Matt Goss Merchandise Is Taking Over Caesars
T-4 days to the glorious Goss debut, and as well as the tarting up of Cleo’s Barge that’s finally got underway, the other big news is that the merch has arrived.
When we asked before at the shop nearest the Barge when the Goss guff would be arriving, we were they wouldn’t be stocking it till 12 March itself. But on Thursday, we found ourselves walking by a mannequin with “dirty” emblazoned across its bosom, and we had an inkling that if we looked round the back we would see “virgin”.
And we were right. There’s a whole load of t-shirts – taking up two whole segments of the shop (like half the front wall). In fact there’s pretty much one for every day of the week.

Sniffing Tuscan Leather and Tobacco Vanilla at Tom Ford
There's an interesting anecdote about fashion designer/film director Tom Ford that when he set out to create his first men's cologne, Black Orchid, he wanted it to smell like a man's crotch.
Well, now that Tom Ford has opened his first West Coast location in The Crystals you can do all the crotch-sniffing that you want. Sorry, we couldn't resist.
Yet dirty jokes aside, the men's clothing store has a cool jewel-box sort of set-up in the back room where all of Tom Ford's scents are on display.

Ditch Forever 21 for Bettie Page at Fashion Show Mall
Have a desire not to dress slutty during your weekend trip to Vegas? First, we must say we applaud that decision. After recently spending a Saturday night in Encore watching the scantily clad trainwrecks escape from XS at three in the morning, barefoot, with Steve Madden knock-offs in hand, pulling at their too-short Forever 21 dresses and leaning on a plant to hold their balance, we're decidedly over the cheap and slutty look.
Secondly, we're here to tell you where you can go to find some stylish but still sexy retro looks--Bettie Page in the Fashion Show Mall.

Party At Lush On Saturday, Get Lush Stuff For Free
The girls of Lush*
We were walking through the Shoppes at Mandalay Place the other day scoping out the new Hussong’s Cantina when we smelt a familiar smell. It smelt a lot like Lush, one of our all-time favourite shops back home in London. Could it be?
Why, yes it could. Lush makes ultra-fresh toiletries with no preservatives, no animal testing and lots of natural ingredients. It’s also renowned for stinking out the areas around its shops with its fruity soaps/massage bars/bath bombs (see the pic below).

Walgreens, Not Fry's, Is The Better Store for Travel Gadgets on The Strip
The front desk at Vdara in Las Vegas.
Ahh...Concierges. In French, this means "know it all." Just kidding. The word actually evolved from the French Comte Des Cierges, The Keeper of the Candles. (Here's the Wikipedia explanation.)
These days there are all sorts of specialized concierges from shopping concierges to teen concierges to pet concierges and yes, Christmas concierges..But what about a good, old-fashioned general concierge? With so much information out there at the touch of our iPhones and Blackberries, we wondered how the concierges were upping their game.
Staying at Vdara Hotel and Spa the other night, we realized that we had forgotten our memory card reader. We knew where we could get one but we thought it would be interesting to see what the Vdara concierge service would recommend.
After all, this is their town. Maybe they knew of a faster way. Or maybe, just maybe, they had one on loan. Isn't CityCenter supposed to be all about technology anyways?

While Folks Are Perusing The Luxury Goods at The Crystals...
...we found this charming aisle of suitcases and souvenir t-shirts in the CVS located next to The Crystals and the Mandarin Oriental. Hmmm...not quite the luxury neighbor CityCenter probably would have liked to have.
Still, it's convenient for folks to have a drugstore right here. There's also a Walgreen's across the street which has way better offerings. But you have to walk up to the next light to cross the street as jaywalking will either get you in trouble with the police or run-over.
Oh and don't forget about CVS's selection of travel pillows!

