Wynn Folds on Foxborough

May 8, 2012 at 5:58 PM | by | Comment (1)

Check out the lobby for a hotel you'll never check into now.

It appears that even everyman sweaters couldn't help Steve Wynn win over the folks of Massachusetts.

Earlier today, Wynn folded his high-stakes plan to build Wynn, The Lodge in the town of Foxborough. The Boston Herald reports that the suspension comes the day after the election of two anti-casino candidates:

We Don't Have To Fear And Loathe Wynn's Website, Anymore

March 15, 2012 at 7:29 PM | by | Comments (3)

We can all relax, now.

Wynn Las Vegas is finally keeping it classy again after leaving us scared and confused.

The resort's website is pretty again, if not completely serviceable. But, we don't care because at least it's not the worst thing we've seen this year HTML for beginners, anymore. Nor, are we, umm, treated to a creepy video of Steve Wynn telling us how cool this thing called the Internet is welcoming us to the site.

This crap is still up, though, until (we presume) Foxborough sees the Wynn-ing side of a heated controversy.

Steve Wynn Pulls Out All The Sweaters In His Pitch For Foxboro

March 5, 2012 at 1:29 PM | by | Comments (0)

Gaming in Massachusetts has been a topic of debate for years with a bill allowing casinos finally signed into law late last year. Several sites have been proposed throughout the Bay State with Caesars, MGM and Steve Wynn all, of course, interested in getting into the game. Wynn in particular has been chumming with bud Bob Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots, to propose turning the area around Gillette Stadium into the entertainment capital of Massachusetts.

Wynn's Foxboro dreams have been met by a town strongly divided over the economic benefits of new jobs and increased tax revenue against the community impact of crime and addiction rates. The Wynn campaign machine went into full gear last week, mailing renderings of his proposed resort along with a personal video from SW himself hoping to sway some nay votes. Those with residences outside of Foxboro can get a peek at the proposed resort at WynnFoxboro.com.

Wynn's New Website Has Us Confused and Scared

February 2, 2012 at 4:22 PM | by | Comments (10)

We've always had gripes about the Wynn Las Vegas website but we never imagined that it could get worse.

While the old website was difficult to navigate (we could never get the scrolling menu options to stop at the right time) and Steve's voiceover quite jarring, the new website is now low-tech and scarier all at once. But that's probably because Steve felt the need to appear on-camera this time.

Typing in WynnLasVegas.com, you'll end up at a landing page where Steve invites you to turn on the sound because it's more fun.

Okaaaaay. Once you do that, you're taken to the home page where the menu options are listed clearly and largely on the left-hand side. They kind of remind us of the telephones with the extra large buttons for the the elderly. But at the same time, we do like how easy it is to switch from one option to the next and wherever you go, there is always a box directing you back to the home page.

Within each section, you can find even more information about what's on the property from the room types to the fine dining restaurants, pools, store directory and nightclub information. Each section, however, is narrated by Steve so just be prepared for that.

Turning Back the Clock: Desert Inn

January 11, 2012 at 12:34 PM | by | Comments (6)

We love Las Vegas and part of that is loving Las Vegas’ history. So while we enjoy telling you what we love about Vegas and keeping you up-to-date on what's going on, we would like to take some time to look back at Vegas past. Today, we continue a monthly series on shuttered (but not forgotten) Las Vegas hotels and casinos. We hope you enjoy the stroll down memory lane.

The Desert Inn was the brainchild of Wilbur Clark in the 1950s. He was a partial owner of El Rancho Vegas and sold his interest in the resort to build his own. He bought the original 16 acres that the resort stood on in 1946 for a price of $75,000. He began construction immediately but quickly ran out of money. As banks weren’t inclined to loan money to casinos during that time period, the only loan he could get was from the Teamsters Pension Fund, with the assistance of the Cleveland Mob’s Moe Dalitz.

Usually, we bring you the best drunk tweet of the weekend here, but seeing as how the craziness of The Strip was upped a douchefold by the holiday weekend, we just couldn't stop at one.

From passed out peeps to Wynning tweets (see above and directly below), we wrap up 72 hours of debauchery as only found on Twitter:

Wonder if it's like staring directly into the sun?

Wynn Weds, Sheen Stays Sober and Flava Flav is Foiled

May 2, 2011 at 8:04 PM | by | Comments (0)

You could say it was a Wynning weekend in Las Vegas since Steve Wynn officially got hitched to his girlfriend, Andrea Hissom while the Chateau nightclub at Paris Las Vegas finally delivered on a celebrity--Charlie Sheen.

But to us, this Vegas weekend could've been better.

For starters, Wynn's wedding was entirely eclipsed by OMG RoyalWedding OMG and YES Osama Bin Laden is Dead YES. Then Dirty Harry Clint Eastwood did a photobomb in the official wedding shot.

