Don't Plan on Primping at American Fish

March 30, 2010 at 7:21 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

This is the ladies room at American Fish by Michael Mina located on the second floor at Aria. American Fish is a beautiful-looking restaurant (despite the cringe-worthy name) and we're a big fan of Michael Mina. Except the bathrooms make it impossible for you to check out your hair. Just sayin'.

Here's what else is on in Vegas:
· Here's more on why Nevada's first male prostitute has given up the gig. [CBSNews.com]
· The Cosmopolitan names chefs for its resort including Scarpetta, Blue Ribbon and Comme Ca. [LV Sun]
· Former Playboy Bunnies Holly Madison and Kendra Wilkinson took some Stripper 101 classes. Not sure if they need them though! [@Stripper101LV]
· It's windy today folks! We pray you're not flying in today. Those flights can be brutal [KTNV]
· Chris Brown has not place to party in Vegas. Waaah. Perhaps he should have thought of that before he decided to lay his hands on Rihanna. [Fox5Vegas]

Get Beer and Oysters on the Cheap at Seablue

Michael Mina may have expanded his Vegas empire with AMERICAN FISH, his new restaurant at Aria (which we sampled yesterday and could sum up in three words: oh. my. goodness) but he's still finding new ways to please at his other properties, like Seablue at MGM Grand.

Seablue has an incredibly affordable happy hour in the bar area from Sunday through Friday. Starting at 5:30pm and lasting through 7:30pm you can get $2 draft Stella Artois, $1 oysters and gulf shrimp from the raw bar, half price Lobster Corndogs ($7.50) and Salt And Pepper Calamari ($5).

It’s a fairly limited deal, but you want to gorge on beer and shellfish, it’s one of our favorite deals on the strip. Plus, who can resist the crusty, fried cornmealy goodness of Lobster Corndogs?

CHEF ORGY!

As we've been telling you for quite some time, the restaurants at Aria Resort and Casino are going to require some serious stomach training.

During the CityCenter Grand Opening madness, we were able to sample bites at each of the restaurants as well as admire the restaurant spaces. Since we will probably roll out individual restaurant reviews throughout the year, we're only going to concern you today with photos of the restaurants.

We've broken it down into two parts: Upstairs and Downstairs.

The Upstairs restaurants, placed near the Viva Elvis theater on the Promenade, include: Sirio, Michael Mina's American Fish, Jean-Georges Steakhouse and The Buffet.

The Downstairs restaurants include: Blossom and Lemongrass off the casino floor; Sage, Julian Serrano, Bar Masa and the forthcoming Todd English gastropub off the lobby and registration; Jean-Philippe Patisserie and the casual Cafe Vettro near the back entrance of Aria.

For some reason (probably: vodka cranberries) we didn't snap a picture of the Cafe. D'oh. Sorry for that. We'll get right on it. For now, enjoy the food porn and chef orgy.

Note: There are even more eateries than the ones we photographed here but these are the ones with the big chef names behind 'em.

The Five Best Steakhouses on The Strip

Where: 89109

Before Las Vegas’ dining revolution, the city’s culinary map was dominated by three things: the buffet, the 24-hour coffee shop and the steakhouse which was, depending on the hotel that housed it, alternatively referred to as the "gourmet room." Anyway, in the post-Wolfgang Puck era, steakhouses live on in Vegas and every one that made it onto our Top Five list offers a decidedly contemporary take on the genre.
