Freaky Friday: The Musical Fusion Edition
Fridays may not have been as Freaky as of late, but give magic props to Vegas performers for playing catchup. Today's Freaky Friday unwraps lots of new tricks around Las Vegas where the common theme is magic... and other "stuff".

Tommy Wind at the Clarion
One of Vegas' youngest headliner at 21, Tommy Wind has created Impact -- an explosion of magic and music -- along with martial arts and dancing that presumably didn't fit in the banner. He is one of the youngest magicians to have earned the title of Master Illusionist. At the show, he'll play some guitar, float a guitar, bang the drums, and make those drums disappear.
Tommy once made one JetBlue flight attendant's flight at 36,000 feet so magical, she still has the pictures. He promises to bring his biggest, most original illusions (and music?) to the ground in Vegas.

Still No Verdict On Tom Lowe's 'Vegas! The Show' Status, But At Least He's On iTunes
Thx for the offer, don’t mind if we do
It’s been a couple of months now that we’ve been mourning the mysterious exit from Vegas! The Show of VC’s favored Strip performer, Mr Tom Lowe. Will he return? We’ve been investigating every single alley open and half-open for a definitive answer, but have yet to receive one that doesn't contradict another. But we're taking that as a good sign and are crossing our fingers that he has not left the Saxe Theater forever.
In the meantime, as we were idly stalking his website the other day, we couldn’t help but notice that he seems to have moved on from VTS with a new single on YouTube. A single! Eee! Talk about reliving the heady days of 1996 when he was a proper bona fide boyband popstar.

Yes, Virginia There Is A Tom Lowe (But Where Is He?)
Who needs a white beard and red suit when this is the line for your lap?
While we had already given the VegasChatter stamp of approval to Vegas! The Show, stalked tracked down its star Tom Lowe for his take on the city, and even made sure the show appealed to the boys, this dude of VC finally sat in on the show himself for the first time over the weekend.
The good news is that this piece of VC also really liked the show. To us, however, the star of the show appeared to be Eric Jordan Young for whom the VTS lights shone brightly on from the opening monologue inside the Neon Boneyard through his Sammy Davis, Jr. tribute. Actually let’s call him "the lead" since the stars of the show are still far and away tap dancing twins Sean and John Scott.

Cheap Trick Is Gone: Where to Get Your Rocks On (And Off)
As of last Friday, Cheap Trick has sung out their last Sgt Pepper tune at Paris (for now at least). A show that pumped the crowd into a roar each fun filled lyrical night. With that curtain closed we sought out five other shows that provide an infectious atmosphere sure to get your fist heart pumping:
Santa Fe & the Fat City Horns
Where: Lounge at The Palms
When: Every Monday 10:30-Midnight. $7 tickets (VIP $15).
What: Santa Fe is a 30 year Vegas institution (and perhaps too much of a well kept secret) made up of a six-piece horn section, six-piece rhythm section and five lead singers that bring a mix of Funk, Groove, Salsa, Jazz, and originals. Guest performers drop in frequently, most recently Kenny Loggins, and 2010 America's Got Talent winner Michael Grimm sang on their "Let The Healing Begin" CD. Follow their blog for all sightings and news.

Tap Dancing Twins, Vegas Ghosts and A British Elvis: Why We're Fans Of Vegas! The Show
Tom Jones/Lowe and some of his harem
We love our readers here at VegasChatter. We love you for reading, for commenting and for suggesting what we should write about. And today we’re loving @metaljohnradio who tweeted us yesterday saying how much he loved Vegas! The Show. Not just because he shares our taste, but also because it reminded us that we never got around to processing our thoughts once we saw the show on one of its many “opening nights” last month.
Thankfully, it had changed a lot since we sat in on the rehearsal in June. It didn’t take three hours, for a start – it’s down to 90 minutes. And some of the dodgy costume choices for the dancers had gone. They now look pretty-sexy, rather than cheap-sexy.

From Boy Band Stardom to Vegas! The Show: The D-Low(e) on Sin City's Newest Star
Tom Lowe. Only In Vegas.
Here at VegasChatter we are very excited about Thursday. Because it’s nearly the weekend? No. Because ladies drink free at Rock House? Not even. Thursday, ladies and gents, is the official opening of Vegas! The Show. And that means the official unveiling of our new favorite Vegas performer, Tom Lowe.
We first noticed the Lowe when we attended the dress rehearsal for VTS and couldn’t help noticing that as well as being English, he was rather well endowed with the whole singing skillz + charisma package. The proof: six weeks on, we still remember which Vegas characters he took off (Elvis, Frank, Elton and Tom Jones FYI) but the others are something of a blur. When even our friend who hearts Buble but (inexplicably) doesn’t dig Matt Goss (yes we’re still friends – we are nothing if not indulgent) gave him her seal of approval, we knew the Saxe Theater is in possession of something special.
So we decided to stalk investigate him. And having finally got some time with him on Saturday, as well as noting that he possesses the Best Laugh in Vegas and curiously un-English nice white teeth (more on those another time), we realized that with a back story like this, he could only ever end up in Vegas.
It’s a long story, which we shall separate into four acts. If you have ADD, you can follow his life through the marvel that is YouTube.

