Don't You Forget: Casino Security Will Mess You Up Quick

March 3, 2010 at 4:42 PM | by Mr Pappagiorgio | 2 Comments

"The real crime here is not having Kate Bosworth is this picture, Larry."

You’ve seen how Hollywood plays out the scene. Casino security monitors the blackjack table from the eye in the sky, confirms the savvy gamblers cheaters are counting cards, then sends Larry Fishburne down for a loooooooooong, slow walk to the table. Then either a calm discussion convinces the heroes culprits to follow security to the “office”, or chips are jammed into pockets before the winners scoundrels head for the exits. In both cases, security never breaks stride or works up a sweat.

While we believe most things we see in movies and are anxiously awaiting our turn to fly to another world and hang out with hot, blue skinned chicks, Hollywood seems to underestimate just how quickly casino security can move.

Lance Burton Knows How To Stop You Taking Photos

Where: 3770 Las Vegas Blvd S [map], 89109
February 25, 2010 at 12:07 PM | by juliab | 0 Comments

Well, here’s one way of stopping those pests who like nothing better than to spend an entire concert/show/speech taking photos (unless, of course, those pests are us, taking entirely necessary snaps for this website. Ahem).

We noticed this strict little sign at the Lance Burton Theater at the Monte Carlo last night. It says that not only are cameras etc prohibited during the performance (like anyone takes any notice of those signs) but that if you do do as everyone else does and break the rules, your equipment will be seized and your film destroyed.

The Cupcakery is Now Giving Out Sugar Shots at Monte Carlo

January 14, 2010 at 7:15 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Just after the CityCenter Grand Opening madness, another opening of the sticky sweet variety was happening inside The Monte Carlo--The Cupcakery opened.

Located near what might be the fanciest Starbucks in Vegas, the cupcake shop sells gourmet cupcakes (duh), coffee and even, shots:

The Cupcakery has become a favorite of locals and tourists alike with signature flavors including Kir Royale, a raspberry cake with champagne frosting; Tickle Me Pink, a classic white cake with pink buttercream frosting; and the award-winning Southern Belle, a moist red velvet cake smothered in cream cheese frosting.

The bakery also offers frosting shots for those seeking a quick dose of sugar without the cake. Customers on-the-go can enjoy the Monte Carlo Travel Special which includes one cupcake and a large coffee for $6.

The shop is open Sunday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Check out the goodness to be had here.

Is This The Fanciest Starbucks in All of Las Vegas?

Where: 3770 S. Las Vegas Blvd [map], 89109
December 23, 2009 at 1:29 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Last week on the eve of the CityCenter Grand Opening, we found ourselves meandering through Monte Carlo so we could ride the tram from MC to The Crystals.

And just before the tram station, right next to The Pub, we spotted the fanciest Starbucks of all of Vegas.

Check it out! Look at those modern red couches and what about those grey leather chairs? Don't forget the pretty calligraphy art on the wall that is actually a subliminal device to get you to buy more Starbucks. Even better, the line is only two people deep!

We're quite shocked a casino-hotel would go for this sort of eye-pleasing and comfortable Starbucks location. Don't they want people out gambling instead?

Got a favorite or a worst Starbucks location in Vegas? Tell us where it is here.

Another shot of "The Fanciest Starbucks" is after the jump.

What's Under The Table at Diablo's Cantina?

December 22, 2009 at 5:43 PM | by juliana | 3 Comments

Why it's a half-empty giant bottle of Ocean Spray cranberry juice. We found this interesting "souvenir" dining at Diablo's Cantina at The Monte Carlo the other week. The Mexican food was good and the drinks got us drunk but we still prefer Dos Caminos at the Palazzo for Mexican food on the Strip. We're suckers for their guacamole, their classic margaritas and the fish tacos.

What's your favorite place for Mexican food on The Strip? Let us know here.

Sitting On Top of The World In a Hydrotherapy Tub

November 4, 2009 at 9:24 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

We've talked a lot of big game about the Hotel32 atop the and indeed, big money is what you will need to stay in one of the hotel-within-a-hotel's penthouse suites. Approximately $1,000. So you should take advantage of the hydrotherapy tubs that are in the suites. These tubs will massage you every which way and even offer up some in-tub mood lighting. Aaaaaah.

Foie Gras Meet Vodka. Drink, Then Vomit.

Where: 3770 Las Vegas Blvd. [map], 89109
November 4, 2009 at 6:52 PM | by globetrotting gourmet | 3 Comments

Imagine this in your martini.

PETA, please don’t give us hell, but we love foie gras. We also love martinis, maybe not quite to the Joan Collins extent, but when we do imbibe in spirits, it’s our cocktail of choice. Call us skeptical, but we’re not convinced the two world’s should ever collide, much less in the icy cold comfort of a tall, stemmed glass.

We subscribe to a strict policy of never mixing more than one fruit juice into a cocktail, unless it’s adding a squeeze of lemon or lime. Gawd forbid the co-mingling of meat (much less offal) with our liquor, not to mention the introduction of sugar and spice. The liquid horror.

So the burning question was to hurl or not to hurl, when we heard about the Foie Gras Martini ($18) at André's in Monte Carlo Resort and Casino. Sigh. The sweet and savory concoction contains roasted foie gras, whole vanilla bean, honey, André's signature vodka and macerated Oregon huckleberries as the garnish.

