Vegas Already Hearts Foursquare

March 11, 2010 at 11:42 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Over at HotelChatter, we're already obsessing over hotels that have begun offering rewards and incentives for guests via the newest little darling of the social media world, Foursquare. (For a little tutorial on Foursquare, go here.

But we've already noticed a huge presence in Las Vegas. Case in point? The Miracle Mile shops have started advertising their Foursquare promotions on their mega video screens. From this Flickr photo from the Foursquare co-founder, it says that Miracle Mile will give any "mayors" on Foursquare, will have their photo and their text shown live on the screen.

Will They Just Close Privé Already And Be Done With It?

March 9, 2010 at 8:02 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Harrah's is probably saying, "If you didn't pay your rent, then get the F*%K out!

Now that Harrah's has acquired Planet Hollywood, things aren't looking so good for the troublesome nightclub, Privé.

The club ran into trouble over the summer, even losing its liquor license for a bit because of shady activity going on inside the club. Now it looks like their rent is way overdue and Harrah's wants them to pay up immediately.

The only problem is Privé's company, The Opium Group, is bankrupt. They can't even pay their fines. The club was fined several hundreds of thousands of dollars by gaming regulators for their improper activities which included dumping too-drunk club-goers back out onto the Planet Hollywood casino floor.

Peepshow's Back Tonight, But The Only Celeb Boobies On Show Will Be Holly Madison's

Where: 3663 Las Vegas Blvd S [map], 89109
March 1, 2010 at 3:12 PM | by juliab | 0 Comments

We have good news and bad news. The good: after its hiatus, Peepshow is back today with the lovely little Holly Madison at its helm. The even better news: Aubrey O'Day is gone. The bad news: there’s no celeb replacing her.

We, of course, were hoping that our beloved Mel B might surprise us all and get her cans out as the Peep Diva one more time, but it’s not to be. The part is going to be played by Cheaza (us neither), who was previously one of the “sexy Peepshow singers.” Cheaza, we’re sure you’re wonderful, but we were really hoping for a famous rack to gawp at. Damn that recession.

A Lovely View from Koi, No Extra Tipping Required

February 18, 2010 at 12:27 AM | by juliana | 0 Comments

This was our view from the Koi sushi restaurant inside Planet Hollywood, one of our favorite sushi restaurants on the Strip. The best part about this view? We had prime viewing of the Bellagio fountains.

Even better, we didn't need to grease anybody with tightly rolled twenties to get this view, on a Saturday night, either. We called Koi at 7pm, asking and receiving a reservation for two people at 8pm. When we arrived, we were politely told that we couldn't carry in any outside drink (we were swigging a mini-bottle of Chardonnay). So we chugged our vino and then the hostess promptly sat us in the intimate back room seating area, which you see on the restaurant website.

Inside The PH Towers By Westgate...Er, Or is it The PH Tower?

Where: 80 E. Harmon [map], 89109
February 10, 2010 at 3:20 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Guess The Hotel revealed!!!

We braved the Super Bowl madness over the weekend and checked into the new PH Towers By Westgate, adjacent to the Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas.

Overall, we were happy with what we got for our money, especially since we read some awful reviews on TravelPost before we got there. And being a timeshare resort we were scared that we would be kidnapped by timeshare salesmen and forced to listen to a timeshare pitch in a windowless room below the casino. (Thankfully, that never happened.)

However, the biggest drawback for this hotel is that it's really attached to the Miracle Mile shops rather than Planet Hollywood. Which means, you have to walk through the mall to get to the PH casino. And then you have to walk back through the mall to get to your room. Do it five times on Super Bowl Sunday and it gets old real quick.

Check-In: We rolled up on Saturday afternoon at 2pm to the PH Towers entrance where valet (it's free!) helped us carry our bags out of the car. NOTE: If you're arriving by taxi, specify that you are going to PH Towers, not Planet Hollywood. Otherwise, you will be dropped off at the Planet Hollywood entrance and will be forced to schelp through the mall to PH Towers.

The check-in line was no less than five minutes and we were on our way to the 37th floor.

Sugar Factory to Open on Friday, The Situation to Arrive on Sunday

February 9, 2010 at 4:54 PM | by juliana | 1 Comment

We recently got a peek into the upcoming Sugar Factory that will be opening in the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood when a construction worker was leaving the spot on Sunday. And while it wasn't totally empty, it definitely wasn't stocked with all the goodies that Sugar Factory is known for, namely its Couture Pops, lollipops with rhinestone stems.