Vegas! The Show May Not Be There Yet, But At Least It's Self Aware
Here’s an idea. Why not make Tom Lowe sing all the songs? Reva Rice can join in too - that would fix it
You may remember our surprise a couple of weeks back at the fact that we were pleasantly surprised by Vegas! The Show when we snuck into its dress rehearsal.
We thought there was definitely some talent on display, but we also thought they had a lot to smooth out before opening night – the next night. Las Vegas Weekly, who sat in with us, waxed lyrical on the, um, “organized chaos” here.
We assumed that with the show having to go on etc etc, they’d have smoothed it all out for the opening performance. Indeed, Johnny Kats was at opening night and although he noticed the crew still painting the set, didn’t mention any big problems. So we assumed that David Saxe et al had broken all the legs that needed to be broken and got together a fine show.
Alas, not so, according to a friend of VegasChatter who saw the show in its week. Apparently it’s still running overtime – 90 minutes instead of 75 – and it’s still patchy. So patchy, in fact, that David Saxe gave every single member of the audience a glass of champagne and a free ticket to come back and see the show at a later date, when it’s "ready". Apparently, he’d been doing that since opening night - although we think that may have been an offer limited to the first week only.

Against All the Odds, We Have High Hopes For Vegas! The Show
The set for the opening scene, random showgirl, and random man on set (it was a rehearsal, remember)
We’ve been fairly vocal about our excitement over Vegas! The Show – the new offering at the equally new Saxe Theater. Seeing as it was promising showgirls, a full orchestra and as much Vegas shizzle as you could shake said shizzle at, we were hoping that it would either be very, very good or so bad it was actually brilliant. In fact, if we’re being honest, we were hoping for the latter. They haven’t had long to rehearse, after all, it’s a small theater, plus the fact that we’d always go for Showgirls over Leaving Las Vegas should tell you all you need to know about our “ironic”* taste in films (*actually, scratch the irony excuse - let's be shameless in our love of cheese).
Anyways, as you’ll know, it opened Saturday. It’s now in a soft opening until press night at the end of July, but we snuck into the dress rehearsal on Friday night to see what was in store.

Vegas! The Show Opens Tomorrow, But Make Sure You Book the Right One
Confusion: not a good state of mind, right? After a few bevvies, the Strip can be a confusing place, and now it might be getting even more confusing with the advent of Vegas! The Show, which finally opens tomorrow.
We’ve been getting all excited about the show for a while now (showgirls! Glitter! Paul Verhoeven fantasies!) although slightly worried about the size of the Saxe Theater for such shenanigans and the fact that its opening date has already been postponed. Twice.
So, as we were perusing Houseseats last night to decide which shows we would see this weekend, when we saw “Vegas the Show” we got all excited. Tickets to the opening night! Break out the feather boa!
But when we clicked to get our tickets, it flagged up this little warning:
PLEASE NOTE: there are 2 shows here in Las Vegas bearing the name “Vegas The Show”. Please be sure to read the information regarding the venue of this show.”
Oh. Sure enough, it was the one on Fremont Street. Bugger.
Anyway, the moral of the tale is: check which one you’re booking for, because we don’t think the Fremont Street one has as many feathers ‘n’ that. Plus the storyline runs into the future up to 2050, and that sounds a bit crap.

Vegas! The Show Looks Like It Has Potential
UPDATE: Video alert! Here's David Saxe and a man called Tiger talking about the show on 8 News Now this morning. Exciting! And they confirmed that it does indeed start June 18.
Last time we were over at the new Saxe Theater in Miracle Mile, we were assured that the new show – Vegas! The Show – would be opening this weekend. Now we’re not so sure, as Vegas.com is only selling tickets from 18 June.
Either way, from the looks of the sparkly logo (rhinestones, baby!) and the new ad we spied on this taxi, we think we might like it. It looks camp, it looks fabulous, we just hope it’s done with enough of a sense of humor to carry it off, what with the rat pack and the Elvis impersonators and the showgirls.

If You're Looking For The V Theater Shows, They're Over In The Saxe
Slight moment of confusion as we walked past the Theater Formerly Known As The Steve Wyrick Theater in Miracle Mile at the weekend and saw the box office open and selling tickets. We know it’s called the Saxe Theater now, and Vegas The Show is in rehearsals, but it’s not opening till next weekend. Had Wyrick popped up again to make some more money disappear?
Er, no. They’re just taking advantage of the empty space to do a quick refurb of the V Theater. So the V shows have moved into the Saxe until the Saxe opens next Saturday. Thank god – we’re not sure we could have lived a week without American Storm.
