Whether baseball is just a filler for football's offseason or your primary sports drug of choice, MLB's trading deadline is an annual milestone Monday morning quarterbacks everywhere take note of. It coincides with the end of most fantasy baseball periods that determine whether your team is going..all...the...way or simply dumping useful players to a college buddy for his championship run. This year it also marks the suspension of several players for their primary drug of choice.
Whether you're riding the Reverse Cowgill to victory or putting the Mauer Patch Kids to bed, it's time to put the baseball brain in cruise control and get ready for some football. That means 'tis the season for some football contests! Here are the ones we know about. We'll add more as we discover them

It looks like we've got a bit of eating in our future. Ok, a lot of eating. Enough eating that we're seriously eyeing our preggo pants for the luxury of an expanding waistband. New restaurants, offerings, and happy hour specials are cropping up and down The Strip. Good thing we're not opposed to dining 'round the clock, or chucking our dignity.
At Luxor, Rice & Company will make its debut this Friday. You'll find the Asian restaurant right next to the Carrot Top/FANTASY/Menopause theatre. The menu will offer both Chinese and Japanese fare like the Orange Beef dish pictured above as well as chef speciality rolls like the "Kiss of Fire," a spicy tuna roll with shrimp tempura, jalapeno and caviar. Just swig some sake if things get a little too heated and hope an "a" doesn't replace the first two letters later on. Rice & Company will be open for dinner service only.

Erik Estrada. Midget wrestlers. Real Housewife cougar Tamra Barney and boytoy Eddie Judge. If you're looking to get loco on Cinco de Mayo, how about starting at a place that will make you feel like you've hit Crazy Town before you even begin to drink?
Estrada will preside over the mayhem once again which will include food and booze offers like $5 shots and $5 Dos Equis. The Half Pint Brawlers (made famous on Jackass 3D) will hype of the crowd and also take on guests filled with liquid courage in how-low-can-you-go limbo contests. Get cray-cray starting at 11 a.m. on May 5.
If that's not enough, here are eight other fiestas for Cinco de Mayo:

Our recent feast at Addiction: yours for $2(ish)
This is where you should probably surrender and just succumb to the belly. If you’ve held strong through the $12.99 dinner at Ago or any of the other deals we’ve been mentioning lately, this one will definitely get you.
There are 130 restaurants to choose from within five miles of 89109 and we found, or rather, bought, coupons for, among others, Rare 120, RM Seafood, Hussong’s, Top of the World, Origin India, Foundation Room, Mix and our new favey, Addiction at Rumor.
We said this before about the whole Paris Hilton thing, but we totally have psychic skills. Because we were planning a post for this week on the portrait of Norm Clarke we found lurking at Hussong’s, and then last night the man about Vegas town himself tweeted that it was the 11th anniversary of his LVRJ column. As we said, psychic.
Anyways, in honor of Norm’s Vegasversary, here’s that picture of his portrait. It takes pride of place in Hussong’s, above the TV next to the bar and we were galvanized by it as we drank our margarita.
Happy anniversary Norm! Here’s to 11 more scoopy years, and then some.

The tequilas at Dos Caminos await. ¡Ándale! ¡Ándale! ¡Arriba! ¡Arriba!
National Tequila Day is tomorrow, July 24. A day for enjoying the finer points of tequila. For sippin’ a drink and feelin’ fine. This splendid holiday falls on a Saturday this year, meaning most of us will have all day to partake in the celebration of the spirit. Or just have a reason to get completely plastered and place the blame for that splitting headache come Sunday.
Here are some of our top spots to celebrate your new found tequila fetish:
The line 30 minutes in
We popped to Hussong’s for a quick margarita before the Rihanna concert at Mandalay Bay on Saturday. Nicely loaded, we headed over to the gig at 7.45 (the concert was due to start at 7.30), only to find the Will Call queue about twice the size of the Caesars check in line at 6pm on a Friday.
The upshot? We queued for a good 45 minutes, missed Ke$ha, who was opening, and finally took to our seats to find the place less than half empty – the other half of the audience being in the queue to pick up their tickets still. What a fun Saturday night!
We've already told you where the best pre-show dinners are as well as what are this summer's hottest concerts but now there's an option for you to gnosh before you mosh at Hussong's Cantina. Or as they're calling it--Grub for Stub.
The restaurant is inviting concert goers with tickets to shows at Mandalay Bay or Mandalay Beach to show up early, park in valet at The Shoppes at Mandalay Bay and head into Hussong's with their ticket stubs. Upon showing the waiter their concert tickets, diners will get a complimentary appetizer with the purchase of an entree.
Clockwise, from top: the tongue, goat meat, beef cheek and steak
It’s been a while since anyone crooned at us, so as we were in the Mandalay Bay vicinity last night, we thought we’d stop by for a pep up at Hussong’s Cantina last night, courtesy of the Rock n Roll Mariachis.
But on arrival, we were told the R&RMs have just gone back down from performing every night to only at weekends. Devastating news! The only explanation can be that chief chefman Noe Alcala was getting jealous of the attention they were getting over his food, no?

Reviews are always highly subjective things, obviously, and one man’s juicy brisket can be another’s glorified ketchup (yes, P.U.B., we’re talking to you). So before we tell you what we thought of our trip to Hussong’s Cantina, in The Shoppes at Mandalay Place, we thought we’d give you the verdicts of some other people we know.
Our housemate: “Very good, I’d go there again”.
Our colleague (who went straight after opening): “Great food, poor margaritas, appalling service – we had to wait an age to get our drinks, and our waitress didn’t know what she was doing”.
Our friend who lives between London and LA: “Possibly the best meal I’ve had in America”.
Sexiest gossip columnist alive, Norm Clarke: “There’s a kickin’ mariachi band, but the most addictive menu item might be the grilled corn on the cob”.
Our view? Here goes.
As you might have noticed had you been following our Twitter feed last weekend, we have a new group in danger of overtaking Matt Goss in our musical affections at the moment. Who could possibly remove the halo from the Gossmeister, you might well ask?

We’re about to declare this officially open
Ole! Hussong’s Cantina opens today in The Shoppes at Mandalay Place. We found it at the weekend lurking next door to the Burger Bar and opposite Lush. And when we peered through those curtains (because they’re kind of teasing us, seeing as they’re not entirely covering the place), this is what we saw:
We’re liking the posters on the walls, and we’re loving the pillar box red they’ve used. And those tables look pretty well spaced out as well.
Don’t forget, either, that this is the place which promised “the best party every night”. We’d like to say we’ll be judging it harshly, but if their margaritas really are “unusually strong” then we’re pretty much sold already.