Yet word from Sugar Factory is that the candy shop will indeed open this Friday night with a grand opening celebration on Sunday afternoon, attended by none other than the "Jersey Shore's" very own Situation aka Mike Sorrentino.

Front Row Sports Wasted No Time with Saints Super Bowl Champions Gear

February 8, 2010 at 11:19 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

This is a picture that we snapped at approximately 9pm last night in the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood, a mere two hours after the New Orleans Saints won the Super Bowl. Not that it's a piece of fan gear that we would ever wear but still, hats off to Front Row Sports for a shockingly fast roll-out of Super Bowl championship gear. Also, this jacket is further proof The 90s are Back.

If You're Not Katie Price, You Should Probably Think About Hotwire

Where: 3655 Las Vegas Blvd S [map], 89109

Wonder if they put that message up in honor of Jordan?

We were a bit disturbed this morning when we read that Katie Price and Alex Reid were shacked up in a $10000 a night penthouse down at Planet Hollywood. On a Tuesday night? Were they being fleeced?

Later on we were relieved when the fine Norm Clarke tweeted that their honeymoon suite was a wedding present from PH top dogRobert Earl. We wouldn’t have liked to have think of our Jordan being taken advantage of.

Katie Price and Alex Reid's Wynn Wedding: Where They Done It

Where: 3131 Las Vegas Blvd South [map], 89109

Katie buys the ring. The hat? We blame jet lag

Remember the charming couple we told you to keep an eye out for yesterday morning as they arrived in Vegas? Remember how we said they might be here to get married? Well they’ve only gone and done it, haven’t they?

After sexyman Norm Clarke tweeted this afternoon that the word on the Strip was about the Price’s impending nuptials, we sped our way down to Planet Hollywood, where she and lovah Alex Reid were shacking up.

What The Heck is Jason Alexander Starring In at Planet Hollywood?

February 1, 2010 at 7:55 PM | by juliana | 2 Comments

George Costanza is a character near and dear to our hearts. But it looks like actor Jason Alexander is doing all that he can to move away from his Seinfeld alter-ego. How else to explain this new show that he's currently starring in at Planet Hollywood?

Called Donny Clay, the act is about "the world's fourth-best motivational speaker." Straight from the PH website:

"Donny Clay's" world famous seminars entail hilarious evenings full of comedy, music, self-help and partial nudity all combined to leave you laughing for a truly unforgettable evening. A mix of comedy, theater and some unintentionally life-enhancing thinking, Donny Clay will have you rolling in the aisles and jumping to your feet.

We're trying not to be Negative Nellies here but we're gonna spend our $55 somewhere else instead. Maybe on margs at Cabo Wabo?

Massive Sugar Factory Shop Coming to Planet Hollywood

Where: 3655 Las Vegas Blvd S [map], 89109
January 18, 2010 at 6:45 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

UPDATE: Actually, there IS another Sugar Factory coming to Vegas inside Paris Las Vegas. That 15,000sq.ft. candy shop will open in the Fall.

In this item about feuding candy shop owners from the New York Post, we learned that a massive Sugar Factory is set to hit Paris Las Vegas later this year. Except the store location is a bit off.

It will in fact open in the Miracle Mile shops of Planet Hollywood and soon too. The Sugar Factory website says February 2010.

There's already a Sugar Factory inside The Mirage and it's not even a year old. But apparently, there's just not enough candy to satiate the Strip. And this new outpost is going to be huge--about 15,000-sq. ft. Apparently, it's made Dylan Lauren of Dylan's Candy bar so green with envy that she's considering opening up her own space in CityCenter.

With the popularity of candy shops and cupcakes stores on the Strip these days, are dentist offices going to be the next hot thing?

Will Planet Hollywood Drop Its Resort Fee Now That It Belongs To Harrahs?

January 15, 2010 at 8:00 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

In not so shocking but yeah, kind of shocking news because we thought Robert Earl still had this on lock, it was announced that Harrah's will take over operations at Planet Hollywood at midnight on Saturday night. The LVRJ writes:

Harrah’s will operate the 2,496-room hotel tower as well and take over some of the property’s food and beverage operations. The management agreement does not include the newly opened 1,201-room PH Tower, which is owned by Westgate.

The Planet Hollywood’s rooms will not be offered in Harrah’s customer reward system, Total Rewards, at this time.

So it looks like the $4.99 per night resort fee is going to stick. But as Harrah's gradually gobbles up PH in whole, they may do away with that seeing how vocal they have been about not having resort fees at their other properties. So other than that, it looks like business as usual at PH.
