember these tips.)

The Tropicana Is Looking Like a Hooters-Hard Rock Hybrid

Oh heyyyyyy....Vegas.com (via the LVSun.com) was able to get a sneak peek at the model renovated rooms that are coming to the Tropicana in a few months.
The hotel is finally updating the rooms in its Paradise Tower, which have reportedly remained unchanged since 1985. Whoa.
The rooms will include 42"flat-screen TVs, "an incredibly comfortable mattress", a chaise lounge and artwork from Cuban artists. Looking at the new digs, we are getting a little excited for The Trop, even if the rooms remind us a little bit of Hooters with a twist of Treasure Island and the fact that the Trop's new peppy website reminds us a bit of the Hard Rock.

We Can See What's Happening In Your Hotel Room So Just Admit It
You've just arrived in your fancy spacious Vegas suite and what's the first thing you want to do? Take off your clothes and run around naked, of course! Just be careful because we are quite sure that folks can see you if they look hard enough. Or not at all, really.
This was taken from the top of the Wynn's parking garage and we're quite positive someone saw us stripping down at Vdara recently. Hotel sheers and blackout shades were invented for a reason kiddos. Use 'em if you got 'em.
On the other hand, if you do catch people getting randy in their hotel rooms, we might be interested in knowing about it! Actually, we are really into that. Here's how to let us know:
· Become a Member: Sign up to VegasChatter to become a member and comment on our stories.
· Follow us on Twitter: Find us on Twitter and @reply us what's going on. Somebody leave their panties behind at the pool? We kinda wanna know that.
· Send Us Photos: Join our Flickr photo pool and drop in all of your Vegas snapshots.
· Email Us: Of course, we take emails too. Whatever way you wanna get in touch, we're here for you!

The Fontainebleau Will Live On, Thanks to Carl Icahn
Finally some good news for The Fontainebleau, the half-finished resort next to Encore that has been struggling to find new financing. It turns out billionaire investor Carl Icahn is the winning bidder for the property, which developer Jeffrey Soffer drove into bankruptcy last year.
Yet, don't expect the hotel to open any time soon. The WSJ reports:
Mr. Icahn said in an interview that he hasn't determined whether or not he will slowly gear up to restart construction on the Fontainebleau, or keep it mothballed for some time. People familiar with the project say even that would be costly. They estimate that heating, cooling, security and taxes would run about $1.5 million to $2 million a month on the property Mr. Icahn said he doesn't believe he will be able to raise much financing for construction. His firm could finance the construction itself if it wanted to, he said.

If You Find A Room You Like, Should You Stay or Should You Go?
Is this as good as it gets?
So we have a techy friend over from London to attend CES. He’s been at the Venetian since Monday, then is down to switch to the Mirage on Friday. The Mirage was cheaper over the weekend, and he thought it would be cool to check out two different hotels.
Until, that is, he arrived at the Venetian, and sent us the following over-excited email:
I have the most amazing suite at the Venetian - gonna be a real come down on Friday when I move to a normal room at Mirage
He sent another one a couple of hours later, saying that actually, it wasn’t a suite – it was just so nice that it seemed like it. And he wondered whether he should just fork out the extra to stay on for the weekend, because the room at the Mirage couldn’t possibly be any nicer (the fact that some Adult Expo parties were taking place at Tao probably also played a part).

Remember, There's a $100 Late Check-Out Fee at The Hard Rock

Whether you're off to see John Mayer perform on New Year's Eve at The Joint at The Hard Rock Hotel or if you're frantically practicing your glo-stick moves for the opening of the new nightclub Vanity, there's a very good chance you've booked yourself a hotel room at the Hard Rock too.
If you haven't, no worries, the hotel still has rooms open...for a hefty price. Rooms in the old casino tower start at a hefty $499 a night while rooms in the newish Paradise tower are holding steady at $519 a night.
But don't forget, the Hard Rock's new HRH Tower has opened today. Rooms are currently sold-out tonight but open up again tomorrow for $129 a night for a supreme city view king bed. A pool view room is $20 more and a supreme deluxe corner king is $169. Unfortunately, rooms skyrocket to $649 a night on New Year's Eve.

Can You Guess The Sweet Suite with the Killer View?
Over at HotelChatter, we like to play a little guessing game called Guess the Hotel where we post pictures of hotel rooms, list a few easy to medium hints and then ask readers to drop their guesses in comments below.
Since Vegas is so much more than hotel rooms, we'll have to come up with a cleverly named guessing game of our own. But for now, see if you can guess which Sweet Suite this is:
· This suite is located in a separate wing from the main hotel and has its own entrance.
· The suite has one bedroom and one and a half baths.
· The place is brand-spanking new.
Ok, we hope we didn't give it all away with that last hint but if you think you know the answer, drop your guess in comments below. Extra scratch n' sniff stickers go to the person who can give the full name of the suite.