If you just so happen to swing by André's and are brave enough to sip on one of these meaty delights, please post your feedback here. We’re mostly repulsed, but still kinda curious. Opinions, please.

Checking In On Hotel32 at The Monte Carlo

Where: 3770 Las Vegas Boulevard South [map], 89109
October 27, 2009 at 6:46 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Hotel32 opened in August atop the Monte Carlo and aside from touring the suites and rooms and chatting with a family that spent a night there, we really haven't heard much about how these boutique rooms are doing. So we decided to check out the reviews on TripAdvisor.

Upon first going to the review site, we noticed that a traveler's photo of herself is actually slotted as a photo of the hotel. Um. Disregard. We have plenty of photos here.

Looking further on the site, there wasn't much to add as there are only three reviews on this page. However, the second reviewer while loving the Hotel32 rooms felt that the Monte Carlo casino was lacking, especially in terms of beautiful people. What? Lance Burton is not sexy?

But it was good to know that the Hotel32 does live up to its promise of airport pickup and a dedicated Suite Assistant. Room rates are holding steady at $250 a night for a small Studio suite.

Have you stayed at Hotel32? We wanna know if it's worth the money. Send in your review today.

Elton John Madden Signs 10-Year Deal at Monte Carlo

Where: 3770 Las Vegas Boulevard South [map], 89109
August 24, 2009 at 3:09 PM | by Erika Pope | 0 Comments

This is one of the happiest developments we’ve charted in recent weeks on the Vegas entertainment scene: beginning October 12, former Mad TV and Fox NFL Sunday regular Frank Caliendo will have a regular gig at the Monte Carlo.

We have to say we like the changes going on at the MGM MIRAGE company’s sleeper resort. Until recently – what with the new, clubby pool atmosphere, addition of the ascendant Zowie Bowie to the entertainment lineup and opening of Hotel32, the luxurious, hotel-within-a-hotel that now occupies its top floors – hasn’t really had a lot to talk about.

Monte Carlo's Old Brew Pub Will Re-Open Sept. 2 as Simply, 'The Pub'

August 21, 2009 at 4:17 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Hmm...that didn't require much brainstorming, did it? The Monte Carlo has just announced that they will be re-opening the old Brew Pub as The Pub come September 2, just in time for football season. So much for the whispers of a new nightclub. From the official press release:

This fan favorite hangout is getting a makeover and introducing new beer selections and a new menu to enhance watching the game, listening to Zowie Bowie every Friday and Saturday nights or playing an intense game of beer pong....

The Pub will have more than 50 "distinctive" beers on tap including some international variety of ales, lagers and stouts. Just as trendy as beer pong tables these days are create-your-own burgers and The Pub will be offering this on their food menu, allowing pub-goers to choose from more than 30 ingredients. Fifteen specialty burgers and the usual pub fare (appetizers, flatbreads, etc.) will round out the rest of the menu.

For now, the space is covered up by one of those annoying yet effective Monte Carlo ads with the play on words (above.) "On Tray", get it?

Inside Hotel32's New Must-Book Rooms at The Monte Carlo

Where: 3770 Las Vegas Boulevard South [map], 89109
August 12, 2009 at 8:22 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Yesterday, we gave you a quick rundown on what to expect inside Hotel32 atop the Monte Carlo and today we're giving you some room porn to admire as well as a video of the Studio rooms (see above.)

Whatever your thoughts are about the Monte Carlo (so-so casino, lack of cool restaurants or nightclub), staying at Hotel32 is an entirely different experience than staying in rooms on the 31st floor and under. A dedicated suite assistant, bypassing the long lines at check-in, pre-stocked minibars and access to the Hotel32 lounge with its drinks, food and views of CityCenter are just some of the perks you receive while staying here. And speaking of housekeeping cart kleptomaniacs, Hotel32 features Kiehl's bath products. Aaaaaahhh.

However, all rooms are not created equal here. Heck, all rooms don't even look alike.

Hotel32: The New Must-Book Rooms in Vegas

Where: 3770 Las Vegas Boulevard South [map], 89109
August 11, 2009 at 4:34 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Alright so scratch everything we wrote yesterday. Hotel32 is indeed open and fully functioning. It even hosted its first guests last night and this morning, the folks at MGM Mirage invited us in today for a tour of the rooms. After checking out a few different rooms, we feel comfortable saying that they are, without a doubt, the new must-book rooms in Vegas.

As we've told you before, Hotel32 is located on the very top floor of the Monte Carlo. Before the fire of 2008, the 32nd floor was only open to high rollers, big gamblers and VIPs. But after the fire, the hotel decided to gut the entire floor and create from scratch, all new luxury rooms.

Thankfully, the Monte Carlo just didn't pick some anonymously modern decor and run with it. These rooms look quite pretty and are filled with tons of design details throughout. There are three types--penthouse suites (which come in either 1 bedroom or 2 bedroom configurations with pool tables), loft suites (slightly smaller than the 1 bedroom suites) and the studio suites which, despite their name, looks like regular hotel rooms.

That's a studio room pictured above and which starts at $250 a night.