Taste of Wynn Has Closed To Make Way For Garth Swag

Thanks to the tweets of Two Way Hard Three's Hunter, we were tipped off that Taste of Wynn inside Encore has closed.
How could this be? The retail shop devoted to all things culinary at Wynn and Encore had just opened on October 1. Well, the official word is that the shop closed to make room for an entertainment store that will feature merchandise from Le Rêve, the property's nightclubs and the forthcoming Garth Brooks concerts. A rep for Encore tells us:
Given the proximity to the theaters, this made the most sense. The Taste of Wynn store was a great success and we intend to relocate the concept to Wynn LVNV in the near future. We will continue to explore other opportunities for Taste of Wynn at both properties.
In the meantime, you can buy your Wynn/Encore-branded goodies at not only Wynn LVNV, but at the XS store (while it's still around) and either one of the Wynn/Encore sundries stores. But may we suggest skipping the purchase of an Encore t-shirt and taking a chance on the tables instead? This is Vegas. You're supposed to "risk it all!" not come home with a hotel-branded t-shirt.

Shopping in Vegas Could Get You Two Free Show Tickets

Not everyone comes to Vegas to gamble all day and party all night and for the folks who like to Vegas "Granny-Style" by shopping, dining and taking in a shows will like this deal.
For every $500 you spend shopping at participating Vegas shopping malls (pretty much all the ones you would hit up like Shops at Palazzo, The Forum Shops, Miracle Mile and even the upcoming Crystals at CityCenter), you can receive two show tickets to either Blue Man Group, PeepShow, Human Nature, The Phantom of The Opera, Penn & Teller, George Wallace and Donny & Marie.
The tickets are universal show tickets and to obtain them, you must take your receipts detailing your $500+ worth of purchases to a staff member at the malls' Concierge/Information Center. The concierge center will then give you a toll-free number to call for your tickets. Same-day show tickets must be booked by 4pm that day.
You can read all the pertinent info here but the biggest restriction only seems to be that it's not valid for Nevada residents.

It Ain't Bleeker and Christopher Street But The Twain Center Has Its Own Charm

Travel + Leisure readers may not think Las Vegas has any noteworthy neighborhoods worth checking out and to an extent, they're right--if you're looking for quaint West Village or Silverlake types of 'hoods. But we've got our own special charm that only be found in Strip Malls. Oh yes, we said strip malls.
However, we don’t mean the dull, featureless kind that are in overabundance with Linen N’ Things and Pier One Imports. Far from it. Instead, we're referring to some of the keen, under the radar strip malls, that, despite their lumbering architecture and cluttered lettering, are a neat cultural hodgepodge that have yielded some captivating results in fine food, and kinky clothing. We call these--Lo-Fi Strip Malls.

Taste of Wynn Sells Hotel Chefs' Favorite Food and Gadgets
If you came to Vegas to dine at the restaurants of Wynn chefs such as Daniel Boulud or Alessandro Strata, you'll also want to make a stop at the hotel's Taste of Wynn. The new boutique is stocked with gourmet ingredients, cooking tools and other food-related items that were hand-picked by the top toques in the Wynn and Encore.
When you enter the shop, which opened Oct. 1, you'll see photos of each chef accompanied by their names on the top of each shelf, which holds that particular chef's choice items. Under the mug of SW Steakhouse chef David Walzog, you'll find Shun steak knives. "They are without question the sharpest, sexiest-designed steak knives I've seen," Walzog says. If you go to Stratta's cases, you can check out the gnocchi paddle the two-star Michelin Award-winning chef uses at his Alex and Stratta restaurants.
Among James Beard Award-winning chef Paul Bartolotta's cooking items is Botegga Del Vino glassware that he uses at home and for reserve wine pours at his restaurant, Bartolotta Ristorante di Mare. The Lario slicer that Sinatra chef Theo Schoenegger uses to get perfect hand-cranked slices of prosciutto, salami and other charcuterie is also featured.

Find an Alternate Reality at One of Sin City's Best Comic Book Stores

It may sound surprising but we often get asked by Vegas visitors where they can get a comic book fix during their stay. But in truth, it’s not thatsurprising, given the fanship of comic book devotees here in Las Vegas. So without further delay, we answer this question with a “Hell yeah we have a comic bookstore that is accessible to visitors!”--The Alternate Reality Comics.
Located in the University district and just a 10 minute cab ride from McCarran Airport, owner Ralph Mathieu has done a highly consistent job over the last 16 years to provide a well-stocked inventory for his customers: popular DC and Marvel titles, Manga, adult and underground comics are just some of the goodies available.
The customer service is terrific, if the store doesn’t have what you’re looking for, Ralph will do all that he can to help you track it down.