Meanwhile, Charlie Sheen was the guest of honor at a nightclub. While he stayed out late--reports put him and a goddess at the American Brasserie noshing until 7am--he didn't engage in any of the sort of reckless behavior that started his bender back in January. Boo. The only person who's winning here is the urine sample Charlie Sheen had to give today.

The Other Royal Wedding That's Happening on Friday

April 27, 2011 at 3:59 PM | by | Comments (0)

Grandmas and cat ladies are nearly about to burst with excitement over the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton on Friday but here in Vegas, lecherous men and working girls are getting excited over another Royal Wedding taking place on Friday--that of Steve Wynn and his blow up doll British love, Andrea Hissom.

The wedding will take place at The Wynn (of course) but the duo decided to pre-empt their classy nuptials with an Elvis wedding at the Cupid's Wedding Chapel. Steve-O donned a full-on white bedazzled Elvis suit, complete with wig, sideburns and sunglasses while Andrea borrowed an outfit from Barbie that involved a bikini top, a blonde wig and thigh-high pleather, lace-up platform boots.

The ceremony of course wasn't legal and was pretty much a photo stunt as evidenced by the cheesy Elvis poses Steve struck when it was over (directed by choreographer Kenny Ortega.) But they did get TMZ to document it all!

Wanna Buy A Baseball Team?

Where: 850 Las Vegas Blvd. North [map], 89101
January 27, 2011 at 11:52 AM | by | Comments (0)

If the uniform fits...

Anyone out there interested in buying a baseball team?

Not a major league team, but the next best thing is available at the AAA level in Las Vegas. Stevens Baseball Group is selling the Las Vegas 51s after only three years and driving out the Dodgers obtaining an affiliation with the Blue Jays.

The franchise and stadium turn 29 this year and the aging facilities were the largest reason the Dodgers left a couple years back for a brand, spanking new park in AZ. So GM Don Logan has been promoted to executive director in order to focus on new stadium efforts.

With UNLV looking to move their football stadium closer to campus, is there room to partner with the 51s on a multi-sport venue? Being closer to the Strip could certainly help attendance.

Wynn Hikes Ticket Price for Garth Brooks to a Staggering $225 a Person

Where: 3131 Las Vegas Boulevard South [map], 89109
November 9, 2010 at 3:38 PM | by | Comments (5)

Would you pay $225 for this seat? To be fair, he does take requests.

Even if you aren't a country music fan, we bet a teeny part of you probably regretted not getting tickets to see Garth Brooks at The Encore last year after hearing all the gushing reviews.

Which is why we thought you'd get another chance when we saw a new set of Brooks concert dates from Wynn in our mailbox today from December 3 to February 27. But the excitement quickly dissipated after seeing ticket prices are now a staggering $225. Per person. And, that's without the service charge and tax. (Tickets were previously $143.) Oh and we don't think there are any changes to that already-harsh ticket holder policy either.

The Wynn folks must have already anticipated the price hike backlash, because they included a statement from Mr. Wynn himself.

Joe Francis Will Never Set Foot in Wynn or Encore Ever Again

April 12, 2010 at 7:37 PM | by | Comments (0)

Considering that he owes a $2 million gambling debt to Wynn Las Vegas, it was already evident that Girls Gone Wild smut peddler Joe Francis would not be allowed back into the luxe casino property. But now that he's gone off the rails and accused Steve Wynn of threatening to "hit him in the head with a shovel and bury him in the desert," Francis will probably no longer be allowed near the North end of The Strip ever again.

For the record, Steve Wynn has told TMZ that he's never met Joe Francis is in his life. Sorry, Joe. We're strictly Team Wynn for the Wynn on this one.

Here's what else is going on in Vegas:
· Hugh Hefner turns a really, really, really old age and celebrates at The Palms. [Huffington Post]
· Android Barbie nearly melts at opening day of Liquid at Aria. [NY Daily News]
· The Super Bowl was probably good for gambling business in February. [Daily Finance]
· Paris Hilton and Reggie Bush play with sparklers at Tao while Kim Kardashian is at home broken-hearted, ripping out her fake eyelashes. [Daily Mail]
· The Cosmopolitan Las Vegas is opening in December and already, they are hiring for a few positions. [CareerBuilder]

This is Steve Wynn's Favorite Drink

Where: 3131 Las Vegas Blvd S [map], 89109
January 28, 2010 at 6:25 PM | by | Comments (2)

The next time you find yourself in the Eastside Lounge, the sexy lounge just off the casino, that overlooks the pool area at Encore Las Vegas, order yourself one of the Berry Infusion drinks. Why? Well, apparently it is Steve Wynn's favorite drink (so said our cocktail waitress.)

As you can imagine, the Berry Infusion is an incredibly fruity drink. It consists of Skyy Vodka and peach schnapps infused with fresh pineapple, blueberries and strawberries and costs $14. But hey, if it is good enough for Steve Wynn, it is good enough for you. 'Nuff said.
